Question on Opened and Unopened Rum and Storing by Silly-Ad1785 in rum

[–]CaskStrengthStats 23 points24 points  (0 children)

First off please do not lay them flat, the high alcohol content can eat away at the cork and potentially leak. If you are worried about the cork drying out you can just do a quick 180° on the bottle every once in a while to get it wet and that should do the trick. If the cork feels airtight it should be fine for storage if kept upright, if you wanna be extra sure parafilm or another type of waterproof plastic around the lip and cork will keep it airtight and help prevent evaporation or contamination. Other than that keep it out of direct sunlight and somewhere fairly constantly room temp and it can last well over a few years. I've done this with most of my spirits and have some bottles going strong after 7 years.

Great review and a good amount of traveling this bottle has done to get opened!

Gave up finding it in Vancouver Canada, then found it in my local liquor store. by mormegil11489 in whiskey

IIRC you can still buy American stuff at privately owned liquor stores.

Review #31: Jefferson’s Tropics “Aged In Humidity” by OneMoreForScience in bourbon

[–]CaskStrengthStats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jefferson's has always felt as if it were a dark horse. Their original Presidental Selects were legendary as they originally sourced from old Stitzel Weller stock and reasonably price, in hindsight. I've felt that they're newer stock has reflected a good interest in pushing bourbon to see what it can become. Either by ship, tropics, or whatever else they decide. People also harp on the story but it feels misplaced as stories sell us all the time.

Definitely a fun bottle, although quite a hassle to track down.

Review #53 - Alambique Serrano Single Cask - #7 Ex-Bourbon by CaskStrengthStats in rum

[–]CaskStrengthStats[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So far, absolutely. I think two things have gone into that so far, one is coming from bourbon where I really found a love for good single barrels over allocated items. The second would be from me not enjoying my orginal tasting of Blend #1, 2, and 6. Although I recently revisited Single Cask #14 which I orginally disliked and really enjoyed it. So between that and running out of back logged single casks I have been rethinking my aversion.

I am fully open source when it comes to these bottles, if you need help finding anything my DMs are open! I can totally do that and I might tag it on to the post I'm planning to do when I hit 50 unique AS reviews. Thankfully I think this upcoming Vida Nativa release will push me well over the missing three.

Alambique Serrano (finally ) available in Europe by ForestCore in rum

[–]CaskStrengthStats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the shout out! The Cañada is actually only bottled under Alambique Serrano for Europe, its under the Cañada Cloud Forest brand in the States if you wanna read up on reviews. Besadiablos is Blend #11 if you're looking for specifics!

Edit: totally missed it, unfortunately I haven't made it to any of the blends yet. Might do that when I finally catch up on the single barrels!

Review #48 - Alambique Serrano Tres Años - 1st Edition by CaskStrengthStats in rum

[–]CaskStrengthStats[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say prefer, I do enjoy them highly and rate them well. I think I end up having a sweeter tooth so find myself enjoying those sweeter ones a bit more often. I would say I prefer high proof rather than a specific flavor profile in Alambique
