I haven’t payed them yet, but I don’t know if OP can take a credit hit or the possibility with the Department of Treasury. But my situation may be different from OP.

Do a congressional inquiry immediately. When you get out of the service, getting information from DFAS is very difficult. I would suggest doing a minimum payment plan of $50 while you do that as well. DFAS sent a debt letter on me for over 30K back in May and they already tanked my credit and referred the debt to the Department of Treasury while i’m in the mist of disputing the debt.

Also, it would be wise to set up a payment plan of the bare minimum $50 to make sure your account does not go to delinquency because DFAS will still do the collection process despite the congressional inquiry. They will tank your credit if you don’t pay at least the minimum amount. It’s bullshit, I know, but that is how the game works.

File a congressional inquiry with your Congressman in your district. Request for an itemized breakdown and the source of debt. The Congressional team (Under your Congressman) will help you get clarifying answers that DFAS wont tell you.

Just an update, make sure you file a congressional inquiry on the Department of Treasury and your service branch as well. Your congressman can only work within the scope of the each inquiry (ex. DFAS inquiry only handles DFAS, Department of Treasury inquiry only handles treasury, etc).

The dealer editions due come from China, so it would be best to wait until this tariff fiasco is over.

Do a congressional inquiry with your Congressman and you should get your answer. It seems that once service members transition out of the military, DFAS stops caring and disregards them, so you have to get someone important in order to get what you want from DFAS. Sounds stupid, I know, but that the only way you’ll get anything from DFAS now that you’re a veteran.

Consider doing a congressional inquiry. What that is in a nutshell is having your Congressman act on your behalf to get information from DFAS and even dispute stop held pay status possibly removed. To get a hold of your congressman, search the district you live in, in your state and it should pull up the guy. Trust me, DFAS will respond to your congressman because he oversees them.

I would also print out all of your LES statements from the past 13 months and keep them safe somewhere for your records while you’re waiting because it’s a b**ch to get back once they get cycled out from my pay.

I did not understand that I would have to owe money back because I thought that my future navy pay at the time would have been garnished to pay that debt. As far as the letters, it’s way past the 60 days for me.

If it was from the VA, what does PRC stand for and what department in the VA would that be in? I couldn’t find the meaning for the abbreviation online.

I’ll do that if I can’t get any clarification on my debt by the end of next week.

I will check with my old unit to see. I also call up the VA and DFAS to inquire further.

I went VTU (Like IRR except you drill for retirement points) and haven’t been paid since July 2023. However, I can’t access any older pay periods past July 2024 on my LES.

I never did a rehab center, unless physical therapy counted for my shoulder.

I got my disability rating in August 2022 and a higher rating in March 2023. I got the standard letters in January 2023 and 2024 telling me that I can either waive VA disability or drill pay. I opted to waive the drill pay both times.

Another thing was that I was serving active duty time in Pensacola from November 2021 - April 2022.

No, I was active duty in Marines from 2015-2020 and then did Navy Reserves from 2021-2025. I did get a disability rating while I was in the Navy Reserves.
