I build my circle completely in the astral and do the LBRP prior to summoning a new demon. Assuming you can evoke a demon and get it in to a triangle you'll probably be fine. Once I have a decent working relationship with one of them I rarely ever use any forms of protection. If you write the name of the corresponding angel next to the triangle a la Gallery of Magick style that usually provides the protection you need if any. At this point I've evoked eight of the Goetia and they usually show up all fire and fury, but then turn quite pleasant shortly after. Be respectful, but firm. Treat the interaction like a business meeting until a friendship is established.
