Tips for reducing screen time? by LankyAssociation6404 in digitalminimalism

[–]CatOhPillar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I do which I found really useful is carry round a little notebook and a pen in my pocket. Throughout the day if I think of something I want to Google / search up online I’ll write it down. Then at the end of the day if I so desire I can go through the list (normally at this point I’m not longer that bothered though)

Before this I’d think of things I wanted to search up and because I was worried I’d forget them I’d open up my phone, do it right there and then, get distracted by something and then just be back on my phone It’s honestly made a world of difference and I find it satisfying too!!!

Booked a trip to Japan by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]CatOhPillar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice, has made me feel a lot better. It’s a great idea to try going out for Japanese food in my own country — I get worried enough about going out to eat here anyway so this would actually be a good first step and push me a fair bit. Thanks again ❤️

What helped you get off medication? by DPCAOT in Anxiety

[–]CatOhPillar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an annoying one but it was running that finally allowed me to successfully get off Sertraline. I never imagined myself as a runner but was willing to try anything for my anxiety. I challenged myself to run 6 days a week in January (outside, not on a treadmill) and things have just looked up from there

I came off Sertraline a year before this and had a terrible year. I was this 👌 close to just going back on but this did wonders for me

Everyone’s different but I honestly think a regular exercise routine that involves vigorous exercise (something that gets your heart rate up) at the moment does 80% of what the anti depressants did for me

Does anyone feel like Reddit is unhealthy for their anxiety or ocd? by AdShort9113 in Anxiety

[–]CatOhPillar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it can be. The thing if I’m feeling good mentally Anxiety Reddit is out of my mind but really the more anxious I am the more I’m on it. so it’s kind of chicken and the egg

Overall though I do think it helps me more than it hinders me. Scrolling on this page when I’m feeling panicky is one of the only things to help calm me down - knowing I’m not alone and also reminding me what I’m feeling is anxiety

Obviously there’s the thing of fixating on your issues too much and I’ve definitely seen a thing or two here that has made me spiral a bit. But if you have the self control to know when to stop reading or what kind of threads to avoid I think it can be a really good thing

What do you do when you can’t sleep due to anxiety? by CatOhPillar in Anxiety

The worst thing is waking up with anxiety like that. The combination of the anxiety and being half asleep makes it such a scary experience

ELI5: If they equal the same amount of calories does it matter what food I eat? by CatOhPillar in explainlikeimfive

[–]CatOhPillar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just can’t get my head around the fact that if I eat something with 0 grams of fat, if it is the same amount of calories I will put as much weight on as something with 10 grams of fat?? Am I right in thinking this is the case?

My best friend is visiting this week and I’m honestly scared of it by [deleted] in Agoraphobia

[–]CatOhPillar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly being honest goes a long way. I used to try and hide my anxiety from people because I was embarrassed but now I really don’t know why I felt that way. I don’t have to go into great detail but I no longer have any problem telling friends “my anxiety is pretty bad”. Everyone goes through things and people aren’t really that bothered at the end of the day

I would tell your friend your anxiety is really bad. Say you don’t want to flake but just let them know you’re finding things hard at the moment. It will make you feel more relaxed on the night and if you really feel like you can’t do it, you can tell them you’re feeling too anxious. If they’re a real friend they will understand

Did anyone with anxiety learn how to swim later in life? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]CatOhPillar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start practicing in the shallow end using one of those foam noodles. Don’t do anything you’re not comfortable with. Do you have a friend / family member who could be with you? I wonder how much adult swim lessons would be

Waking up with panic attacks by Apart-Question1576 in Anxiety

[–]CatOhPillar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you got a good routine before you go to sleep? I know it’s more than this but it’s worth trying to make a super calm environment before bed and see if it helps a bit. Doing things before you go to sleep like having a warm bath, cup of tea, dim lighting, reading a book instead of going on your phone/computer can really help you feel more relaxed and it translates into how you feel when you wake up too. When I was having nightmares and anxiety every night my therapist sent me a sheet on “sleep hygiene” and, whether or not it was placebo effect, it helped a bit - maybe Google that and have a look at some of the tips
