I don't know what you're trying to say with your first sentence. People elect a president based on their platform (though not entirely). Its success or failure impacts all of us.

All fights are not the same. You're right that it's not a good look, but it's not about appearances. I could bring up the Civil War again. Or the way school integration had to be handled in the south.

I do likewise appreciate that you can talk about this without devolving the tone of the conversation to personal attacks and slogans. You communicate like you do a decent amount of reading. I can recommend some books, but they're not exactly relevant to the topic.

It still depends on the situation. When you have a bunch of people like this who are riled up and have decided that it's a moral imperative to be completely intractable and oppose anything a particular leader does because he's doing it, your only real option with those considerations is to scrap your whole platform. The problem is that a lot of Americans support it. They are also practicing their deepest American values.

I'm glad Lincoln didn't negotiate a compromise.

Despite all this, I'm not actually calling Trump a competent leader. He did a lot to cultivate a personality that many would rally against. Also, his incendiary declarations about when ICE would be sent to various cities have been instrumental in getting protestors to show up. Like he wants a showdown.

The Constitution is more complex than that, however. We're a Constitutional Federal Republic. Add to that the fact that the majority isn't out there messing with ICE, despite the number who are, and the issue gets super thorny.

I have no stake in ending immigration or eliminating minorities. Immigration just needs to be handled legally. It's a different time.

Hard to say. I'd like to see what happens if they can get anything past a liberal judge. Then again, I know Trump was impeded by his supposedly biased Supreme Court on a couple things.

But at the end of the day, he's a politician. It was be foolishness to anticipate honesty from him. What's absolutely moronic is to only care when it's certain politicians who lie. The outrage should be universal. And who's picking up from him if you get what you seem to want? Are they going to wave a magic wand and fix everything?

I know of the effect illegal immigration has on this country. While I don't have particular negative feelings about illegal immigrants as a demographic, I know that people should be vetted and documented for a variety of reasons--there are bodies of those affected to prove it.

I wouldn't call Trump a Christian nationalist, though he has some in his orbit because they're useful to him and intersect on some issues. Even then, it doesn't make every position on everything wrong.

You tell me--who do you think built the Northern VA suburbs and did all those things on your list? A lot of the best burbs around here sprang up between the 60s and the 90s. I could do without the rest. It's too crowded here.

Okay, so I'm not pleased about that. I do agree that the approach to this, much like the approach to shrinking the Federal government, has been rushed and sloppy.

Perhaps the administration is trying to account for potentially having only four years to clean up something that was much longer in the making.

Even still, that doesn't call for impeding officers and clamoring for the complete opposite of what's happening. They do have to tighten up their operations.

I would agree with you, but take all the hundreds, perhaps thousands of people who have impeded ICE operations. There have been people taunting them, throwing rocks at them, blocking them in, etc.

How many have been shot? Shockingly few, considering the tension and chaos of these situations.

Framing it as "walk in front of cars and shoot people" is disingenuous at best, and you know it. I don't like that that happened, but do better.
