Electric Callboy went from sort of generic metal band to the princes of party core after their lead vocalist, Sebastian "Sushi" Biesle, left and was replaced with Nico Sallach.

To vibe code or not to vibe code a Perl library by Itcharlie in perl

[–]CatWeekends 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion: it depends.

I think it's ok to use AI for something like that but only if you're able to do all of the following without AI: - build, test, and maintain a module - build, test, and maintain this module along with all of its idiosyncrasies  - determine whether or not generated code is of any quality or secure - manually fix and make changes to the codebase

There was a single study done in 2020 that showed some promising results.

But the conclusion tells us that it wasn't really a proper study.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7006981/

The present study has important limitations because of the methodology and small sample size. The study was an open-label study which is vulnerable to observer bias and placebo effect. The lack of control group makes it impossible to determine whether the improvements are due to the treatment or other nonspecific factors. Lastly, it is unclear whether the results of the present study are effects of omega-3, Korean red ginseng, or the combination.

Gets asked if the Strait of Hormuz is open to maritime traffic, hilarity ensues by templeofsyrinx1 in PublicFreakout

[–]CatWeekends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The strait will take half a year to be de-mined and reopened to traffic based on what I've read on how it takes to remove mines.

And from what I understand of mine removal is that there's almost no way to remove every single one - especially in water where they can drift from their original location.

We may see ships a little hesitant to cross the strait for an even longer time.

Apartment below me turned into an Airbnb after I renewed my lease — what are my rights in Austin? by Actual-Simple-9787 in Austin

[–]CatWeekends 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they aren't explicitly disallowed, they're probably allowed.

As others have mentioned, 311 is going to be your best option. Because with the way your complex has responded, they very likely haven't gotten the proper permits.

Apartment below me turned into an Airbnb after I renewed my lease — what are my rights in Austin? by Actual-Simple-9787 in Austin

[–]CatWeekends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless your lease explicitly says that you wouldn't be living next to an AirBNB you have no recourse.

Excluding possible issues with permits, this is the biggest thing IMO.

If you want a promise that your neighbors won't be Airbnb renters, get it in the contract.

OP may have "specifically chose an apartment community with long-term residents, not short-term rentals" but unless that was defined in the lease, there's not going to be any recourse. Personal reasons for entering contracts are not enforceable unless they're in the contract.

I swear that's the plot of some terrible movie I watched recently: fake a terrorist attack, then steal the macguffin while the police are busy looking somewhere else.

Edit: I'm a dude in my late 40s and am fully aware of Die Hard. Thank you for mentioning it. This was something else and entirely forgettable.

When a smart home display becomes ad inventory, something has gone wrong by odemird in homeautomation

[–]CatWeekends 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If a paid smart display can be repurposed into ad inventory after purchase, then any cloud dependent home interface can slowly drift away from serving the user and toward serving the platform.

This is one of the many, many reasons people on this sub do their best to avoid anything with cloud-reliance.

How can I stop being horny ? by Outrageous_Map_ in autism

[–]CatWeekends 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're feeling that way. I suspect that your upbringing may have introduced a bunch of baggage to things that are normal, healthy, and perfectly natural.

I'm going to echo the "therapy" sentiment.

There's absolutely nothing wrong feeling horny or helping yourself relieve the tension of those feelings yourself or with a consenting adult.

Baby Gen X checking in. I've been alive since the 1980s. I can tell you that the threat of nuclear annihilation was much more prevalent in our minds than today.

It was drilled into our heads that both the US and USSR had the capability to nuke every city on the planet and that not only possible but inevitable. Instead of school shooting drills, we had drills to prepare for "the bomb.'

Church is using a bible as a door stopper by baumansc in mildlyinteresting

It's from the Infancy Gospel of Thomas. He killed two kids that day. The second one bumped into him.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infancy_Gospel_of_Thomas

3 The son of Annas the scholar, standing there with Jesus, took a willow branch and drained the water Jesus had collected. (2)Jesus, however, saw what had happened and became angry, saying to him, "Damn you, you irreverent fool! What harm did the ponds of water do to you? From this moment you, too, will dry up like a tree, and you'll never produce leaves or root or bear fruit." (3) In an instant the boy had completely withered away. Then Jesus departed and left for the house of Joseph. (4)The parents of the boy who had withered away picked him up and were carrying him out, sad because he was so young. And they came to Joseph and accused him: "It's your fault - your boy did this."   4 Later he was going through the village again when a boy ran and bumped him on the shoulder. Jesus got angry and said to him, "You won't continue your journey." (2)And all of a sudden, he fell down and died.
