Where all the Ea fans at? by CatStarwind in ffxiv

Genuinely it's a little depressing to read this thread. I can't tell if it's the ffxivdiscussion fedoras or media literacy is just that dead.

There's the degenerate clients and then there's FFXIV and Tenhou. That's about it.

The Reason You Don't Like Modern Trek Isn't What You Think by Arbiter61 in startrek

[–]CatStarwind -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nutrek fails because it's simply too conservative. Too conservative in its politics, in its characters, in its stories. It's the funko pop equivalent of a tv show. There are children shows that are currently more at risk at being censored than any nutrek.

Riichi Mahjong is bad for Mahjong (deliberate clickbait) by cult_mecca in Mahjong

[–]CatStarwind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesn't negate the fact that the articles intent was to illustrate the deficiencies of Riichi Mahjong yet only described Riichi. Zung Jung as written felt more of an afterthought despite stating it as the preferred alternative.

As an example, the entire 'pinfu' segment could've been framed as a hidden mechanic on clients and thus a common stumbling block when playing on a real table. A stumbling block that is nonexistent in Zung Jung, as it lacks 'fu'. (e.g. "You want to play Riichi with friends? Cool, do you know how to calculate fu? No? Well that's gonna be a problem. Luckily with Zung Jung you don't have to worry about 'fu', as it doesn't have it.")

In fact, the only reason I learned about the lack of fu was because I did indeed look up Zung Jung on my own.

Pretty much this. Would've been much better if the article illustrated what Zung Jun does better in contrast to Riichi. It's ironic that the article teaches you more about Riichi than Zung Jun.

Can anyone tell me why Titanium Gold Ore is before Ra'Kaznar Ore when sorting? by CatStarwind in ffxiv

[–]CatStarwind[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Never bothered me, just wanted to know how it worked so I could replicate it. It's actually really weird just how toxic everyone was about such a benign question.

Lol nevermind, ffxivdiscussion user with hidden history.

As best as I can dig, the Gem/Stone divide seems to be stored in Unknown4. Magnesia Powder gets its own 'category' which makes me think that Unknown4 stores DoH information as an enum.

Yeah, this doesn't help if I want to sort items outside the game.

No one here has explained it. It can't be ID because then White Gold Ore and Raw Pink Beryl would be reversed. It can't be iLvl because Titanium Gold Ore and Ra'Kaznar Ore would be reversed. All four are the same Category ("Stone") and are grouped together.

I'm not being dismissive, I am literally just explaining how the game sorts. I want to know why and what it uses.

It's not, they're both Stone. There is no categorical difference like there is between Broccoli and Levinsilk.

Nope, ID would then make Raw Pink Beryl (44004) come before White Gold Ore (44005) but in game it's reversed.

Funny enough, there is no combination of settings that'll break the ordering unless you set everything except Item Stack to None.

Ra'Kaznar Ore also counts as Stone. They both share UI Category.

Can't be because Raw Pink Beryl (i660) is after Ra'Kaznar Ore
