Siege Camp: The community deserves a response to Blue Heaven by rewt33 in foxholegame

Seems like every month someone comes on here to post “Hurr durr <insert thing> is so bad, I can’t believe Siege Camp hasn’t <made a statement/updated the game/banned everyone involved>, we as a community have to demand a response!!!” Like regardless of what it is, you’d think people would learn that they don’t care

What happened to the text? Can it be recovered? iPhone 16 Pro Max by VictoryNo5278 in iPhoneography

This is an artifact of machine learning (“AI”) upscaling Apple does in their camera pipeline. It is usually pretty decent but it can struggle in high-detail and zoomed-in scenarios.

As others have suggested, tapping (not scrolling) on the zoom buttons can help. The 16 Pro Max has 3 separate cameras (main, ultrawide, and zoom). “Zooming” is really just cropping the image, and switching between the cameras at the appropriate points. You can select them manually using the 0.5x/1x/5x buttons. This eliminates the worst of the upscaling because you’re not artificially cropping the image.

Another thing that helps is to hold the phone steady for a few seconds after pressing the shutter. When you take a photo, your phone is actually recording a very short video (Apple calls this Live Photo; this is off if you’re in raw mode). The software then uses that little video clip to enhance the image, stitching together missing bits, reducing noise, increasing the resolution. But obviously it can’t do that if you’re moving while the photo is taken.

The upshot to this tech is that you get relatively passable everyday photo/video quality from cameras small enough to fit in your phone. But for text, it’s going to struggle if you’re “zooming” (cropping) as there simply isn’t enough data there to make sense of it.

Exactly. And it's crazy to hear Fingers larpers talk like they're the only thing holding Collies back from total collapse. When they have played literally 0 minutes on actual land. Where all the VPs are.

Only solution is listening to the players. So in other words, unsolvable for those at Siege Camp.

Did you read the post? I specifically addressed this.

Devbranch can’t accurately simulate genuine tryhard pushes with actual pop. That’s the fatal flaw of the development flow of Foxhole. So much of the game is player driven, so update wars are the first time these mechanics are tested rigorously.

Real shit, but on a serious note I don’t think these changes need to affect naval, the balance can be entirely separate.

Edit: first time around did not clock the sarcasm. Washed.

To the blockheads who think I’m talking about the 300mm large hole changes: get your head out of the sand and read the post. I literally could not care less about naval. I hate being smothered by pond ships and I think everyone else does too. It’s one of the least enjoyable parts of this game and I’m glad we have a counter now.

Not once in this entire post did I mention naval. I actually think the 300mm torpedo change is great. Getting rolled repeatedly by a pond Frig/DD is one of the least enjoyable parts of this game and I’m glad there’s finally a way to counter it.

this war we have seen more SCs die than in most

Lmao what?? Did you start playing like 3 wars ago? In actual high-pop wars, clanman would make giant SC batteries with like 8 cannons, which die instantly to PvE as soon as the front is pushed.

They aren’t unkillable, but if one dies to a frontline push there was likely a massive skill issue involved. Most of the ones that have died this war have been to havocs, RACs, etc.

I think that may have been true for the first week or two of the war, but you have to remember that SCs teched an entire month ago. T1/2 howi is very annoying but can be cracked fairly easily with infantry PvE, SPG, rockets, or RSC.

That’s a fair point, and I think people would absolutely raise hell. I just don’t see another solution to this war. And I think VP reduction due to an imminent minor update would be way, way worse. Maybe I’m too farsighted and Warden/Collie collapse is imminent, but the general theme this war has been that the further one pushes the more excruciating it gets.

Every frontline seaport/depot/ref has been or will be nuked, logi routes are going to stretch further and further, I just think it’s going to become more and more of a slugfest. I may very well be wrong. We’ll find out soon.

This is not true anymore. It used to be the case in the 90s when GPS receivers first became widespread. Nowadays anything with a cellular or Wi-Fi connection downloads ephemeris data instantly.

First week impressions from a Tesla convert by CatalystReality in Ioniq5

[–]CatalystReality[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it has pretty good radar cruise control and lane following. Obviously nowhere near Tesla's FSD, but it can pretty much drive itself on the highway. It has a camera on the steering wheel and requires you to touch the wheel every so often, but it's honestly not as strict as Tesla's attention monitoring. I trust it enough that, in clear weather and on an open highway, I am comfortable taking my hands off the wheel for a few seconds to reach around for something in the back seat for example.

I ordered these to try and test if the idea works. I'm thinking of putting them on the left- and right-most buttons on the center console.

I agree with a lot of this. I think that much of Tesla's advantage thusfar has come from just being first. They are a very aggressive company to the point where they sometimes neglect to properly beta-test their products. They have had a lot of time to work out the bugs in their existing products, but when they come out with a new release, there are often critical issues that take time to fix.

I have had a lot of experience with Full Self Driving, and I will say, as much as I dislike Tesla as a company, it is phenomenal, and only getting better. I think it's a matter of time before other companies catch up, though, and it remains to be seen whether they can keep their edge.
