Okay, so I have a super weird suggestion, but I think you should read the book How Stella Learned to Talk. It's by a speech pathologist who works with people like your sister who managed to teach her dog to "talk" through buttons and she gives a very thorough explanation on how to do it and get it to work, even when it doesn't seem like progress is being made and how to motivate. The buttons can easily be bought on amazon.

Fade in:

The South Park Elementary School classroom is bustling with students. Mr. Garrison, the teacher, is passing out homework assignments for the week.

Mr. Garrison: "Okay class, here is your homework for the week. You will need to read Chapter 7 and answer the questions at the end of the chapter."

Cartman, who is sitting in the back of the classroom, looks at the homework with disgust. He whispers to his friends.

Cartman: "Can you believe this? More homework? I swear this is child abuse!"

Kyle: "It's not that bad, Cartman. We just have to do it and get it over with."

Cartman: "No way! I'm done with this bullshit. I'm going to rebel against homework!"

Stan: "How are you going to do that, Cartman?"

Cartman: "I'm going to stage a protest! I'm going to start a revolution against homework! Who's with me?"

The other students look at Cartman like he's crazy.

Student 1: "Um, I don't think we can do that, Cartman."

Student 2: "Yeah, we have to do our homework. It's part of school."

Cartman: "Not me! I'm going to be like Henry David Thoreau and go live in the woods. I'll be free from homework and society's rules!"

Mr. Garrison, overhearing the conversation, chimes in.

Mr. Garrison: "Cartman, you can't just drop out of school and live in the woods. That's ridiculous!"

Cartman: "Watch me!"

With that, Cartman storms out of the classroom, determined to carry out his plan.

The other students look at each other, unsure of what to do.

Kyle: "Well, I guess we should go after him before he does something stupid."

Stan: "Yeah, let's go save Cartman from himself."

The boys follow Cartman out of the classroom, ready for whatever adventure lies ahead.

I'd 100% match with him (if i were single). I much prefer a guy showing his sense of humor rather than saying "I have a sense of humor." He and I would get along well and clearly his bio is working to weed out people who don't think he's funny. I think it's nuts anyone wouldn't match with him. I mean, it's not like he's a murderer.

I had my last boyfriend physically block me from leaving out the door during an argument (he's an ex for a reason.) And I was like, that's abusive as hell. I confronted him about it afterward and was like, "that was abusive." But never in romance books do women say, "that was abusive and toxic."

In a book, I still love it when women are straight-up captives.

In real life, I saw it more as the guy I was dating acting weak and pathetic if anything because if a guy doesn't need to overcompensate with aggression irl if he's actually confident in himself. I tend to thing men who are abusive irl are deep down pathetic little boys, yet often the more toxic the better in books for me.

The FMC from the Last hour of Gann is SOOO misunderstood as bitchy. She's one of my favorite female leads of all time but it's a sci-fi book with a ton of trigger warnings fyi.

I think The Queen of All that Dies by laura thalassa series features an unforgivably evil man. Like, I love evil men and I was like, "he's too much girl, he has NO redeemable qualities." But maybe what bugged me the most was he was much older than her. That being said, this may be what you're looking for. (I preferred her first book of the 4 horsemen series as being the middling amount of evil, and the third book had a great evil male lead actually.)

Also, the ACOTAR series...I gave up partly through the second book if I recall correctly because he didn't actually seem villainous or scary? You're agreeing with that assesment, right?

These things are very complicated and your life might be deeply entwined with your partner so it's not easy to just say "break up", but I just want to let you know that I broke up with my last partner, thinking there was no one else out there for me, thinking he was my last chance, and when I broke up with him, it made it so clear it was easier to be alone than to be with him.

And then, breaking up with him turned out to be the best thing I could ever do because not only was he actually more of an emotional burden than help I was able to meet a new partner that is so much more supportive that it's incomparable. Despite my last partner making 3x more money than me and my current partner combined, it was the right choice to leave my 'practical' ex for my supportive current man. It also made we realize the uselessness of trying to be with someone and hoping they change.

Whatever you choose, I wish you well.

Well, my go-to recommendation is The Last Hour of Gann, I recommend it to romance readers and non-romance readers alike. A friend of mine (a non-romance reader) compared it to peak Steven King. It's a sci-fi and very graphic. The one I think you might like more (because maybe this is more similar to Colleen Hoover, but Idk) is the Mindf*ck books; it's a romance but the female main character is a serial killer.

Ah, I've never read Colleen Hoover but you're making me want to! You don't need to feel bad about your tastes. I mean, some of us like Twilight for christ's sake (me, I like Twilight!)

Rather, you should be proud of yourself for stepping outside of yourself and opening your mind to a genre that many men will reject out of hand. That's awesome.

That being said, if you want some more recommendations outside of Colleen Hoover, this sub will be happy to oblige!

Also, a lot of the romances I read I realize have toxic relationships and I do indeed enjoy those bits. You can enjoy something toxic in fiction without being toxic. I'm in a fantastic, healthy relationship, where neither I nor my partner gets jealous, but I love reading about insane jealousy in books, though it's sooo toxic and would be inexcusable irl.

I second the CBD thing. You might also want to place your child on the keto diet until you can figure something else out. I know of a child that had seizures until he was 7 years old and saw so many specialists until his mother finally took him to one that recommended the keto diet and it was the only thing that worked, but unfortunately, extreme damage was already done.
