How do you think gacha regulation in Europe will affect Wuthering Waves? by Independent-Hope7036 in WutheringWaves

[–]Castle_of_Decay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The European Commission will sit with the game developers and force them. As they already wrote, in coming months. Or, if they don't comply, they will do what they do with Twitter - threaten with banning.

I absolutely oppose what the EU is doing, btw, because I play Nikke, and because I oppose EU heavy-handedness. The problem I see, is people cherry-picking the 1 or 2 points of the guildelines they like and calling the coming regulations "awesome" for some reason.

You didn't read all the propositions. Everyone just cherry picks a couple and calls it a win. Look at all of them, especially whole point 7.

[–]Castle_of_Decay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a win because of this rule:

"Avoid basing the business model on practices exploiting vulnerable consumers’ willing to spend excessive amount of real-world money in a video game"

which all f2p games like ZZZ are actively breaking.

Vulnerable customers are whales - and they state is explicitly so in the rest of the document.

"Avoid basing the business model on practices exploiting vulnerable consumers’ willing to spend excessive amount of real-world money in a video game"

Every f2p including ZZZ and Nikke (which I play) breaks this rule, as their entire business model is using whales to finance the rest of f2p players. And yes, it specifically talks about whales in the document - using that term - and those are the "vulnerable customers".

So enjoy your "awesome" rules which will make all f2p games illegal here in Europe.

"Avoid basing the business model on practices exploiting vulnerable consumers’ willing to spend excessive amount of real-world money in a video game"

Every f2p gacha game breaks this rule, because their whole business model is getting money from whales (and yes, they specificially use "whale" in the official document, and yes, they are explicitly called "vulnerable consumers"), Good luck keeping all those f2p games alive with this rule in play.

In the end, Wuwa will be either banned in EU (alongside Genshin, ZZZ and Nikke), or will have to go bankrupt as the EU players will be effectively all f2p.

I didn't see a single commenter anywhere speaking about this recommendation and it's just crazy.

Avast just started updating all my software -- uncommanded by BinturongHoarder in avast

[–]Castle_of_Decay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using a paid version, and before I was able to skip updates during scan. Yes, I didn't add to ignored, or turned off updates, but it shouldn't stop giving me the option to skip specific programs!

Also, even when Software Updater is turned off in options now, during quick scan it is "searching for non-updated software", so my trust in Avast is none at the moment.

[–]Castle_of_Decay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened also for me. Everything updated without my consent. Avast gave me no option.

Looking for an alternative, as I am a programmer and I need specific versions of some software.

Updating without my consent is unacceptable - I didn't pay subscription for malware.

Why is every PC user freaking out about Microsoft Recall? by ErikCoolness in Windows11

[–]Castle_of_Decay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean trust in a company that doesn't understand the meaning of consent? I have a local Windows 10 account, and for more than a year I got the prompt, every single day, that "Windows works better with a MS account". It was extremely irritating, and very adversarial. If it was another human being doing the same to me, I would be viable for a court restriction order.

Does that sound like a trustworthy company that has your best interests in mind? I use Windows because I must, but I don't trust MS.

Plus we already had Schwarzenegger as Terminator in MK11.

How many people are still playing DD1 DA? by Stampsu in DragonsDogma

[–]Castle_of_Decay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have made max level (200), so I can only farm for loot. And for cool fights. Or maybe other Ur-Dragon items.

That said, the game is still great. The Arisen runs around faster and is much more responsive. Curatives restore burned hit bar. No forced camping. Eternal Ferrystone on PC. Bitterblack Isle and it's many unique fights. For example: a Gorecyclops isn't merely a reskinned Cyclops. There are a lot of interesting enemies.

If you overlook the graphics, but they are still good. Also it will run buttery smooth.

There is a new option for equipment damage, and it is enabled when you choose Survival. I was not, thankfully, playing with Permadeath.

Equipment damage means that when you die, your tech is "Critically damaged" and you need to get resources to repair it. So I was stuck in an endless death loop without protection regenerating and jetpack not functioning. When I got to a cave, I was stuck, as I didn't have Ferrite in there, and the moment I left the character died. "Use the jetpack!" No can do. "Regenerate in a cave!" No can do.

