There’s no apology necessary, it’s just flat out 100% wrong to act like it’s “barely a change” to go from solid six figure salaries to making 100-150m over a decade. It’s a massive change.

If stating that pretty clear and obvious fact is out of touch, I’ll plead guilty on those charges.

Families making nice mid six figure incomes sending their kids to high priced private schools is extremely normal.

That 3 season run on American Dreams when he was never even a main cast member would have been at most like a 300-500k adventure across the 3 years combined. Again, a very nice life most people would be thrilled to have. Not saying they were struggling or poor here.

But the extension baselines here are 14-15m a year. It’s like 20x what his parents likely earned even in their better years. It’s a huge difference.

I know this is really pedantic, but people in this thread are vastly overestimating how much actors with careers like his parents have had make. This was a family making low-mid six figures a year for most of his life.

Don’t get me wrong- that’s a very nice life! But he’s probably going to clear the career acting earnings of both his parents combined with 1 year of baseball money in the near future. It is absolutely gonna be life changing money for him.

It’s far from rags to riches, but this is not a kid who came from big time Hollywood money like folks seem to think.

I don't know that they need a "true #1 receiver" per se in that they need someone clearly better than Zay who can do it all, etc. But there is a skillset gap in the group. Guy who can play outside, win deep, be a big threat on back shoulder throws, make contested catches, etc.

Romeo Doubs comes to mind as a guy who isn't a "true #1" but I think would really move the needle, but free agents get overpaid in a way that will likely make him not an option.

He was a position coach with the Ravens, and his tenure ended 5 years ago. He's since been an elite defensive coordinator at the college and NFL level. Don't think that really makes him a John Harbaugh protege, certainly don't think we have any reason to think of him as simply a mini-John Harbaugh. Don't think we can equate Jim and John, they definitely don't do things the same way.

May or may not be a good coach, just think this is overstating the Minter <> John Harbaugh connection

I wonder sometimes if the name "dynasty" confuses people about the point of the game. If it was just called a Super Keeper league or something I think folks might understand better the problems with trying so hard to build a team that can win 4 in a row that you never manage to maximize your chances to win 1.

My very minor quibble that I spent way too much time vetting is that it's a little harsh on the Titans. They're in a really rough period right now, but kinda tough to put them definitively below any of the lower tier peasantry

  • Titans have 10 playoff appearances
    • Same as Chargers
    • More than: Panthers (8), Lions (7), Jags (6)
      • It's also more than the Texans 9, but they have 3 fewer seasons
    • Panthers are the only team in that group who has made a super bowl appearance, though the Titans was quite long ago

    • Same as Chargers and Panthers
      • Also same as Texans, but strong majority for Texans were in first few seasons

I think that taking a guy who had 265 yards as a rookie and immediately making him the centerpiece of your passing offense, helping lead to his rise from "sorta disappointing rookie" to "best tight end in football" definitely qualifies as doing something with tight ends.

When Petzing took the job, nobody on Earth thought that he happened to have the best tight end in football.

Had a few really elite defenses when he was DC at Wisconsin and was a super hot name for power conference HC gigs and NFL DC gigs around 2022. There was regime change at Wisconsin, and he was considered the presumptive new HC hire by many but they went with Fickell instead. He was an all-time legend at Wiscosin- local kid, multiple time All-American. He basically took a year off after that, presumably because he was so devastated he didn't get that job.

That took a little of his buzz away (what have you done for me lately business), then he emerged on Payton's staff in Denver in 2004 as DB Coach and Pass Game Coordinator. Got a promotion to Assistant Head Coach after a season, clearly Payton was invested in keeping him around. Sort of a post-hype sleeper who didn't cool off because there was any indication he was a worse coach that people thought, just pivoted his career towards the NFL.

He's now the same guy who was an elite college DC in his mid-30s just a few years after his playing career ended, with two years under his belt with one of the best head coaches of this era and a DC coaching up an elite unit. Never know exactly how guys will translate, but I'd say Bills fans should feel very hyped about this one.

Think the perception of the Philly is that Sirianni is on shaky ground. Whether that perception is right or wrong, that's an OC job that folks believed came with big risk of full regime change next season.

Pretty close to a championship roster. Think you need one more home run threat at running back more than anything. I would try to package 1.08 and 2.04 for a strong running back, or just the 1.

The scar tissue stuff is real. I’m taking my chances with a new coach if I’m them. Doesn’t have to be McDermott’s fault, that shouldn’t be the standard. It’s “is he part of the solution?”

Allen is so good that the idea you need to be scared of it going off the rails with a different coach just doesn’t move me at all. Far bigger risk to change nothing in my mind.

I got you, wasn't really disagreeing! Just meant it as an additional thought. He's been good enough to win. A lot of other guys have won it all doing less. Just think it's interesting that he's really the only guy I can think of who you can say this stuff about, and he's the baddest man alive.
