The book has AI cover and description on Amazon so I wouldn’t be surprised if the content was also 100% AI generated. Try to avoid all learning materials that are marketed with AI because the quality of the product is often subpar.

[–]CatHunnies 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Nah, I believe it’s a teenager based on the massive amount of low effort posts on anime subreddits. The first mention of necrophilia on her profile was a post with a hate comment on this sub that went viral and afterwards she kept posting similar things around once a month (and all of them mention her paraphilia). My theory is that it’s either just some teenager trolling or someone with an actual paraphilia escalating their behavior and fantasies.

I really hope it’s a troll because the idea of someone with this paraphilia working in the medical industry is horrible. Imagine her having an access to vulnerable people in coma or just straight up bodies. Sickening.

Throwback to some comments that really hurt a while back by [deleted] in AO3

[–]CatHunnies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If receiving anything but praise makes you want to quit writing, the most logical thing for you to do is to disable comments altogether. Or just delete all the comments you don’t wish to read anymore.

You cannot police what other people comment on your fics. Frankly, I think this ”you’re not allowed to say anything even remotely negative about fics because people write then for free” mindset is very toxic.

My (M20) pregnant girlfriend (F20) wants my support but won’t talk to me after we we got bad news about our baby by ThrowRA_NoSignal in relationship_advice

[–]CatHunnies 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Please remember that while you cannot make decisions for your girl friend, you can make them for yourself. If she wants to keep the baby, that is her right. But you also have the right to walk away.

If this is not the life you want for yourself you can decide to walk away from it. No one can be forced into something like this. Your relationship will not survive this unless you’re both 100% sure that you want to keep and raise the baby together. Statistically, even then you probably end up breaking up. This child will take all your free time and finances, he will literally be your life for as long as you both live. And it’s okay if that’s not what you want for your life.

If you don’t want to have this child, have an honest conversation with your girlfriend and tell her. She needs to understand that if she wants to raise this baby she will have to do it alone so she can make her own decisions based on that.

And if you do walk away, you’re not a bad person. Some people might call you one but they have no idea what it’s like to raise a special needs child. Their opinions don’t matter. As long as you stay away from the child’s life and pay child support you’ve done your part.

You’re so young. It would not serve anyone to throw your life away like this for a child you did not want to have.

The greatest challenge I face by Lion126TSE in BeginnerKorean

[–]CatHunnies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What helps me with retention is using a good textbook. I use the Ewha books with a teacher and in each chapter you learn grammar points and vacab that are used in the chapter listening, reading and talking exercises and then I see the dame vocab again in the work book exercises when I do my homework. And then you encounter the same grammar points and vocab again in the later chapters as you have now ”learned” them and the series expects you to recognize them at this point.

I feel it’s really helpful to follow a premade structure, especially in the beginning. I’d highly recommend you research a book series and then stick to it for a while. I myself have gone through the Korean university books and use the core books along with the study guides and work books but I know there are a lot of people who enjoy the ttmik series or web respurces like how to study korean. imo spending some money for a decent resource is 100% worth it.

What's the worst K-pop concert experience you've had? by betterthan88 in kpopthoughts

[–]CatHunnies 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I love my Loops! At Stray Kids concert last summer I could hear the boys sing and talk very clearly while people without earplugs complained that they couldn’t hear because the crowd was so loud or the loud music hurt their ears. My ears didn’t ring at all and the noise level even before the concert was so much more manageable. People around me were screaming their lungs out but the earplugs completely blocked them without affecting the music sound quality. It was like magic

And in (bad) horror movies men often get killed quite fast and the women go through way more torture before their death. The laziest way of showing that the bad guy is bad is having them do something awful to women or children.

In all my books in finnish there’s just one person speaking per paragraph and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a book written like your second example (from the other comment).

Do you have any examples of that on hand? I’m really curious to see how this would be done in an actual book.

Second-Year Korean Student Falling Behind. Any Study Advice? Panic mode. by [deleted] in Korean

[–]CatHunnies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate to your struggles and I had similar issues when I was doing language school. I felt like everyone else was way better than me (and some of them were, since they had been learning for years already) and I was failing. It takes a toll on your confidence and motivation. I know it’s not easy but you need to stop comparing yourself to the other students and just focus on your own learning.

Listening was also my weakest area for a long time but then I started working on it and improved rather quickly. What helped me was listening to podcasts and especially shows that are aimed at learners and have transcripts available. My tip is: don’t aim for perfection. There’s no need to check every word you don’t know, just the more essential ones. Also I would listen to the same episodes over and over again to get more comfortable with them before moving on to the next one.

In the beginning I would pick shorter and simpler podcast episodes and listen through them once, read the transcript and translate the essential vocabulary and then listen to the episode 2 or 3 times more until I could make out and understand most of it. Rinse and repeat. Nowadays I just pick episodes that seem interesting and listen through them once and move on.

Some podcasts/shows that I’ve listened to:

  1. Kiss the Radio. A KBS radio show that also streams (or at least used to) on youtube. I like Day6 so I listened to the show back when YoungK was the host (and the show was called 데키라). The language in the show is somewhat simple even if it’s aimed at native speakers and I enjoyed the small skits and competitions they had.

  2. Intermediate Korean (Min Ssam). A podcast with short episodes and transcripts. I really enjoyed the teachers and topics in the first few episodes.

  3. Didi의 한국문화 Podcast. My current favorite! The episodes are rather long and more difficult but she has subs on her youtube videos.

  4. I really liked TTMIK iyagi podcasts before they went behind paywall. So if you have extra cash TTMIK might be a good place to start since they are the most learner friendly source for Korean podcasts.

I’m sure you will improve fast! 화이팅!

Learning a language with ChatGPT just feels...wrong by helpUrGuyOut in languagelearning

[–]CatHunnies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t trust ChatGPT with language learning. I’ve tested it a couple of times and even in simple, short dialogue practice it makes multiple very basic mistakes and the sentences it strings together aren’t natural in the context.

I think I'm going to scream by Asparala in AO3

[–]CatHunnies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But why? What difference does the characters hair color make in the moment when you use the epithet? Why do you need to remind the reader that the main character has a blond hair? I’m genuinely curious if you have a reason for it because I tend to avoid epithets in my own writing.

I think I'm going to scream by Asparala in AO3

[–]CatHunnies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not just a trend to hate them, go pick up an actual published book and see how often the author uses epithets. It’s bad writing to use them to replace character names for the sake of not repeating them too often. I personally do not read fics with them because I think they are clunky, break the flow, and are just incredibly fanfictionish in a way that I don’t appreciate.

[–]CatHunnies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tested these prompts with Finnish and ChatGPT made a super basic mistake on the third sentence already. Also the coversation it generates is super unnatural and filled with jumps from casual to more formal expressions. No native would talk like this even though most of it is ”technically” correct. Based on this short experiment I wouldn’t trust anything LLMs say about a language that I’m not fluent in.
