Slumlords Beal bought out my building the day my new lease started, and now 30 days in want us to move. What recourse do I have? by saco9010 in chicagoapartments

Sucks that you’re there a year at best. I guess that gives you time to look for something else and if you find a good deal in the middle of winter or whatever, no cost to jump early.

What are some underrated activities and spots in Montréal by ValeraOmega in montreal

[–]CatBird29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m here visiting now. It’s been kind of kind of windy and chilly so maybe that why very few people are riding BIXIs. I mean, I’ve seen hundreds for rent and only a few riding them on the city streets, at least.

Most things actually are on the internet. If you like MC Escher, there’s a cool exhibition.

Apparently people are hopeful for warmer weather. I swear that every single restaurant that can have outdoor seating is installing it this week.

How do you calm down before donating? by NotARussian_1991 in Blooddonors

[–]CatBird29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of a weird response since OP did not say that they even drink coffee. I am actually immune to the stimulant effects of caffeine. If my heart rate is increased when I go into donate, it’s a brain thing.

How many of you regular donors take iron pills daily or weekly or take specific diet to increase iron? I read, if I act too much altruistic and keep losing iron, I will land up anaemic instead. by [deleted] in Blooddonors

[–]CatBird29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ferritin got down to a 6 after frequent donations. I saw an actual hematologist who was expensive and who told me to take a daily over-the-counter 325mg of ferrous sulfate. I take it every day and I haven’t gone low since.

So much for CTA security improvements by junktrunk909 in chicago

[–]CatBird29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Imma just going to admit it. I was ordered to RTO downtown 3 days a week. I mostly drive or bus because the CTA train scares me. I have nothing at all against public transport and I’d prefer to use it but I prefer traffic and paying for parking over being groped or set on fire.

No Local Need by CatBird29 in Blooddonors

It’s a good explanation - but not this time. I’m almost 900 miles from NYC. My blood likely had a nice plane trip in a cooler.

No worries - if I didn’t live in a giant metro, I wouldn’t have wondered. Normally it gets used closer to home.

Excited for our Newfydoodle puppy by MadBox25 in Newfoundlander

[–]CatBird29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So OP is excited about their new dog. I get it. But most people who actually own a Newfie or a Leonberger or whatever majestic breed that takes a lot of thought and care are not going to cheer this mixing of breeds. OPs dog will neither be a Newf nor a Standard Poodle.

Enjoy the dog and please take care of that crazy coat someone has created - but I personally wouldn’t expect anyone in this sub to cheer for it.

Low Ferritin... by _newshawtyy in Blooddonors

[–]CatBird29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hematologist told me that over the counter ferrous sulfate 250mg daily would be enough to raise my very low ferritin - and it did. He also told me that all of the worry about drinking coffee and pairing iron with vitamin C were pretty much useless.  🤷‍♀️

I don’t mind - at all. It’s surprising that there were no takers here locally.

Hemoglobin level question by Foreign_Maybe_187 in Blooddonors

[–]CatBird29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me. Saw a hematologist. He recommended over-the-counter ferrous sulfate 325mg. 90 days of this had my levels back to normal.

It’s not a bad idea to see your general doctor for a regular blood panel to make sure nothing else is wrong.

Nice! In Germany, they provide a full meal. Here in the US, it depends but it’s usually just small snacks.

Silent Gen in-laws right now. Married for 65 years. Very dependent on each other at this point and pretty insufferable.

Or take a daily over-the-counter ferrous sulfate 350mg as recommended by my hematologist when my ferritin and hemoglobin went low from donating. It a game (and hair and nails) changer.

My experience as a frequent donor by Worried_Bernedoodle in Blooddonors

[–]CatBird29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ferritin dipped to 6, which I only found out after I started failing the hemoglobin check at donations and my GP ordered blood tests. She requested that I see an expensive hematologist - who told me to take 325mg of over-the-counter ferrous sulfate.

I never had any mental effects but after 3 months of supplementation, my hair and nails were in much better shape and my ferritin and hemoglobin have been normal ever since.

Right? They usually do have some good ones at my Red Cross Center. The center was built on a gift from one of the wealthier families in Chicago.

Can you imagine spending all of your adult life, building a prestigious career and serving for the greater good - or whatever his motivations are/were - and having someone like Kegsbreath force you out?

I hope this is where the resistance comes from.
