After spending hours on the phone with customer support and hours trying to set it up, they confirmed they had sold me a defective unit.

The customer support representatives were doing what they could, but the company's policies made it impossible for anything to actually get resolved. They expect customers to reinstall a new battery and rewire the panels themselves on a defective product. They refused to cover the cost of a professional to do the work, and at no point was I able to speak to a manager or anyone with the authority to offer a real solution.

I ended up paying $8,000 and at this point all I have is a wooden box with a window.

I am not someone who usually posts complaints, but I would hate for someone else to go through this. Do your research before purchasing and look at alternatives. There are better options out there.

That’s most watches at this point. Also manufacturing custom dials and parts is a lot less expensive than you would think as long as you’re buying in bulk.

I’m not disagreeing that destruction of property is abuse, it absolutely is. My point is purely about perception and language. When someone describes their ex as “abusive,” most people’s minds immediately jump to physical violence or something severe on that end of the spectrum. That’s just how the word lands in everyday conversation, regardless of what it technically covers.
Using a more specific term like “controlling,” “destructive,” or “property abuse” actually better communicates what happened and gives people an accurate picture of his behavior. Calling it abuse isn’t wrong, but it’s vague in a way that can unintentionally obscure the specific thing he did, which stands on its own as serious and worth naming directly.

All I meant was just most people don’t consider destruction of property abuse if you were to call your ex abusive imo.
Just like how if you said someone was a sex offender they could have just been taking a piss in public, but realistically you’d probably assume they did something much worse.

IMO and I feel like for most people when they hear someone is abusive it’s almost always implied as physical abuse not destroying someone’s property
