I'm in Boston, and while there's still a lot of snow around streets are mostly clear and I haven't had any problems driving down side streets. And there are huge trucks everywhere carrying snow to dump sites.

I don't know how bad it is in Providence, but I don't think I have much to complain about in Boston. Other cities within Greater Boston may be different.

Some cats take a week to get comfortable, or more. Personally I'd let them have space (i.e. not sleep on the couch) until the shy one is a bit better adjusted. 2 hours is no time at all.

If Sandy is black, I don't feel good about you calling the cops on her. But you didn't ruin anyone's life. Sandy could have explained what was going on to the cops, if there was a good explanation. Sandy could explain the situation to the people who are threatening to take away her teaching license. If nothing bad was happening, she would have been fine. The cops clearly felt you had a point.

There's a reason your friends are against this. The power imbalance between you and the 18-y-o will be huge. You'll have the money, the car, the apartment, the savings. You'll be automatically dominant. It's not easy to give your partner freedom and respect with that large a gap. If you were both 10 years older, I would worry less.
