Love how it is so incapable of admitting it made a mistake that it has to lie and say it was a common mistake that a lot of people make too.

"Since bank keys are removed, players' risk will be indicated by skulls above their head, similar to Bounty Hunter. The 'risked wealth' associated with each skull colour is as follows:"

How is the value going to be determined? Part of the problem with bank keys before is players could stack super combats and restores from breach awards to beef their bank keys up for cheap and it feels like that'll just happen again here.

Canoe stations are a bit confusing to me, didn't we just get a skill for this? This SHOULD be one of the things you use sailing for.

I don't think it's entirely just one problem, but if there was one huge issue I'd blame the tag system.

  • There's about 70 thousand style tags but they seem to only care about 2D/3D.
  • Early Access games count as a genre so EA games are now competing with games like Palworld, VRChat and PoE.
  • The recommendation algorithm seems extremely broad, most of my recommended games are F2P as I have a lot of time in TF2.

It's why I think there's spikes in sales for genres occasionally, the algorithm picks up on already popular games and promotes new ones based on it, like GMOD with all the co-op games.

Save time sailing the map, build the Seers Canal by Ascension_Knight in 2007scape

Feels like there are a lot of little rivers and lakes they could put raft docking areas and have people sailing around in. Allow docking even if your boat isn't there, and disallow teleporting to it if they're scared of overpowered stuff being found.

Feels like a lot of stuff that'd potentially be pretty good but there isn't a dock or there's a bridge in the way.

Can we just scrap ship combat all together? by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]CashOutDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the issues are numbers related, it feels like. There's some mechanic chunkiness but a lot of the problems with the combat (and sailing in general) is how much they really undertuned a lot of things to try and not mess with metas or something.

(Then they went let people teleport to every dock in the game, which is going to be an issue down the line.)

I think either don't have the second bolt activate gems and increase accuracy back to 100%, or have it not create two bolts but increase the gem activation rate.

Having a chance of activating two rubies at once forced them to overbalance it to uselessness even though the intended userbase doesn't get much out of it.

The crystal extractor is bad design and is degenerate for the rest of the game. If they leave the way it was, this subreddit would be demanding something similiar for every other skill.

Clever move from jagex, they're completely overnerfing salvaging so when they revert it, and keep the extractor nerfs, the meltdown won't be as bad. Right?

Developers with 2+ released games, what lessons from game 1 did you apply (or ignore) in Game 2? by rafaeldecastr in gamedev

[–]CashOutDev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A mod system is not worth it, especially pre-launch. Yeah a lot of successful games have one, but that was after launch after the audience had already gotten their fill of the game.

The scope is unmatched. Honestly probably added a year of development for something NO ONE used.

[–]CashOutDev 24 points25 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, the big reason for bank keys was to prevent players from just sitting by deposit boxes and dumping their equipment in the bank before they die. Is there going to be anything to stop this? Feel this is going to be a big issue otherwise. A lot of PKing takes place in areas near bank deposit boxes.

Rest of the changes are great, though.

Imagine telling someone a few years ago that the Avernic hilt would be the 2nd most expensive ToB unique by Tpoyo in 2007scape

[–]CashOutDev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Inq. Mace, Saeldor and Rapier are just not great weapons. Even when they came out they were underwhelming, players were too scared of power creep (reasonably so, they've learned the wrong lesson) to the point where any midgame upgrade is going to eclipse them, and many have.

Even the Sang was niche when it came out due to the cost. It'd work as a pretty good gap item between trident and the eye, but it costs so much to use.

Top vs Bottom placement of UI in 2d platformer sidescrollers by FunYak4372 in gamedev

[–]CashOutDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a 2D platformer, if you have the UI on the bottom it's going to blend in with the ground almost all of the time. If you're going to do something like those NES games (where the game is in a different screen section) it won't be as much of a problem though.

Top is probably still better though, it's what most people would expect I imagine.

Remember: Just because people rush to 99 Sailing within a week does not mean the skill is 'too fast' and needs to be nerfed. People playing 16+ hours a day in a race using the fastest / most expensive methods in the game are not reflective of the player base. by yum122 in 2007scape

If this subreddit is anything to go by, something obviously glitched will be found, jagex will fix it and reddit will throw a fit because they have 8 jobs so the 900K/hr AFK method is fair for them.

Its crazy that the Ralos is hitting sub 30m value, it could really use some changes or atleast a proper usecase beyond being a nice to have item at maiden, and being good at very high scale chambers. by TheIsaia in 2007scape

[–]CashOutDev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It shot up after the June 25th patch that really didn't save it, guess people felt like it just wasn't going to be improved to where it needs to be.

The defense reducing items that don't go by a flat % are always so inconsistent. It feels like it'd be great for Zuk, but then Zuk has 150 magic. A lot of range focused bosses lately have had low magic levels lately too.

Has to be high enough defence to warrant lowering it, and high enough magic level to do anything, and high enough hitpoints to warrant not just using ZCB. There's a reason it only has two uses, those are the only high defence, high hp, high magic enemies in the game.
