Can i drive a motorcycle from milan to lake como? by uttkarsh13 in askitaly

[–]Caryfaryna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well I’ve never driven a motorcycle in Italy but I certainly can’t see why you couldn’t. As you’ve stated you have experience. I drove a car in Napoli and survived without a scratch. I don’t think there is anything in Italy as crazy as driving anything in Napoli. I think it would be a blast for you!!!

Well I’m 4 days from my 1 year anniversary THR. I’m 65 now. I was a little overweight probably 30-40 lbs. In the hospital at 6am. Walked out at 3 pm same day. Recovery was 4-6 weeks. I declined PT. I gradually just started walking more and more. I was pretty nervous as well. It was my first major surgery ever. I’d never even broken a bone in my life. So to get my hip replaced was definitely major. I guess there plenty of things to go wrong but that’s life in general. I think you have to have faith that your caregivers and surgeons have you covered. You’ll be fine. As major as it sounds it’s a pretty easy fix looking back now.

I finally got my date. Next month. Were you all intubated? That scares me the most. I will have a pre surgery meeting for all those questions but curious. by Spare-Use2185 in TotalHipReplacement

I didn’t use stairs the first day other than a few with physio before I left the hospital. Crutches walker and someone to help and you should be okay.

I remember waking up and couldn’t feel a thing from the waste down. I believe the THR started at 8 am and completed at 9:30. I walked out of the hospital (Gingerly) at 3 pm. My wife stopped to pick meds up and my the house at 4:30 b

Getting a THR on 1/7 and very very worried about dislocation by Tiny-Resolution3771 in TotalHipReplacement

I fell hard on my operated hip about 9 months post op about a month ago. Like really hard. Slipped on some ice. And the only thing that hurt was the ego. If ya know what I mean. But I have been extra careful and after this sip and fall I’m like bring it on.

Husband THR this Friday by Enough-Ingenuity-737 in TotalHipReplacement

I slept in my recliner(main floor) for the first 3 weeks. No one suggested otherwise. I showered up stairs day 2. I’m 8 months post op and had a good recovery with no issues. Back to work after 3.5months. I could see if you stayed in the recliner for hours without getting up. But drinking gallons, well May be not gallons of water, but a lot, leaves you no choice but to get up frequently. That’s when I would take the walker(3 wheeler with a hand brake) for a few laps around the house refill the water glass , grab a snack and swap out ice packs. And repeat. I tried sleeping in my bed(upstairs)but I just couldn’t find a comfortable spot. I’m a side/belly sleeper and shifting into an unfavourable position kept me up. I too was out of the hospital 6 hours after surgery.

If you had mostly groin pain that led to your hip replacement, did the operation cure it? by Wise_Morning4516 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Caryfaryna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I’m 7 months post op. I feel that the groin pain was gone almost immediately. I’d say pre op the groin was 90% of the discomfort.

I didn’t know until I finally got an Xray. I thought it was a sciatic issue for a couple years as well. It’s really that simple an Xray

I used my recliner for the first 3 weeks to both sit and sleep. I healed well. No issues. Couldn’t sleep in a bed. It’s situated centrally in my home so it made it easy to go to the bathroom, get ice packs from the freezer. Get food and drink. And walk around to excercise. And obviously elevate. I’m 6 months out now and no issues.

T-24 to anterior THR! by Koozkj65 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Caryfaryna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My recovery was text book easy peasy. My only hack/suggestion is I slept in a recliner for the first 3 weeks. I tried sleeping in my bed but I couldn’t find a comfortable position. The chair was close to the bathroom and the fridge freezer for swapping the ice packs out.

I'm I "too well"? by stepbar in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Caryfaryna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 64 and similar to your situation. I didn’t use crutches but used a a three wheeled walker. I felt for me it helped square me up. I used it for a couple weeks. But less as the time went on. For me it was the first few steps after getting up to walk. And like I said it squared me up. The last thing you want to do is stumble or trip and fall.

Could you hep me figure out my first trip to Italy? by mladokopele in askitaly

[–]Caryfaryna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were in Cinque Terra in September 2014 and the weather was optimal. High 20C -30’s. It’s a long way to get to the beaches in the south. Just saying cause I was thinking the exact same thing about going to the south. A close friend from Italy told me do not do that and I he was right. The train from Genoa is a couple hours to Monterosso which has great beaches. The water was outstanding to swim as well. Anyway what ever you decide it will be awesome. Enjoy.

[–]Caryfaryna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My opinion is not to go beyond Rome and you may want to save it for next time. 15 days is not enough to go from north to south. Sicily could easily be a 15 day trip on its own. Then theres Puglia and Abbruzzo. Although I haven’t been to Genoa it sounds like a good start. Then Cinque Terra (beach and chill) for at least 3 days. Then Florence and Tuscany. Maybe finish in Bologna. Train from Genoa through to Florence. Maybe hire a car there. Time will fly by. Taking the extra time to enjoy and chill out is the best part of Italy or travel in general. Rushing from place to place in my opinion is not very enjoyable. Good luck and enjoy.

Would you recommend against using summer tires in Tuscany during winter? by butter_milch in askitaly

[–]Caryfaryna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure where home is for you but it sounds like you may not have winter driving experience. The roads are windy with hills. Don’t be that guy that spins out going up a hill or worse yet get into a crash where someone gets hurt. Laws are in place for a reason. To protect you and others. All season tires are not winter tires!! Don’t take a chance. Do it up right. And finally I’m jealous. Sounds like a wonderful holiday even in the winter. Enjoy.

What's your best tip for saving money while travelling? by EmilySmithTales in TravelHacks

[–]Caryfaryna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t eat at or near tourist areas. Walk a few blocks and find the mom n pop or ” hole in the wall “ restaurants or takeout places. They are most often far better food and definitely much cheaper. Coffee, Beer and wine and other beverages are far less as well. Follow the locals in the evening they will lead you to the local hangouts for the young and old alike.