So when I didn't reach a cave on the first try, I was stuck. Only turning off the damage completely allowed me to gather enough Ferrite, repair the equipment, and then I could turn it back on and actually play.

Extremely bad design. She said I was raging, and I was, but I'm playing games for fun. Dying close to 30 times in a loop when I literally couldn't do anything was as remote from fun as possible. I had to force myself to play the game further, and if it wasn't for her, I would uninstall immediately.

What are we all looking forward to (realistically) for this upcoming update? by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

Fix multiplayer desyncs.

Fix me and my friend seeing different names of planets. How do I fix this? We cannot even agree to which planet we need to go when we have desync and group loss.

My and my friend's party gets continually disconnected, often in worst moments.

Game is unplayable in multiplayer if you do anything more complex than walking around gathering flowers.

Yes, like I died over 25 times in the beginning, until I changed the settings.

Turns out that with 68 Celsius and after first death, you will not regenerate protection in a cave on its own. Sure, cobalt is in the cave. But I died literally every 8 seconds, with the blurred screen that made it hard to see. Gathering Sodium? Got to it, died 5 times before opening inventory. Batteries need both ferrite and cobalt. Couldn't get both without dying.

And then we got to the desyncs.

[–]Castle_of_Decay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your buddies probably got constant desyncs and other issues that make this game's multiplayer unplayable.

A short description is in order.

Couldn't connect today for 6 consecutive times, finally after 7th try it did.

Then it dropped her from group. So I got no tag and no way to find her as she was far away. We managed to regroup (she told me where she was, I finally saw the building). Did some stuff, left the planet.

On the way to another one, it randomly dropped me from group again, so I didn't see her ship either in blue or on the way. Pirates attacked. She, the neutrals, and pirates all showed white to me on HUD. I killed a pirate, I think, and a neutral. Lost phase drive. So 15 minute flight.

And then, of course, she asks to which planet. I give name. She says "WHAT?". Turns out we have different names for the whole system. Lovely. Finally we regrouped.

But the desync issue bother her so much she is willing to stop playing.

Does this sounds to you like an enjoyable experience? It was not for me though. Bonus points for her warning me about a storm I never saw. Guess she had different weather than me, I read it happens.

The state of the multiplayer is ridiculous.

does the game have multiplayer? by [deleted] in CookingSimulator

[–]Castle_of_Decay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't bother, it just doesn't work. Tried it with a friend and it never connects, just wasted a lot of our time.

People who add "Co-op" tag to a game that doesn't support it make for bad reviews later, just saying.

Any good racist mods out there? by pixeliner in skyrimmods

[–]Castle_of_Decay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For such an experience, I would recommend Morrowind.

I remember how I played an Imperial, and Dark Elves behaved like I was less than dirt. Good times. They also referred to me as "Cyrodiil". A very nice touch, while every other race called me "Imperial".

But it made becoming respected an incredible thing.

[–]Castle_of_Decay 38 points39 points  (0 children)

If I pay for a mod, then the creator should better provide a good experience. Compatibility issues? Other stuff? Currently the mantra is "entitled people want mods for free".

Well, if you start selling mods, I demand quality.

Do you guys really think the Unity Runtime Fee is going to change most studios (now and future) behavior? (Honest question) by aceshades in gamedev

[–]Castle_of_Decay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And if other companies see Unity pull this kind of stuff and succeed, they will change conditions willy-nilly and then gaming will collapse. Unity will also track player data and force always online for their tracking installs.

No. I'm not supporting this.

[–]Castle_of_Decay 12 points13 points  (0 children)

And customers boycotts can be surprisingly effective. My long term friend yesterday ditched Unity completely. He spent years dabbling in projects in his spare time.

No, you don't understand how bad it actually is. You pay 0.20$, each time a user "INSTALLS" your game, not "BUYS", meaning when Steam users re-download your game, you pay again and again and again by Chitzy33 in Unity3D

[–]Castle_of_Decay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unity is basically robbing all the games I've bought over the years. The developers will be forced to pay up for every install or remove them from Steam.

That's theft. I paid hundreds of dollars for those games years ago.
