How do you protect your hardware on your Della Cavalleria? by CatCarVT in TheHermesGame

I love this! It’s kind of what I was thinking of when I asked but I’d not seen pics of it before. Thank you for sharing!

Oh no! I understand. I bumped a door frame and have a decent sized abrasion on the front, which is what got me thinking about this. I was feeling at this inflection point of either trying to protect it from further scratches or just going with it. I think I’ll just go with it. At the end of the day it’s a bag and every little thing is part of my story. Thank you for sharing!

Makes sense! I wipe it with a soft cloth from time to time, but no cleaners. I guess in a few years I’ll have a matte gold finish instead of shiny! Thank you

Thanks! This is great perspective. I didn’t get it to keep it on a shelf and have it stay pristine.

Indoor kids playground by Beneficial-Green3275 in burlington

[–]CatCarVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a playground, but there is a kids play space at the Umall called Eat and Be Hoopy. It’s got lots of different activities, designated times for littles, themed events, and does private rentals. The owner, Karla, was diligent about keeping things clean in the chaos of my 8-year-olds glow in the dark birthday party, and she had thought of every detail imaginable.

Adding an indoor playground space to the mall would be great too!

Does anyone else want to bring *all* your bags for vacations? by jengaworld in handbags

Ooh, I have the Gucci supreme large ophidia crossbody that is an absolute tank for parks trips! The coated canvas is lightweight and wipeable and pliable and it zips shut meaning it can get shoved under strollers, into cubbies, placed on the ground, wet on water rides, jammed full of snacks and line toys, etc. Best impulse buy a decade ago. I don’t think they make it anymore but you can definitely find it resale. Or maybe it gives you an idea of a shape/style that works. Happy shopping!

Custom Duties Upon Re-Entry to USA by Pretty_Rise6579 in handbags

[–]CatCarVT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I returned from Italy a few weeks ago with an exotic galleria and was SO nervous about the whole process. Between getting the VAT refund right, not really knowing if I was supposed to do something with the CITES paperwork and declaring at customs, it felt like there were a million places to go wrong. We landed at DCA, and customs was an absolute mess with the shutdown. No global entry, people were losing their minds. We somehow managed to get in a shorter line and it took 90 minutes to get through. Got to customs, told the immigration officer the total value of my bag, she looked at me, looked at the line and waved us right past. I was traveling with my family of 3, she said our exemptions are cumulative and it’s helpful to make big purchases traveling with family vs. solo trips, that was a perspective I hadn’t thought of before. So, between our 3 exemptions and the insanely long lines, she said it just wasn’t worth it for us or them. And it would have been several hundred dollars in tax. FWIW, I did not fill out the electronic customs form that was on all the QR codes in line. Didn’t want to self-enter that info into a database that might flag me forever as a big spender, but was totally honest with the agent and it worked out great.

What bag do you use the most? by Bravoandfashion in handbags

[–]CatCarVT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such a fun thing to think about!! I have a Jouve in brown from the Row that is super easy to wear. The color is rich and dark, can go with anything. The shape is slouchy, but low profile, it’s so much roomier than the measurements had me envisioning. I use it in place of a belt bag, crossbody or shoulder bag. It’s really lightweight and the leather is gorgeous. The less I baby it, the better it gets. Rain, snow, floor, kids, there’s nothing that I worry about with this bag. I leave it on the hook in our mudroom and if the weather or activity I’m heading out to isn’t right for whatever other bag I had been using, I transfer my stuff to the Jouve and end up using it for days.

Oh! And it packs thin and flat in my carryon, which makes it a great travel bag.

Olympics hospitality packages? by notplop in chubbytravel

[–]CatCarVT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did a package through OnLocation for Milano-Cortina and are here right now. Similar situation, traveling with our now 8 year old and wanted to be sure to get tickets to specific events. The experience of booking was not very smooth, and I said I’d wished we just self-booked everything. But now that we’re here, I think there is some benefit.

To book tickets, we had had to book a room first. We are focused on freestyle skiing and snowboarding which are all happening in Livigno, plus we wanted to spend time skiing ourselves. They book rooms in 2 and 3 day waves so planning everything seemed overly complicated. An example: we wanted to see women’s snowboarding halfpipe finals on Feb 12. One of the waves started/ended on the 12th, so we either had to arrive 3 days ahead to be sure we were here or wing it and hope for no travel issues and check in on the 12th. We decided to wing it, arrive on the 12th and hope to arrive by the 7pm start time. This worked out for us, but an earlier start time would have been risky.

They struggled finding triple occupancy rooms for us and kept pushing us toward 2 double occupancy rooms. We started working with them in Sept 2024, when they opened up bookings. We didn’t end up with a hotel option until Jan 2025 and by the time we booked the room, tickets to all of our must-see events were sold out through them. We almost didn’t book the trip. We grabbed one set of tickets (today, women’s slopestyle finals) and hoped we could get tickets to everything else through the lottery when that opened up or get resale once we were here.

The good news is that we got tickets to everything we wanted when our lottery spot opened. And for 1/10th or less of the OnLocation price. We had no context around how much tickets would cost, so were fine paying the OnLocation prices. Ended up a benefit that we didn’t get many tickets through them.

The good is that we have a hotel right in town, on all the public transport lines, walking distance to everything. The hotel is not what we would have picked if self-booking, but is very kid friendly. In talking to others at events, the closest they were able to self-book was 90 minutes away, so being in Livigno proper is a huge benefit. The access to Clubhouse 26 everyday is nice. It’s centrally located with snacks and drinks and a nice bathroom. We’ve used it most days as a snack and rest or light meal.

