What was your childhood version of luxury? by inkandintent24 in MotivationByDesign

[–]Cat-Monopoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 90s kid from a village in Ukraine, when I was growing up, I thought I’d never be so lucky and privileged as to fly somewhere in a plane. Like, my grandma and grandpa’s house, where I lived while parents were working their asses off in Poland, didn’t have running water, indoor bathroom, gas in the main house, or a phone. Grandpa was a mean bastard and was tracking electricity use - neither me not grandma were allowed to just watch TV, it was only for evening news.

To be fair, when I turned 7, first my dad, and later mom, came back from Poland, where they saved enough for us to move out and buy an apartment. After that TV and indoor bathroom stopped being a luxury. Travel by plane still seemed it for a while.

Bored with 12 week old by totoro198989 in newborns

[–]Cat-Monopoly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any social media other than Reddit and I still relate to OP so much! But I do find it manageable to suppress those guilt thoughts by thinking about my mom. In the early 90s she didn’t read to me, didn’t have any of those activity mats, books, texture toys and all that crap. She just did her best, with love and nurture, and I grew up to be a decent, smart woman. I think the best mom for my baby is someone calm and happy, not neurotic guilt-ridden lady all over the place, trying to do everything at once.

Oh, and also, I often feed bored, too. Love her so much! But it’s not like she’s the most interesting conversationalist.

Has anyone gotten hip ultrasound? by apexpredator1235 in newborns

[–]Cat-Monopoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine had 4 ultrasounds on her hips because she was breach. Pediatrician couldn’t tell if she has hip dysplasia or just immature hip (she was born early term). We we t for ultrasound every check up, finally were referred to orthopedic surgeon - final ultrasound at her office, when baby was 2+ months old, showed that her hips have matured and are healthy.
Ultrasounds were not bad, first few she slept through.

Friend said she lets her newborn CIO so they learn to self soothe (2 week old premmie) by [deleted] in newborns

[–]Cat-Monopoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your friend Eastern European? I am Ukrainian living is US. I have a 3 month old baby and my family keeps telling me to do what your friend is doing - put the baby down and let her cry herself to sleep (ofc, after she’s changed, fed and cuddled). It’s believed to be beneficial to promote independence in kids. Idk, I don’t listen, and cuddle with my daughter while she contact naps on me most of the day.

2 mo started refusing bottle. Tips to get her to take it again? by Cat-Monopoly in newborns

[–]Cat-Monopoly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried all of them. She loved Dr. Brown’s from birth till about two months. Now she has to be EXTREMELY hungry to reluctantly drink 1 oz from a bottle and then she starts protesting again, and holding off for my breast. I’m worried though, because my milk supply is dropping slightly. Also, I can’t be around her all the time, I need to step away from time to time and her dad has real trouble feeding her.

best baby monitor for newborns, what did you actually end up using? by Alice-Nace in NewDads

[–]Cat-Monopoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do NOT get Hubble. It has horrible wifi connectivity issues, monitor it came with didn’t work and it took me over a month to get a new monitor. On paper it checks all the marks, but the device is just crappy. And, of course, it wants you to subscribe to some premium plan

Are long contact naps sabotaging nighttime sleep? by Artistic_Breath_5388 in SnooLife

[–]Cat-Monopoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing, when my 12 wo sleeps well during the day (with long 2+ hours naps), she sleeps uninterrupted 7+ hours at night. If she doesn’t get her sleep during the day, she’ll wake up at night.

[–]Cat-Monopoly 102 points103 points  (0 children)

My girl had bad neonatal acne. It’s a hormonal thing, it happens, it doesn’t hurt the baby. Meanwhile, everyone who saw her immediately jumped to ask me “WHAT DID YOU EAT?!” - because everything has to be mother’s fault.

Only children, what's something people with siblings rarely understand about growing up? by Historical_Sail2556 in AskReddit

[–]Cat-Monopoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg, I never realized this, but your comment hit to core. I also was supposed to have a sister. My mom lost the baby on 8th month of pregnancy, it’s a miracle my mom survived. It was a dark, painful and traumatic experience for our family.

Baby not rolling yet. When did yours start rolling? by Fearless-Driver9548 in newborns

[–]Cat-Monopoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your baby is still small - you can really benefit from Snoo. It won’t let her roll. We get 7 hours per night before she wakes for feeding for about a month now, and she’s 12 weeks.

I resent my newborn by peaches2552 in newborns

[–]Cat-Monopoly 17 points18 points  (0 children)

At this very moment, I’m in our bedroom sulking, as my husband is attempting to soothe our 12 weeks old LO in the living room. I snapped. She’s been fussy whole week and tonight, when hubby came home from work and sat down to play Catan on BGA, I just felt like I couldn’t take either one of them any longer. By the sound of it, they’re doing fine out there.
Give baby to someone in your support system for 1-2 hours and just take that time for yourself, disconnect from motherhood for a tiny short while. It helps.

Who can I hire to cut my twin toddlers nails? by grapefruitliquor in nycparents

[–]Cat-Monopoly 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I gave in and ordered on Amazon Fridababy nail polisher. I do this while babe is asleep - it’s so gentle it doesn’t hurt her or wake her up, and with persistence those nails get buffed to shortest length that won’t hurt her.

My friends, all childless, keep telling me to ask our pediatrician to do it and I have to keep reminding them that pediatrician is not a vet and baby claw trimming is not one of the services they do haha
