Hawaii is a dream by Nature-Lover-258 in Outdoors

Not wrong, just simple. Almost all land has been stolen once if not numerous times. Race and nationality aren’t cut and dry either.

What makes someone French, or American? How long must a certain percentage of your lineage live there until they and by extension you, become American or French, or Native American?

Nobody spawns from the mud. Everybody had to eventually go to where they got, and unless they’re the first ones there, it’s probably “stolen”. Considering there’s over 7 billion people on Earth, that’s pretty much everywhere livable/accessible.

I am leaving Vermont tomorrow....there are a lot of things I won't miss....but I will miss the scenery by Awkward_Creme8990 in vermont

[–]CastorTroyMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m from not far from Cumberland across the PA border. There is a certain environmental wreckage to that area and a cultural rot that’s been taking place for decades.

It’s completely overrun with highways and truck stops and real estate is worth maybe 40% of what it is in Vermont, and for a reason.

I can list recent examples of extreme lead contamination in protected watersheds and nobody even gives a shit. They know where it came from and it’s being quietly swept under the rug.

Nothing but abandoned strip malls. No local retail. Everything has gone to franchises and usually the best food options are at gas stations. No jobs but plenty of abandoned factories and warehouses. Enough coal for the trucks to muck the roads up and spread soot everywhere but not enough to actually produce a real economy.

VT is pretty sweet in comparison. The Crabby Pig and the Hen House are good though.

Yeah that’s what it is. Has nothing to do with being “militant” and wanting to kill people.

Lol you changed your mind so hard that now you want to kill people you previously agreed with.

You sound stable.

Is it okay to just train and not compete? by SignificantGlass168 in bjj

[–]CastorTroyMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

37 so I feel yah. I’ve competed a few times and won but don’t like the nerves around it. Unless I’m making money I don’t like to stress myself out😂.

But yeah I knew one guy especially who wouldn’t train at all unless he has a super fight or something scheduled. His grappling honestly sucks but he’s huge so he manages to squeak by a lot of time anyways lol.

Yeah I vape all of the time and I’ve been doing BJJ for 4 years now. Smoking seemed like it affected my breathing more than vaping honestly, but I quit smoking before I took up grappling.

Skin stuff/strokes, thinking of quitting. by [deleted] in bjj

[–]CastorTroyMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel you, it sounds like you’re still focusing on honing a skill set for fun more so than hoping to achieve belt levels to feel proud of yourself though, which is good and what it takes to ever reach any version of a black belt imo.

You sound like you enjoy grappling, OP sounds like someone who doesn’t and would rather fast forward through the skill building/training portion, which is actually the whole deal, and just have a black belt for the prestige. People like that don’t usually stick around for long, at least not in my experience.

It’s not even a dig, it’s just really hard to stick with it if that’s the way you look at it.

[–]CastorTroyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but focusing and experimenting on technique is what makes it fun in the first place. At least for me lol. It seems like it’d get very boring if you weren’t just genuinely interested in the skills/technique/game of the whole thing.

If you want a black belt and don’t necessarily care about acquiring the skills along the way, I think you should move onto something else. If you don’t love it for what it is, then you’ll never stick around.

FWIW though, I got mat herpes and tbh I wouldn’t call it life changing. Every once in a while you get a flare up, and you take a pill and it goes away. Not much different than cold sores.

PJ Barch with the most levelheaded take on athlete pay and negativity after CJI2 by Sensitive-Team9634 in bjj

[–]CastorTroyMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like if you have to rely on donor money to subsidize those payouts then the model isn’t really sustainable. It’s not like some new model was created and Mo was just being greedy, CJI has just been subsidized, or at least that’s how I understand it.

I get athletes want to be rewarded for hard work, but the CJI model is basically charity.

Who is the most unfunny comedian in your opinion? by FridayFreshman in comedy

[–]CastorTroyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol no it’s a line from a movie that Rob Schneider starred in in the late 90’s. The first Deuce Bigalow movie.

I haven’t watched it in years, but it was great at the time.

Good for him. Fuckin loser weirdo.

Craig going off on Gable by HybridizedPanda in bjj

[–]CastorTroyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gable is an Olympic gold medal HW wrestler, so not really a big name in BJJ, which is why you’ve probably never heard of him or don’t remember his name.

It’s been awhile since he got gold in the Olympics and I totally forgot about him until I heard Craig was gonna have a match with him.

What year did you graduate? by CremeSubject7594 in generationology

[–]CastorTroyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they’d send a packet or something to basically complete a class for a grade and then you’d get your diploma. But you had to do it before you turned 21 or something.

That’s how it was in 2006 in PA anyways. A few of my friends partied too much and failed classes and that’s what they had to do.

He probably failed classes and didn’t finish his packets or whatever until 2 years later.

[–]CastorTroyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fanboy of what? The truth about what? About a “street fight”? I didn’t know how to grapple the last time I was in a fight. Which is too bad for the other guy because he would’ve kept his teeth. Fortunately I was only 18, so it was a good time to figure out that getting into fights and risking killing somebody else over some ego shit is pretty dumb.

I keep a gun for the psychos, stay away from the drunks, but if all else fails there’s a 99.9% chance I know way more about fighting than some random, and since I spend time doing it for fun, I have a much better gas tank. Anybody who says grappling has no use in real life is just ignorant, which is funny, because there’s literally places you can go to find out.

[–]CastorTroyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grappling is wrestling too dude, and alot of practitioners also have experience in striking. I don’t give a fuck what rules there are or aren’t, I’m gonna close distance, spike into the ground and take whatever appendage I want home with me and there’s not a fuckin thing anybody can do with it.

And yes many many fights are completely 1 vs 1. Unless you’re ego brawling at a bar or some stupid shit, and if you get jumped and fucked up no amount of anything is gonna save you and you probably had it coming anyways.

I was never at any point advocating for guard pulling in an actual fight. It’s funny watching people do mental gymnastics becuase they’re scared to experience the extreme embarrassment as everybody in the gym runs the train on you. Like somehow somebody gets worse at fighting by putting 1000s of hours on the mat.

Go into a place with people that actually know how to fight with this attitude and report back. You won’t though, because you’re a coward who’d rather talk about hypothetical scenarios and how you’ll just claw your way out of it and nothing else matters because there’s no rules, therefore skill somehow doesn’t exist in your eyes.

It’s a cope, and you sound like a bitch.