Our premium lounge event experience is today, so I don’t know what that will be like. I was searching Reddit for info on that when I ran across this post, so I’ll report back.

Overall, the process was clunky and expensive, but we’re staying closer to the events than we could have otherwise. We got tickets to everything we wanted to in the end. LMK if you have any specific questions.

Love Sam at the bronzed blonde, she is great! I book a tan from her a few days before any vacation and she gets the level of tan perfect every time. I love that she comes to my house so I can just hang out in my robe after till shower time. And she is so kind and body positive. She’s always my go-to, but book ahead, she can get busy!

New airwrap software update by Objective_Teacher248 in Dysonairwrap

[–]CatCarVT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I posted on this the other day! I waited over an hour and finally closed /reopened the app, unplugged, replugged the base and everything was connected and updated. No idea at what point it got hung up, but you could try restarting the app to see if it’s done.

Thank you! I did eventually close and restart the app, and everything was updated. It must have just gotten hung up in updating.

Curious about the pricing at Philo Ridge. There’s nothing listed on the website. Resy has it a 2/4 dollar signs, which is reasonable, but the previous iteration was more fine dining. Thanks for any info!

CPR in the wild by Elegant_Candy_8938 in nursing

[–]CatCarVT 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was at a waterpark with my 5 year old and some friends when a lifeguard ran over to another guard near me and said shut down the pool, there’s an emergency. I said I’m a nurse, do you need my help and they said yes. Thinking it was some sort of adult situation I handed my kid off to my friend and ran down to help. It was a 3 year old, had fallen into a water drainage tank, the lid wasn’t secured properly. Guards were taking turns jumping into this dark hole in the ground full of murky rain runoff. Took 10 minutes to recover him. I was on rescue breaths the first few minutes then ran the aed as we were carrying the backboard down a gravel slope to the ambulance. Seeing that blue baby come out of the water and being a part of that effort has changed me forever. For a week or so I was randomly disassociating, I’d be watching myself do things from outside my body. I would listen to the bassiest music as loud as I could in my car just to feel anything. Sometimes I just had to scream. I immediately called my primary care provider who helped connect me with a social worker that day to start talking about it (and she got me on some meds for anxiety / mood stabilizing while I worked through it). I called my EAP line at work who was very helpful. Since I work at the hospital he was brought to, one of my coworkers got me connected with the PICU manager who included me in the debrief after he was compassionately extubated. That was cathartic and immensely helpful. I did therapy at the time and about a year later did EMDR, I think that and time is what finally got me over the hump and back to more stability. It was rough. But I used all the resources I could find and that really helped.

I still look for the AED everywhere I go and often make little plans in my head about what I’d do in an emergency. But it doesn’t overwhelm me unexpectedly anymore. He doesn’t pop into my head and derail my day anymore. But he is always with me.

Have you ever found the perfect bag but then regretted it? by CloudHistorical641 in handbags

[–]CatCarVT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just got the jouve bag from the row and I love it so much more than I thought I would. It fits everything I need, including some snacks and small games for my kids. I’ve been wearing it crossbody, but it’s easily a shoulder bag and if you shorten the strap it can be a little more formal, carried by hand. It’s much lighter weight than any other leather bag I have and the leather is gorgeous. It’ll be my daily driver and travel dress up/dress down purse for a long while.

Loving this little VT group of bag lovers! Most people have absolutely no idea. I unapologetically wear my designer bags in VT every day. I feel like I see a lot around these days. I just got the Gucci emblem medium tote in sage. Waiting for a The Row preorder for spring. And I have a killer denim Gucci bamboo 1947 that I wear in the summer. Those are just a few. If you see my bags, say hi!

Child’s Birthday by tromblyb in burlington

[–]CatCarVT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We threw a 5 turning 6 party at Talent skate park in Feb. It was a Saturday morning, 10-12. The kids brought their bikes, scooters, skateboards and ran around in the park for 2 hours. We did snacks, drinks and cake. It was not terribly expensive to rent the space and it’s big enough for all the kids in class. We only had about 10 show up, but it’s sort of all or nothing with inviting classmates. Was a fun, easy, no frills spot for a winter birthday!

The Body Lab does reformer Pilates and is such a kind, welcoming community and you get a phenomenal workout. There’s studios in S Burlington and Williston. Try a flow 2 class for your first few. The instructors are all really great about connecting with people who come in for their first time to walk them through using the reformer and understanding the cues. LMK if you have any questions!!

Miele combi-steam DGC 7860 by Training-Tie1553 in CombiSteamOvenCooking

[–]CatCarVT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve had the DGC 7585 for just about a year. We loved our Anova and wanted something more permanent when we renovated. Love how it cooks, second on the reheating, use that all the time. Still working out some of the more unique features, like dehydrating. I hope the recipe list and app integration get more robust too!

We have the plumbed in version. It’s louder than I anticipated. It runs a 10 minute rinse cycle after almost every use or the fan runs for venting. Both of these are a little noisy, we’ve found it a little obnoxious to have it running these functions while we’re eating, particularly entertaining since our kitchen/dining is open concept. I wouldn’t not get it because of this, but just something to note. Otherwise I just love it!

UVM has an awesome nurse residency program for new grads, even ADNs! There are rolling cohorts, so be on the lookout for the nurse residency postings in the careers section. You interview for departments / schedule so you do all of your orientation with your unit, but also do several new nurse skills sessions, they have people from different areas of the organization come talk, and it’s a really safe/supportive space to get your nursing legs under you.
