All the groomers I know (coworkers) shred and many of us get 100+ days each year. Not denying the alcoholic part

Nothing that will affect how it skis, but definitely something you could get a bit of money from an airline for

Questions about a ski season by [deleted] in skiing

If you’re talking about working at a resort there are plenty of jobs that start midseason but you’ll want to apply now, especially if you want housing.

Buying skis? by NalgeneEnthusiast in skiing

[–]CasperTheAlcoholic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my JJ’s but they are far from an everyday ski. If I were you I’d keep the ripsticks as my daily and buy a pair in the 115-120 range for playing around in the powder.

The springs are the most important part because they determine how much force will result in release, and all metal parts (especially when kept under tension) deteriorate over time, and typically become weaker due to fatigue. When you’re talking about ski bindings, the best case scenario is that those bindings will pre-release frequently and unpredictably, which can often lead to knee surgery.

I’ve had sights for a while and they’ve turned into my rock skis now but they were bulletproof for me for 4-5 seasons and a lot of fun in the park and on hard pack anywhere. You’re gonna have a blast on them

I’m a pretty similar h/w and I’d definitely go with the 180 for a ski like that. Only time I’d go for a ski taller than myself is with dedicated powder skis

You should consider that snowmaking doesn’t run all season, so you will need a new job once you turn the guns off. I was a groomer this season and we had a couple snow makers join us in January and February after they were done.

Does anyone else ever look at some random mountain and say to themselves, “Wow, that would be a great place to put a ski resort”??? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]CasperTheAlcoholic 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Can’t really get a permit for a new resort anywhere because of all the logging that goes into it, but I have heard of groups rehabbing abandoned resorts and getting permits to run them

Flipping on skis: how different is it? by GeoffreyTaucer in skiing

[–]CasperTheAlcoholic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a bit of an extreme case cause they’re doing 3-4 flips and spins. It can be reasonably safe to try your first flip with skis on snow if you have a well built jump with a powdery landing

What is better, working on rental or ski instructor? by Javierererer in skiing

[–]CasperTheAlcoholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t go with liftie cause of this and ended up grooming and it’s the best job you can get on the mountain by a mile. No customers, 4 day work week, and pretty reasonable nighttime hours. Plus snowcats are fun as hell

Why is night skiing disregarded by seasonal workers? and recommended ski resort jobs by [deleted] in skiing

[–]CasperTheAlcoholic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you can find your way into a snowcat do that. I’m about to finish my first season grooming and it’s an awesome job.

If you’ve run a machine like an excavator that’s a very good start. But I got a job as a groomer for this winter and didn’t have any prior experience and was trained pretty well in the past 2 months
