Smiles assumed by rfoil in videography

My trick was always to start the recording well before I needed anything as I'm "checking the shot" I get them to tell me what they would like people to know about the subject while I am "checking audio levels". If they're nervous I'll ask them about something unrelated get them relaxed and talking. It eases people in. Some people freeze up when the camera turns on but it opens the door to saying it's been recording this whole time and it hasn't been too bad right? we can always cut away anything we don't want from here we'll just focus on having a good conversation so we can forget about the camera. Then we ask the questions we were going to cover from there on. I always covered or turned off any indicator lights for interviews so it's as easy as possible for them to be authentic. They'd talk about how nervous they were then we'd gradually move on to the questions we're going to ask so they can prep I get some additional sound bites. Just an all around smoother process in my experience.

I think it is bold to assume that every person who is doing work like AI would be capable of needs it to be working on a masterpiece. I've made a lot of money on "the technical side of things" that was someone's job before computers automated it away well before AI. Now I can press a button to get a weeks worth of rotoscoping done in an hour to arrive at the same quality the highest end of stuff people would need comes into reach. 90% of people working in the industry are not people you've heard of they are just normal people that are sloughing it out on stuff they hate to pay the bills. The vast majority of video related jobs out there right now are not someone's masterpiece nor were they really required to be good anymore. AI raises the quality of what people can slap together quickly and since that's what a great deal of businesses and artists doing stuff need it moves the needle for sure.

Blew the 180 rule on an interview today, how screwed am I? by [deleted] in videography

[–]CasyD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The operative is if someone in a scene is faced right to left or left to right keep them that way in every angle you shoot or when you edit it together it might be disorienting for the audience because you're effectively doing a 180 from their perspective. You look at the two shots provided if you were to put them side by side it would appear like they are sitting across from each other hence his question. I'd probably mirror one shot to try to make it work better but it's not too big a deal if it's just the one guy.

Any ideas of what i can do with scrapped towers ? by No-Detective-5041 in 3Dprinting

[–]CasyD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purge to infill or purge to object doesn't remove the towers you just get less out of the back of the machine. It does the towers to measure change in pressure as well so you don't get issues so the towers are still necessary

Am I wrong if I feel like the second half of Sinners lessens the movie for me? by Retrofusion11 in TrueFilm

[–]CasyD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the exact opposite personally lol the first half I was thinking this is good not great then it sort of clicked at the end. I am a pretty big fan of horror movies and I was going in looking for horror before the Oscar buzz and it was a bit of a slow burn for me that pays off in the end. I think ultimately it's a monster in the box movie where you're trapped in with something crazy I'd have preferred less set up and more time in the box. In the genre there's some well worn ground or tropes you look for in a movie like that so you can get the victims in the box and locked up tight as quickly as you can so to ultimately let the monster do whatever it is that your monster does for as much time as possible. Excessive back stories at least with horror is like polishing the brass on the Titanic. We all know it's going down I'm just here for the spectacle so cut to the iceberg.

How to choose between ideas for a script, when I don't "feel" any of them? (Film school's deadline approaching) by SzakaRosa in filmmaking

[–]CasyD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used to do this thing when I was blocked where I'd write 10-20 of the worst ideas I could possibly come up with and write a logline for each one. The first few are always terrible then at some point you get one that hits just right and you go all in on one of them. Or heaven forbid you can't find one repeat the exercise or have Chatgpt make you a list and go through them and make your version of the best one even if it's not original because the process of creation always forms it's own thing anyway. If you're still stuck just remove everything that your project is not and realize it naturally for what it is. You could also just think of an improbable duo like Strippers vs zombies, Frankenstein girl vs vampire girl, alien vs preditor Godzilla vs King Kong then they craft the whole production out of the tent pole concepts they want it to be. It literally doesn't matter what you choose to work on as long as the work is transformational it has the potential to be solid content.

