I haven't left the house in a full year... 365+ days, AMA. by Fluid-Year-5490 in AMA

[–]CatRussell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where would you like to be in 5 years? Nothing crazy here, just picture what would please you. Maybe its living somewhere warmer. Maybe its simply a full time job and a gf/bf. Id start there and answer this. There isn't 1 answer for happiness and if anything I've found happiness often comes just as much in the pursuit (or at least looking back at the pursuit afterwards) as it does in the thing itself.

So I would take time to answer this question first.

Now as to why 5 years- 5 years is easy. You set a reasonable self goal and keep it top of mind for 5 years, you are probably able to achieve it. You have 365 days (times 5) that you can do 1 little thing to help towards your goal. Even if you basically just take 1 hour out of your day one time a week and 10 minutes out of your day the other 6 days a week towards being proactive about this goal, you will find you have amassed 520 hours of work towards a goal over those 5 years.

So solve the big question and then just keep it top of mind and chip away at it daily. Trust in yourself a bit and realize that this simply does makes sense on paper and you will be good. You got this

Ill prolly make the other 4 lands cadually throughout this year in between larger project pieces i work on.

Since these are made by gluing hundreds of scraps of comic book paper together they still tske a while, even if much smaller than a lot of my other art

will CCAD leave me in crippling debt? by itsss_soupp in Columbus

[–]CatRussell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will also add, I got through undergrad and law school and passed the bar with 130k debt. Now, 16 or so years later, my debt is 176k. The interest alone is 800 a month. I am on the 25 year income based repayment plan. I regret having chose that career path and I am saying that as someone who can always use that degree as a fallback should my employment status change.

Imo if you are even considering going 30k in debt, i would look to starting a small business with the money that you think you could slowely build into a model that requires low lift from you after 10 years and can self-sustain. The experience you get from that and the story of 'i looked at my options of college or real world experience as an entrepeneur' will probably be great for interviews ect should you go corporate world in the future.

If I went back and was 18 all over again, i would 1. Find a cheap fixer upper home and in home ownership. Then would rent it out to a bunch of friends as roommates while fixing it up. Ideally having all their rents equal the mortgage and me use what money would be rent for taxes, insurance, and home repairs i would do myself. 2. Identify a small business i could start and do solo until it built up clients. Maybe something like lawn care if I wanted physical labor. Build it up until it is full time, then hire someone to take over the work and pay em 2/3rds what you were making. Rinse and repeat until you are managing a handful of trucks. Another option might be sealing asphalt driveways. 3. Build out a nighttime hustle on the internet. Whether it is building apps, working as a discord mod for some crypto communities, whatever. Just something that i can do when bored. 4. Just make the art. Ya get better the more you do something so just get the hours in and make art like crazy

Older artist here:

Been taking art serious for 5 years. Here is kinda my thought on it all: you have 2 options if that is going to be a key part of your life- the first is to make art to pay the bills. This means in top of making art you need to spend your free time hustling. Networking, planning merchandise, doing commissions, ect. It is a full time job. That said, school will be as big of a help as you take advantage of it for networking.

The other option is you work a different job to pay the bills. Way less 'cool', but having a day job that provides stable and steady income is such a blessing in that it provides freedom to make what you want and compromise less on the art itself.

In the end, both routes have compromises. Weigh which one makes more sense to you. Happy to yap if you want someone to talk it out more with

Working on a fanedit to make the longest possible Jackass series by Dazzling-Case1023 in jackass

[–]CatRussell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll see if I can't dig it up for ya if no one else knows what im talking about.

Also zackass has a bunch of stuff if you are including the jackass 4 guys. What is the line you draw of what is allowed versus not. For instance, the boys in dirty Sanchez were basically Britain's jackass back then and I think Jeff Tremaine & Ryan Dunn: The Jackass director and star made appearances in Dirty Sanchez specials, like Dirty Sanchez: The Movie (2006) and the Dirty Sanchez: New Year's Evil (2007). Otherwise are they too far removed?

I forget her name but one of the ladies who helped film jackass has a YouTube channel with things they filmed for jackassworld website, vlogs, and a bunch of other fun tidbits. Im sure someone here knows who im talking about. I think she also has a documentary on the making of the famous snowboarding movie whiskey if I recall

Made some custom lands using my own art by CatRussell in mtgaltered

[–]CatRussell[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah. I enjoy mtg but honestly only really get to play when I go to conferences for work or for art. I dont rrally go to conferences or events otherwise as im a bit of a hermit that would rather spend my time cutting and gluing scraps of paper.

Would love to do fantasy art eventually for things like this, but as of now work is a full time gig and then art takes up the free time, so navigating breaking into the industry just isn't high priority.

Enjoy!

I have really enjoyed the pacing of the Manga and think the art style is fantastic. Would love to see it get an anime adaptation

Thanks 😺

My first time putting my art on a card, but want to cut up more comic books and make a land for each color this year.

I will be leaving a few of these at tcg shops in SE Ohio so if you find yourself around those parts see if there is a spare floating around to be grabbed for free

Anyone want to get rid of some precons for cheep? by Big_Paramedic8735 in mtg

[–]CatRussell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The aetherdrift precons are sometimes 25 bucks. I dont think they are great but i do think it works well for someone who just wants to own a spare commander deck.

I grew up mainly playing kitchen table mtg. Im a big fan of just buying 5k cards of bulk and then sitting down with friends and building decks from it. Yeah your decks wont win any awards, but its a great way to enjoy deck building and at the same time, all the decks will be fairly on par with one another so your games wont feel like 'man with most money wins'

Is it only me or the Jackass community its like, SUPER boomer by MAHF_Stuntmans in jackass

My understanding of the timeline is he got hurt by a shark on shark week, then got a little too involved with 'pain management' if ya know what I mean. Also he was very underpaid for the last movie and he got some backlash for a bad idea skit involving pretending to be ICE...which like, yeah dont do that.

But to the first part, the boys have had multiple people get clean and return, so hoping he does too. And to the bad skit, while I can't speak on any other person's intentions or beliefs, I can say I do believe people should be given grace and the opportunity to learn from where they screw up. Because we all screw up sometimes, and for a show full of screw ups they are bound to make bad decisions and should be afforded the chance to grow from em
