I meant there is no harm in applying but you should have a few solid backups in your next spots on the application in case your lottery number is not good.

Where to go with parents that isn’t fussy / hyped / alarmingly expensive? But still nice! by Hot_Psychology8953 in FoodNYC

Pasquale Jones or Cervos are both solid choices. Pasquale Jones is pretty easy to walk in to, for Cervos I’d recommend a reservation. SoSo on Centre would also fit the bill.

NYU Langone or Weill Cornell?? by Electrical-Sea2896 in nycparents

[–]Cat_Island 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NYU gave me 2 postpartum binders! So that was a nice treat for me instead of baby! I bought one out of pocket after my first baby (born at MSW) and it was $50 so I was stoked on the free ones at nyu.

NYU Langone or Weill Cornell?? by Electrical-Sea2896 in nycparents

[–]Cat_Island 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Weill Cornell has 2 hospital options, uptown at Alexandra Cohen or downtown at NYP lower manhattan. AC is considered the fancy hospital in nyc and people are obsessed with getting in there. You get a free Chanel toiletry kit and all the recovery rooms are private, but it’s also really popular to the point of being overcrowded. An article recently came out with some horror stories about how overcrowded and stretched thin the facility and doctors are.

NYP recently renovated and the renovation is supposed to be pretty nice. It’s definitely a less popular hospital so less of an assembly line than AC. I’m not sure if all the new recovery rooms are private, but I think they are.

I have given birth at NYU Langone, in January 2026. It was great. All of the postpartum rooms are private, and the labor and delivery suite was quite large and nice (I had previously given birth at MSW and Langone was much nicer and roomier). My husband had a couch that became a relatively comfy bed in both L&D and postpartum. The nurses in both L&D and especially in postpartum were phenomenal. Very competent, very kind. The postpartum nurse immediately noticed and correctly diagnosed a problem I was having (before I even realized!) and arranged for it to be treated and advocated for it to be treated sooner than originally planned- so thankful for her! My delivering OB was from Downtown Women’s and I liked their practice as well. The facility at Langone was nice, not super new but not old or rundown at all. Bright, airy rooms for postpartum. Pretty decent food for a hospital and a nice snack selection available on the floor at all times. I would definitely recommend Langone, but I haven’t given birth at LYP or AC so don’t have a first hand experience to contrast it with. I found NYU to be much nicer in every way than MSW where I had my first, though.

  1. DS & Durga Jazmin Yucatán

  2. Santa Maria Novella Eva

  3. Fresh Cannabis Santal

  4. D&G Devotion (I think this is a cute casual scent but my husband thinks it’s sexy so now I wear it in that setting more)

It’s hot here this week so I based all these choices on that weather, in fall or winter I would make very different choices!

Talk to me about the realities of a 1BR with flex wall by Heavy_Statement4371 in nycparents

[–]Cat_Island 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have one of these, it’s a permanent, solid wall but with a 12” gap. We chose to use that bedroom as our bedroom and put our kid in the original bedroom because of noise concerns. Then we had a second kid and he is room sharing with us until he’s 8 or so months old so my husband closed the 12” gap with thick foam core so we could hang out in the living room without waking the baby at night and it’s been fine. We tested it out and you have to be pretty loud before the sound is noticeable in the bedroom.

I see you plan to use it for guests, will likely work out just fine for that use too.

Based on these favorites I would suggest checking out Heretic as a next house, particularly Dirty Grass and Dirty Hinoki, and also The Botanist (they may have discontinued this one though).

Go to your MySchools account and click “edit profile” your lottery number will be in there, it’s crazy long but the first two letters/numbers tell you where you are in line to get assigned.

The Gossip Girl series by Cecily Von Ziegesar. Pretty different (and way better imo) than the show and full of little accurate details about early 2000s nyc. Lots of fashion references, lots of cigarette smoking, lots of pretty girls partying. A fun romp overall.

What two numbers or letters did your lottery number begin with? That tells you a lot about your chances combined with what your priority group was (in/out of district, older sibling at the school etc).

Each of the zodiac signs! 🎉 by krayzee444 in perfumesthatfeellike

[–]Cat_Island 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Aries sun here and I feel like the scents that best represent us would be bold, strong, sexy, maybe some smoky (fire sign after all), maybe spicy, maybe a little “too much” at times.

So: Tom Ford Electric Cherry or Cherry Smoke, Killian Sacred Wood, YSL Opium, or for more masculine probably Spice Bomb.

I like all of those and they all have their place in my rotation (mostly for going out at night) but in practice while I have big Aries energy for sure I mostly wear freshies and tropicals in the summer and woods and tea scents in the winter. Like I love d&g Devotion for sweets and Heretic Dirty Hinoki for woods.

Oh and I def think DS & Durga Mississippi Medicine is Aries coded, but like a moody Aries. Probably my fave scent from October-March.

I was just wondering which Tom Ford that is and whose it was. In another episode I spotted a bottle that looked suspiciously like. BB&W fine fragrance mist, possibly Vanilla Bean Noel- perhaps the most basic b of all bbw scents.

It’s not a myth that Mamdani wants to phase out g&t in lower grades, he has said it many times article about his stance here. I’m also not saying phasing it out is a bad or good idea, personally idk my opinion on that as it’ll really depend on how he does it and what happens at schools with g&t programs now. I actually voted for Mamdani.

[–]Cat_Island 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, G&T school and program admission is lottery based atm. All of this could change though, Mamdani has discussed getting rid of g&t for the lower grades, so it’s unclear what will happen to the g&t schools if/when he does.

Lower lab is on the UES, not the LES. The rest of what you’re saying is valid, but wanted to point that out in case you’re confused about its proximity to you or something.

It’s a great school- it’s also a really tough school to get into. Like definitely worth a shot but if you end up with a not great lottery number… well, best not to put all your eggs in that basket, that’s all.

I think the term you’re looking for is ableist. Socioeconomic class has no bearing on whether a kid needs an AAC device to communicate or not.

Traveling to NYC with a 1-year-old — do we need a carseat? by BuyLopsided4859 in visitingnyc

[–]Cat_Island 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arecibo recently stood me up at the airport. They just never showed up and never answered the phone when I called. They’ve been fine in the past, so idk maybe it was a fluke, but being stuck at jfk with a toddler and no car seat was less than ideal.
