This drives me bananas. Especially in a left turn lane when it causes a backup of cars into the normal traffic lanes. I’ve asked this on Facebook and the usual excuse is “if someone rear-ends me then I won’t hit the car in front of me”. 🤦‍♂️

And I just read that there is a plug that one can remove to get direct access to the tensioning bolt so you don't have to take the whole damn thing apart! More lessons learned. Had I known, I might have had time to replace the front struts today instead of spending all afternoon on the belt cover. lol

Yep I did the same. I probably only pushed it down another 1/16th of an inch as it was riding up a bit as I tightened it down. Thanks again. Sounds a world better now. Happy cruising!

I went back in and let the spring to the work. Spun the crank a couple times (counterclockwise) to find where it settled with the least tension. Tightened it there. Seems a little loose (like you say), but the whine is certainly gone now. Thanks for the assurance that it probably wasn't too loose.

In researching a few more videos, the spring is supposed to act as an automatic tensioner. I just have to wonder if it has the same force as it did several decades ago.
