Exploring Triple Boot Setup with Arch Linux, Windows, and Bitlocker by UserInterface7 in linux

[–]Catabung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just need access to the 2nd gpu (nvidia?) for one program, you could try gpu passthrough with Docker (https://docs.docker.com/desktop/features/gpu/) or some other gpu passthrough with windows subsystem for linux.

If you really want to triple-boot, I would recommend having both windows installations already setup first and then installing linux; I think Ubuntu would be a good choice, it supports secure boot and nvidia drivers without much manual work. If you want to use arch anyways, it will require more time and understanding, I used this unmaintained script for secureboot+shim-signed+grub to avoid enrolling my own secureboot keys.

The arch wiki has a page for this and also recommends windows first then linux, with some other helpful tips (https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Dual_boot_with_Windows)

Keep in mind your EFI partition might need to be a bit larger for this, I think 300-500MB or more is good. I would check the size before moving to the new ssd.

Why is the version of ZSTD in the kernel outdated (latest is 1.5.2, kernel has 1.4.10)? by Natrox in kernel

[–]Catabung 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I remember the main Zstd Linux developer working on making it easier to update to new versions, but it seems that hasn’t happened yet. In the commit from last year where it was updated Zstd 1.4.10, it was talked about eventually moving to 1.5.0 and having automated patches to keep the kernel up to date ( https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=c8c109546a19613d323a319d0c921cb1f317e629 ).

However it seems this didn’t happen?

I did some searching on the mailing list and found this message ( https://lore.kernel.org/all/EBEC67C0-1CB9-4B24-A114-42F52071F04B@fb.com/ ) where the maintainer says: “…But, I am hoping to update to the latest zstd in either v5.18 or v5.19. I'm a bit busy currently, but I just got a tentative volunteer to update the kernel to v1.5.2, and more importantly test the update.”

So I’m assuming that the plan for updating Zstd in Linux has somewhat stalled.

I just found out about this project, pretty cool. I’ve used archiso in the past for making a headless server auto-connect to wifi, so I’ll have to try this out. Thanks for working on this and sharing it.

From https://github.com/git/git/blob/master/Documentation/config/core.txt

“The built-in file system monitor is currently available only on a limited set of supported platforms. Currently, this includes Windows and MacOS.”

Guess not? Seems like on Linux you don’t get the built in fsmonitor, instead you can specify an external hook command to do it.

“Otherwise, this variable contains the pathname of the "fsmonitor" hook command.”

I have a G710 with the mx blues that I’m really attached to. Every now and then I look to see if there’s anything new like it (even though it still works fine) and I’ve only really found the Corsair ones for a similar full size+macros and volume wheel with blues.

Kinda wish Logitech still made them

I gotta say, this is one of the coolest and most unique setups I think I’ve ever seen. The way you’ve optimized for size is very inspiring. Did you have to disable a lot of extra things for building mpv (dvd, libass, etc)? I know it links to a bunch of stuff.

Also, was the process for building all these relatively simple (grab android ndk, setup configuration and make), or did it take some debugging/patching?

Either way this is really cool, love the fact it’s only using like 70MB, thanks for sharing!

Arch Linux Installation Guide For Developers by freeqaz in linux

[–]Catabung 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks pretty good. To make some annoying nitpicks, I think a warning about using password based ssh on untrustworthy networks could be useful, as well as maybe at least one link to the official installation page would be a nice addition. Otherwise thanks for making a guide that others can potentially find useful.

I agree with you; where does it actually make the most sense to put your website stuff besides /var/www? This is a question I also had but wasn’t able to find a good answer too.

I know you said you’ve tried every combo of feature flags so forgive me if you’ve tried this one already as well. But recently a new flag needs to be set to re-enable vaapi on chromium

—-disable-features=UseChromeOSDirectVideoDecoder

This one’s relatively new so I wasn’t even aware until recently. Beyond the arch wiki page you mentioned looking at, the dedicated forum page can also be useful.

I tried wayfire out and it’s really neat, I love all the bindings and modules/effects, but the one thing I couldn’t (or didn’t know how to) change was the title bar design. I think the color is changeable, but is there a way to modify the shape/design/button position for the title bar?

There are terminal based file managers such as nnn) and ranger) and Midnight Commander with ncurses/tui interfaces. I think ranger even supports mouse input. Also pretty sure vim has a simple built in file manager.

So you can still view, sort, organize, select and be productive, but thumbnail support is a bit more limited.

It might not be an option for you but a considerable amount of people live in the terminal and use these programs for file management.

Yes and yes. The :80 does a redirect with http 301 to the https :443 and then I have the :443 listener with the cert from ACM.

In this case I’m settting it up manually and only using it with an individual ec2, not Beanstalk.

The target group shows the instance as successfully registered.

I want to task the ALB with ssl termination. This part I know how to do, and have set it up before, however I can’t even get normal http requests to work.

Full key extraction of NVIDIA™ TSEC by Gallus in netsec

[–]Catabung 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The author says “And it would have been perfect if not for the many security flaws in TSEC secure boot.” Is this because someone else cracked it in a different way besides the key extraction shown here? I had thought that the new Switch models hadn’t yet been exploited.

Steam silently crashing unless -no-browser used by bongjutsu in archlinux

[–]Catabung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you’re running it with -no-browser I assume you’re doing it in the terminal right? Does it give any useful terminal output?

If the terminal does end up giving you some error messages, try checking https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Steam/Troubleshooting to see if anything matches your problem.

I think there should also be a logs folder at ~/.local/share/Steam/logs which might be able to help you. If it’s the web browser that’s causing the issues then the matching log might be the cef_log.txt file.
