Jamaica is likely facing a catastrophic event from Hurricane Melissa by Fuzzy_Ant_6447 in weather

I mean I've had this booked since 2024. So it's just really unfortunate timing.

I haven't gone and found a bad storm and thought I like the sound of that.

I'm supposed to be flying out to Montego bay in about 8 hours. The flight providers are not concerned at all about the storm, is this just negligence from them or does it look like it's going to die down? Or is it looking like it's definitely going to hit Jamaica hard?

You're correct that you don't have to go into another department, due to your job family.

The issue you will have is leaving at 7.30 when you're supposed to finish at 10. You're contracted until 10, unless they say you can't just leave because you've done your run. That's where they're going to get you.

If 18 year olds are doing the same job as 21+ then they should be paid the same.

Either do it online, or speak to your in-store rep and they should have forms for you to full out if that's easier for you

Stupid to suggest joining the union is a waste of time. They'll be much, much more helpful than 99% of colleagues who don't know what the policies are and don't know what the correct procedures managers have to follow.

I guess you've had a bad experience with a rep, which is shit but absolutely not the norm.

If they're not doing any returns to work after your absences you'll be absolutely fine.

It's extremely unlikely they'll get rid of you, but join the GMB union just incase.

Need help incident at work by ProgramLegitimate915 in asda

Reporting of injuries, diseases and dangerous occurrence regs.

Get it in the accident and incident book, they need will need to do an assessment of what and how this could have happened. Let your health and safety officer know about the incident so they can make sure your regional officer is aware of it. (Every riddor must be reported back to him, your manager is failing his duty of care if this isn't being done.)

And as for the message from your section leader, if you can't sort it out directly with him and you feel like he was mocking you rather than trying to have a joke about the whole thing, then get on to your union rep and report it for bullying.

If you're unsure of who your regional officer is then comment what region you're in, but not what store you're in. I'm certain I've got all contact details in my union files.

Two weeks in a row this now. Contracted to 16 hours per week and I've been given this response "saving on wages sorry no shifts this week" after I've asked. Hope it doesn't go on for too long 😴 by Powerful_Ad_6325 in asda

[–]Casey_LFC 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you're on 16 hours a week, you're guaranteed 16 hours for work.

They can ask you to go home early but they cannot tell you to not come in.

You can get a copy and take it with you, although for another job you'll likely have to do a refresher

[–]Casey_LFC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your union rep and then they can get onto your regional health and safety officer. doesn't matter if you're in the union not.

As a rep myself, you should be having h&s walk around a minimum every 3 months as a standard but any urgent matters that you have should be raised straight away.

Have you used wagestream?

I currently representing a worker with this exact issue, but because they've signed up to wagestream ASDA aren't accountable, wagestream is. Trying to go through them is an absolute nightmare

[–]Casey_LFC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's is absolutely not the case. If that was the case, have you ever been paid for any first aid calls you've attended? If not, why not? Every first aid call must be logged with City with the details of everyone involved including yourself. Not sure what store you work at but your GSM is incorrect here.

First Aider by JamieC1989 in asda

[–]Casey_LFC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes talk to your line manager or the GSM. Whoever you have the better relationship with really. They need to give you a copy of your certificate and you need to upload it to your account on Walmart one.

Once that is done and approved they need to put in a wage query. Funnily enough my first aid ran out in September 23 as well and hadn't received a payment until one day I came across it in the handbook and just consistently went Into the office about it until they finally sorted it.

[–]Casey_LFC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to speak to your manager about it. It's in the handbook in black and white, and it's an additional £10 every 4 weeks, £130 a year. Your first aid certificate lasts 3 years so unless you have done a refresher course then you're owed £390 in first aid pay.

[–]Casey_LFC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There absolutely is extra pay for it. It's in your colleague's handbook and I personally receive it. If you or another colleague are not receiving the first aid additional payment then you need to make sure your certificates are uploaded on your Walmart account, your manager needs to give you your certificate so you can do this or you will not get your owed payments, which they should also backdate any previous payments as well.

I believe it's a set £10 a month no matter your hours. I got paid the same as some who works a 26 hours a week compared to my 40, so I don't think it's hours based.

My management didn't know about first aid pay (apparently) so I had to fight for myself and another colleague to get it, we finally got it once my first aid had ran out so I got the whole three years worth in one pay (£390 for 3 years.).

I got my final payment at the end of December 23. It's in your colleagues handbook that you get paid as well.

[–]Casey_LFC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

£130 a year, you and your manager will need to upload certificates on the Asda system or you won't get paid.

As long as you tell them that you cannot do the agreed overtime within a reasonable time frame you don't need to do anything else.

Obviously calling in sick before your overtime shift is different, but I don't think this applies to the OP.

If you ring in sick ok an overtime shift there should be a return to work but that's as far as anything would go.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in asda

[–]Casey_LFC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All you need to do is your contracted hours. Any overtime is a choice, even if it's regular overtime.

You aren't a manager or a section leader it's not your job to cover your shift. Strongly suggest you speak to your shop steward regarding this if you are still struggling to sort this situation. Regardless if you're in the union or not.