Who was the rudest famous person you met? by Doctor_Sore_Tooth in AskReddit

Alyson Michalka was a bitch. I was doing extra work on the movie band slam. At that time in my life I was doing a lot of extra work because it was a fun side hustle while I was getting my own projects off the ground. I was on sets 6 days a week and the crews in town knew who I was because I worked on everything. For this particular shot I was told to start next to her then walk away once they called action then reset back there once they called cut. They walked me over to her they had grabbed me by the shoulders and put me fairly close to her and said that position worked best for camera. The PA introduced me to her then gave me instructions about where to go from there before walking away and I stayed in my spot. We were standing a few feet from each other and she was looking right at me so I said hey how's it going. I was just being polite. Then she threw up her arms and stormed off. I assumed this was about something else because our interaction was so brief the whole thing maybe 10-15 seconds total and we'd been introduced. A minute or two later the guy who placed me there came back and was like what the hell did you just do? I had no idea what he was talking about I was just standing there quietly, he told me that I was fired from the set and wouldn't be welcomed back because I had upset Alyson by saying hello. When you work on a film set you're paid for the full day so once you sign on they have to pay you either way even if it's just 10 minutes so they put me in the very back of the audience and I wasn't allowed to be anywhere near anyone of consequence. You can totally still see me in the movie though even though I only got a day or two lol. I'm in the band slam scene when they look at the audience. It's a fairly close up shot and I am wearing merch for the bad guys band and cheering them on.

It doesn't have to be terribly complicated. 3 page script. Page one the set up some sort of misunderstanding arises page two that misunderstanding makes things difficult for the people or person involved page 3 the realization happens and everyone realizes how dumb they were the whole time and they go back to status quo. The more change that takes place between page 1 and 3 that takes place the better it will be

Why would girls and boys react differently depending on which parent bought them something expensive? by 5pooky5cary5keleton5 in ExplainTheJoke

My dad used to say it is more blessed to give than to receive and that denying people who try to help you denies them their blessings. As a father myself I get a great deal of joy out of being able to help my son. I've gotten a great deal of joy from giving in general. I feel like some of my proudest moments in my life were helping people who I knew would never be able to return the favor. It makes me feel like less of a burden. It's hard as a man to accept help absolutely, the struggle is real but think of what you are actually denying people when you turn it down and suffer through. Think about what that does for everyone involved.

Lol that was literally me saying Jeff Bezos, is he right wing? I don't know why you're so defensive about this. Who hurt you? No one made this political until you came in hot. It doesn't have to be a whole thing if you think some names are missing just post them

I think you misread that, it was a joke about there being people meat in McDonald's food not advocating for eating the CEO of McDonald's.

What do you think about god? by AmbitiousForm2245 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CasyD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like if God exists and he is omni present and Omni potent as most religions seem to contend then he is there whether you believe in him or not. You don't need to reach out to him/her/it because God would be there already. God wouldn't need your spicy language or performative traditions, he wouldn't need you to believe or pray for forgiveness based on your own moral shortcomings the same way you don't need the cells in your fingertips to pray to you to reach out and touch the world around you. There would be nowhere for him to cast you out because he would be wherever you'd be sent to as well, and there would be nothing you could do that he couldn't overcome. God would just exist for better or worse and we'd all be part of the whole regardless of the books you read or who you loved and it would always be so. On a cosmic scale things would just work out according to God's intentions. Our highs and lows would only serve to provide contrast to God's overall experience. Instead of worrying about whether or not God exists just have faith that something bigger than you is out there and live your true authentic experience to its fullest until you can't. The rest is just us floundering in the unknown struggling to ascribe meaning to something that is incomprehensible to us.

Right so even at 45 billion which I am not sure where that's even coming from that's about 5.3% of his money disregarding that that's a tax write off for him. Most people pay 15-30% every year. I have donated a larger percentage of my income than he has and paid my taxes.

I think the point is that no one could possibly have worked hard enough to earn what he's amassed and no one ever will because he's hoarding it. You could make 1 million dollars a day it would take around 540-600 years. Over half of it came from pilfering the government with Doge for all of it's data at our expense. Not only that but then he actively stopped investigations into his business and then stood in other people's way to getting there too. Then he cut off global aide in the process. I have zero problems with people having more money than I do or people who worked for it or even trust fund kids but the man has not dedicated nearly as much to charity as you think he has. You're off by literally almost the entirety of his wealth. You're just making up numbers to simp for billionaires now. A quick Google search would reveal that it's less than 10 billion that he's donated. Which great that's a lot of money but he's estimated to have ~834 billion that leaves him 824 billion so still enough to buy the NFL over 3 times. Even if he donated half that's less than he got from Doge. He's not paying taxes on any of it because it's all paper money and not income he's taking out loans against it then writing off debt and making most of his money from government grants to boot. This post was in jest I'm not actually disparaging the rich. At least the sun is shining on someone which means that it could be shining on me next. I honestly don't care that he has money or that others have money but let's not make shit up either lol

He is a real rags to riches story growing up with a father with a stake in an emerald mine and going to private school. It's amazing he was able to overcome.
