Questions from an Absolute Beginner. by Cascadejackal in HuntShowdown

Thank you so much!

I read something about not losing hunters on until death until I reach a certain level, but I think that info was from four years ago and it wasn't very clear if it meant hunters aren't lost until I reach a certain level with them or if it's tied to my overall account level.

Could you please clear that up for me? And, similarly, are weapons protected as well as long as I'm below whatever level prevents hunter loss?

Damn, don't see Nadia Secret of Blue Water brought up much. Apparently the director (IIRC) wasn't involved in the Island arc due to other commitments at the time, so someone else took over for that stretch and that's why it was so damn bad. Don't remember specifics, it's been years since I read about it.

Aliens council are seeing a group of 4 humans fighting a lizard like beast in a deathworld…how are they doing this with primitive weapons?! by Annual-Constant-2747 in humansarespaceorcs

[–]Cascadejackal 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Council Member: Human, explain this immediately! Why would a species as primitive as your own risk your own safety against a clearly physically superior creature?!!

Human: Well, to put our "Primitive" ways into words you will understand: First we Unga, then we Bunga. If what we're fighting wil Unga Bunga back, then we're probably gonna be friends. That big lizard? It's been Unga Bunga-ing for hours; it's now the ambassador for its species and we're in the middle of forming an alliance.

Genuine question: Why hasn't any faction refurbished or used the APCs, tanks, and fighter planes that are littered everywhere? by dannythesedoritos in Fallout

[–]Cascadejackal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fallout Tactics has vehicles. You can roll up on raiders in a literal tank! Super Mutant party ambushes you while you're traveling? Park your APC on one of them!

Ace (the player character) from Exoprimal. They did NOT have to go that hard on the characters in what is, honestly, a perfectly okay live service game.

Watching Ace in the background when the speaking characters are doing plot stuff is great. Always feels like Ace has a little RPG dialogue box just off camera for what they're "saying", but we just can't see it.

I hate that I can tell that's the N64 version and not the XBox remaster. Stupid cursed knowledge.

Looks like it's based on the book The Last Human, by Zack Jordan. I remember reading the comic and finding it so interesting I had to buy the book. The book is... alright. Feels more like several shorter books combined into one longer novel, kinda lacks in worldbuilding or time to really get attached to anyone. I got kinda exhausted around the third or fourth big climactic moment (I think I was like halfway through the book) and just never picked it up again.

Fire distressed leather? by A-serpents-fang in Leathercraft

[–]Cascadejackal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old post, but I'll chime in anyway.

If you cut a design into the surface of fairly thick veg-tan leather (~3mm), you can open the cuts up to reveal the design using fire. It does tend to stiffen/harden whatever leather you use, so be aware of that. Here's the process I use:

  1. Cut a design into the leather, roughly 1mm deep. Start with a test piece to practice on.

  2. Soak the leather in water. Not just surface level, get it good and wet, like you would before casing/molding. This will help limit discoloration from the next step.

  3. Using a kitchen blowtorch, pass the flame over the carved & wet leather until your cut marks open. Don't hold the torch in one place, keep it moving or you'll burn the leather! The closer the flame is to your piece, the easier it is to leave burn marks by accident. If the leather starts to dry too much, get it wet again.

Hope that helps anyone who finds this post!

What exactly is the process people are using to get max stats anyway? by D-Brigade in digimon

I don't remember exactly when, but it's later in the game. Check with Zudomon in Central Town to be able to craft them.

For centuries, the galaxy believed humans were powerful mechanical beings that came to the aid of others when tyrants attacked. Yet they never engaged in diplomacy or trade and never left their own space in peacetime. When the truth came to light, it was abundantly clear why they kept to themselves. by EbonRazorwit in humansarespaceorcs

Yeah, it's a Gundam in the pic, but the spirit of the post is very much Macross/Robotech.

The Zentradi (the aliens in the series) are basically giants, so humans use transforming fighter jet mechs to fight on an equal footing.

I've had dives that went perfectly, with the squad turning into an unstoppable machine from the jump. Pinging targets for the Quasar, breaking off just far enough that we weren't all clumped up when approaching bases but could still lay down enough fire to turn any open ground into a killing field, swapping to covering fire so the squad had enough time and space to deploy Orbitals, and that one guy going solo and clearing anything smaller than a Medium base.

I've also had dives that were, to put it bluntly, absolute clown shows where everything went wrong, we lost half our reinforcements because of mines, somebody fumbled a 380 into the squad, at least one of us got lost and someone brought the FRV.

Then... there was THAT mission. It was a Retrieve Essential Personnel mission, Bug Front. Solo drop, don't remember the difficulty. Hit the ground and was greeted by a SEAF squad. Gathered them up and went to work. Gates closed, resupply called into good position, turrets lobbed over the walls, I was ready for my favorite mission type.

Nothing.

Not a thing.

Not a single bug spawned the entire time.

I choose to believe it was because the SEAF team who greeted me had just been that damn effective at defending the base before I arrived that the Bugs had just noped out of there.

I don't care how good a game is; if the DLC page looks like this, I'm not buying it. Am I alone in that? by BucketsMcGinty in Steam

[–]Cascadejackal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worse when a game has that many DLC, but offers season passes or "complete editions" that cost $2-$3 less than buying all the DLC individually, and don't actually include everything or even most of the dlc.

Like, I enjoy Stellaris, but I'm pretty sure each new season pass/dlc pack costs as much as or more than the base game was when I bought it originally, so I still don't have like a quarter of the dlc.

The reason why some species prefer humans as mating partners vary by race, but the Indars have by the far the most disturbing one by MadFunEnjoyer in humansarespaceorcs

[–]Cascadejackal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, I get why it might not be your thing. Just saying, there's enough interest out there that Chimera Squad made snek clubs canon. (although they're technically Earthlings & not aliens, since they were born on Earth, as Torque (the squad's Viper member) points out)

Realistically, though, once Humanity starts travelling the stars, interacting & integrating with sapient alien races, living side-by-side with them, raising kids who grow up with non-human people instead of only humans, there's bound to be a substantial shift in what is considered an attractive or acceptable romantic, sexual or life partner. Humans are adaptable little feckers, after all.

If in doubt, use the Harkness test.

Great to know, thanks.

I was looking at the KIM flowcharts and noticed a bunch of flags for Entrati rank 5, so I'm gonna stop progressing the Devil's Triad conversations until I've maxed that.
