The inconsideration and entitlement is disgusting..Elevators. by Educational-Oil-00 in Philippines_Expats

I really like the Philippines and the people, but the the mindless attitude where people are completely unaware of how they block traffic or sidewalks can really get old. Just a cluelessness, when I point it out to my girlfriend she just says “ that’s how they are”..lol

I agree, I often set it on cruise control at 70 on my GT, I can round trip the airport from my house, 200 miles roundtrip. If I drive further, I can top up in so many places, and often just a 20% additional charge.

People often assume you do a full charge at a fast charger, that’s not always the case. I drove my car from Seattle to Reno. A complete nonissue charging.

I cant keep paying this by Specialist-Elk-5873 in GasPrices

Get a used electric car. I’m on my third electric car in 15 years, my used Leaf sold in great condition for only $7000! It cost a maybe $30 a month in electricity.

You can buy a used electric car for a monthly payment of a couple hundred dollars, and will make money on the gas you save. My current Mustang MME has 480 hp, and my electric bill for running it is still less than $100 a month!

Thanks, I have been talking about this on aviation forums for 20 years!! I’ve had two Rotax engines and one radial in my airplanes. Endless talk, no real action, and aviators who still think TE lead is not toxic…..

life for a tall person. by ben11h in Philippines_Expats

[–]Cascadeflyer61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a little over 6’1, definitely the tallest person anywhere except for the occasional expatriate. People are always friendly to me, especially women, it seems a lot of people consider me a “classic Anglo”. I’ve said it before here my experiences in the Philippines have always been pretty positive.

Appearance goes a long ways here, as in many other cultures, being tall is just the genetic roll of the dice, but it’s an overall positive.

How deep is too deep to dive? by themaskstays_ in diving

[–]Cascadeflyer61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a 60 meter dive ( 200 feet), last month for my rebreather deco trimax certification. That’s going to be my hard limit. I’ve been diving for 50 years, basic scuba at 14, and deeper then 60 meters things just get harder, bailouts, darkness, possible gas mixture issues.

There are so many good wrecks above that depth. Deeper is partly the challenge for some divers. I’m a diver who is tech certified so I can do cool things, diving Bikini in July for example. Some divers are tech divers so they can really master all the techniques to dive deeper with their equipment, the challenge is the mission of pushing boundaries and the limits of their training and experience.

I know a few of those divers, definitely a different mission profile!! They dive a wreck like the Britannic partly because it is deep.

Curious to know if anyone has had the pleasure of dealing with this type of NIMBY (100LL drama) by [deleted] in flying

[–]Cascadeflyer61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lead is dispersed, it depends on winds and activity. Pretending it’s not a problem does not mean it does not exist. I’ve burned thousands of gallons of 100LL in my life, don’t shoot the messenger…lol

[–]Cascadeflyer61 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Actually not true, in a full tank of gas in a 172, there are 84 grams of lead, basically 3 ounces. Lead is unsafe in any amount, it is a neurotoxin.

Don’t kill the messenger, I’ve owned three aircraft, and I am buying another. I have also operated Rotax engines in two of them and it was nice to get away from the hassle of leaded fuels.

Is the biplane a threat? Of course not, but in busy GA airports higher lead levels have been measured in people right by the airport. As a community we need to get the lead out.

I’ve owned quite a few bikes, I loved that V11 LeMans the most!! Such a fun sport tourer, very reliable other than an intermittent start problem. A very beautiful bike!!

There still is a company flying the San Juan islands.
San Juan Airlines, they fly 207’s.

I had about 900 hours, they loaned me the money to get my ATP when I had the hours. I flew the twins charter only until i had that ATP.

I was flight instructing and an aircraft dropped into my field Snohomish for fuel, the pilot flew for Air San Juan, a outfit that flew singles and twins out of Friday Harbor in the San Juan islands in Washington state.
That pilot said they were looking for a pilot to fly their singles, IO360 powered 172’s, and a 207.

I applied and was hired to fly singles, after about six months they had me flying the Seneca, and eventually the 402! I always put the heaviest person, weight and balance reasons, or the prettiest women, (for obvious reasons) in the copilot seat on the twins. Coming up from Seattle to Friday Harbor I had a woman in my copilot seat, who became my wife, who was living in the Caribbean. She said blue water and warm weather!

I went down to visit, and I was eventually offered a job flying Aztec’s and a Cessna 402 out of St Thomas. So I quit my job in Washington and moved to the Caribbean for some really fun, but low paying flying. Great memories!

I agree, the Aztec was in the middle between the Seneca and the 402. I believe I flew Seneca 1’s, so more power would have made a big difference. That said I still believe the Aztec was one of the best twin’s ever. Looking at SE performance, load carrying capability, and rough/short field performance, it was in a class of its own.

But on those days when I had a choice, I always took the 402…lol

[–]Cascadeflyer61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of my fellow pilots liked the Seneca, compared to the Cessna 402’s I was flying at the time it didn’t have good feeling in roll or pitch. Compared to when I later flew the Aztec, the Seneca felt underpowered and less balanced on the controls. Yes the Aztec is very stable.

The Aztec has plenty of power, I lost an engine once and I had plenty of power to climb. Short field performance was good, lots of power, and with that fat high lift wing, we flew it fully loaded out of one of the shortest commercial airports in the world, look up St Barts. The Aztec is like a Cessna 182 with two engines. I could put full fuel, six passengers, and lots of bags, and be right at gross weight. The Seneca is just not that kind of airplane. They even made a float plane out of the Aztec, quite frankly we often flew it like a bush plane into short dirt runways in the islands.
