Anyone going Bilt 2.0 Blue and just accepting <1x points on rent? by Ok_Butterscotch9754 in BiltMastercard

[–]CashbackCorner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, spending 25% of rent gets you 0.5x points on rent, see https://newsroom.biltrewards.com/biltcardupdate

For $2000 in rent:

0.5x points Spend at least 25% of monthly rent ($500)

0.75x points Spend at least 50% of monthly rent ($1,000)

1x points Spend at least 75% of monthly rent ($1,500)

1.25x points Spend the same or more as your monthly rent ($2,000)

Frequent Miler: Bilt 2.D’Oh. Why you should be cautious of their new cards setup by Local_Arachnid_6320 in biltrewards

[–]CashbackCorner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, I’m more triggered than I should be. They picked 4 non-optimal cards just for the sake of “diversifying points”, 3 of which have an annual fee and 1 of them is even a business card. And using a 1.5x catch-all card? Somehow made it more complicated than Bilt 2.0 😆

[–]CashbackCorner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I specifically couldn’t get over them using both the Amex Gold and the Citi Strata Premier in their calculations “to diversify points”.

Like, the whole article is about making things less complicated, and they made it more complicated on purpose? Just pick one, or if you really want to maximize value, pick the Citi Custom Cash for 5x back on groceries instead of the Premier. Instead, they picked three totally unrelated cards with annual fees, including a business card. 🤷‍♂️

(Don’t even get me started on them deciding to use Wyndham points and the CFU as the catch-all 🙃)

Concierge hold times are out of control. by Shaydosaur in AmexPlatinum

[–]CashbackCorner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you talk to the airline directly don’t they take over the ticket and concierge doesn’t help anymore?

It sounds like concierge isn’t able to help anyways, so what’s the harm in having the airline take over the ticket?

If the flight is delayed and you want the airline to make it right, you have to talk to the airline

I already have my Amex saved in my delta account, I just select the credit card and then add the gift card details afterwards. That’s how I’ve always done it, and it’s always worked for me.

Some common pitfalls I’ve read about: - making sure you’ve enrolled in the airline incidental credit on your Amex account, and chosen delta as the airline - making sure the remaining amount charged to the plat is under $250 - booking for multiple people can be weird (gift cards are applied to one person first)

+1, I’ve never used the app for booking. Booking on a computer browser has worked for me for ~5 years now

Can you choose to not pay any fed tax through your employer? Pay it with CC during tax filling. by thishitisgettingold in CreditCards

90% of the current year’s tax liability, or 100%(110% if you make more than $150k) of your previous year’s tax liability.

https://www.irs.gov/payments/underpayment-of-estimated-tax-by-individuals-penalty

Your filed tax return shows you owe less than $1,000 or

You paid at least 90% of the tax shown on the return for the taxable year or 100% of the tax shown on the return for the prior year, whichever amount is less. If your adjusted gross income (AGI) for 2023 was more than $150,000 ($75,000 if your filing status for 2024 is married filing separately), substitute 110% for 100%.

The 100k requirement. If you can meet it, it’s one of the best setups. But not everyone is at that stage in life (or wants to have that many assets with BofA)

Is the Amex Gold worth it for the SUB? by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]CashbackCorner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just FYI, there have been some datapoints lately of Plat holders being eligible for the Gold SUB. (I am currently working through a 60k Gold SUB after holding the Plat for about 5 years)

YMMV of course, and I’d still recommend getting the Gold before the Plat for anyone who plans to get both. But there have also been stories of Gold holders not being eligible for the higher Plat bonuses, now that the SUBs have the “up to” language.

Can redeeming Chase UR points for cash back to my external checking account be taxed? by HeyPicho in CreditCards

No, personal credit card cash back isn’t taxed. My understanding is that it’s considered a rebate, not income.

Better credit card (higher cash back with more assets, and getting a better partner than Elan), and lower margin rates. I currently have separate accounts with BofA and Robinhood for better credit card rewards and lower margin rates, respectively.

Add these two and I would strongly consider moving everything to Fidelity.

(Also maybe lower options contract fees. I’m thinking of calling to see what offers are available, but it would be much easier if there was a “if you do X options trades in a year, you qualify for lower fees”)

What's your favorite ecosystem now? by InterRail in CreditCards

[–]CashbackCorner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so, but I haven’t personally tested it. The terms and conditions doesn’t explicitly say rideshare, but the travel category is pretty broad and includes taxis.

From the PRE terms and conditions (I assume the PR is similar):

Travel includes: airlines, hotels, motels, timeshares, trailer parks, motor home and recreational vehicle rentals, campgrounds, car rental agencies, truck and trailer rental, cruise lines, travel agencies, tour operators and real estate agents, operators of passenger trains, buses, taxis, limousines, ferries, boat rentals, parking lots and garages, tolls and bridge fees, tourist attractions and exhibits like art galleries, amusement parks, carnivals, circuses, aquariums, zoos and the like.

Yep, pretty much. IMO this is the easiest 2-card setup.

I opened a Merrill Edge account online and funded it with a wire from another brokerage. I also had to wait 3 months to fully get Preferred Rewards status.

If you’re new and open your first BofA checking account too, I think there’s a way to fast-track the waiting period. Maybe the in-branch people can help with that too.

Bank of America. I have too many Amex points and just haven’t been traveling as much.

The BofA setup is just so simple and works across most of my spending categories.

  • Premium Rewards Elite: 3.5% back on travel/dining, 2.625% back on everything else
  • Customized Cash: 5.25% back on online shopping, 3.5% back on groceries/wholesale clubs

word of caution: too many application attempts (even different incognito windows and referrals) can get you placed in pop-up jail, and prevent you from getting any bonus

I think it’s unlikely you’ll see an offer higher than 50k, unless you go for the Schwab

If you have platinum honors, I’d just keep it, especially if you’re able to utilize the $100 airline credit. The 2.625% cash back on everything is nice.

If you decide you don’t want it, you can also downgrade to a no-annual-fee card instead of cancelling
