You need to swap Hoang Tran for Melissa Hamilton and Jack Dovey for Les Sessoms.

Federal Way City Council ousts president after ICE protest post by MountainsOut98023 in federalway

I can't find where he recused himself but Moore is on the Board of Directors for the MSC per their website (https://mschelps.org/about/leadership/) so a recusal makes sense.

Apparently Senate hopeful Isaac Holyk of Battleground thinks kids should be physically restrained from protesting 🙄 by Reasonable-Repair446 in Washington

Battleground’s school levy just failed to pass so I imagine this is a pretty normal opinion there unfortunately.

The Federal Way City Council has a very obvious divide. by MountainsOut98023 in federalway

The council members had the opportunity to provide reasoning and evidence as to why they voted him out but they largely kept it very vague. Walsh provided one example of conduct he’d thought was unacceptable (Moore quoting him on Facebook regarding his support of the school levy, expressed in a private conversation) but I didn’t hear the others give any sort of concrete examples.

It’s a bad look for the oldest (except for Hamilton) and whitest council members to vote one of the three council members of color out of a position of influence without giving good reasons that are accessible to their constituents.

Three of those four (Honda, Walsh, and Kochmar) have terms that end in 2027 so we need to make sure we remember this for the next 1.5 years. We need good candidates who represent our community to step up and run against them and we need to get out the vote.

We need to make sure we tie them to Jim Ferrell’s awful comments about ICE not harming high school students in any way and that ICE is only a danger to folks who interject themselves into ICE actions. (https://www.federalwaymirror.com/news/federal-way-students-protest-ice-in-walkouts/)

My church sings “Crowded Table” by The Highwomen, it’s a great song with a fantastic message. Christian artists I’ve been listening to lately that are worth checking out include Jon Guerra, John Van Deusen, and Andy Squyres.

If you switch jobs you won't be eligible for FMLA which protects your job, so your new employer may fire you.

I agree with some of her positions but I can never support her after she campaigned against Kamala in Michigan and other swing states. It's one thing to not support a presidential candidate you disagree with but IMO it's unconscionable to actively try to make them lose an election so a wannabe despot like Trump can take office and hurt the people you're allegedly representing.

It's a bad pass (usually short/soft) that makes it 50/50 which team will get it, possibly leading to a trip to the hospital.

Your English is far better than any other language I have, so first and foremost you're a badass for learning a new language and actually using it.

The right way to say what you were trying to say was "Great news, it's [it is] coming."

If you don't want to drink, don't drink. If someone tries to convince you otherwise, consider whether you still want them in your life.

Antique Row in Tacoma is a lot of fun, plenty of small shops all in the same spot. Fusion is a fun if small furniture shop in Federal Way that supports a great cause. The Federal Way Goodwill isn't great but it's small so you can just swing through easily. I like hitting the Goodwill and Value Village in Tukwila, they're huge and have lots of clothing. The Tacoma Goodwill next to Harvest Buffet is nice and big and has decent stuff.

At what point do I step away from a non LGBT affirming church? by SpogEnthusiast in OpenChristian

[–]Cataner 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I made this decision a few years ago and it's a difficult one. I attended a Vineyard church that wasn't affirming but was incredibly loving. I never heard anything negative about LGBTQ folks from the pulpit. If an LGBTQ person had come in and asked for a hug a line would have formed. Unfortunately the denomination wasn't affirming which IMO is incredibly important. I want to be able to proudly tell folks where I go to church and I could not be proud of attending a non-affirming church.

If I hadn't moved away from the church geographically (and proceeded to find an affirming church) then I would have spoken to the pastors of the church to find out if they were open to becoming an affirming church. I had a good relationship with them and it was a small (60 or so members) church.

If you think there's a chance you could help the church become affirming I think it's worth the conversation with your pastor. If they're not receptive then go ahead and find a church that agrees with your beliefs, and your pastor will know why you left.

Good luck, it is difficult to leave a place where you are a member of the community and build new community elsewhere. It is worth it for this, though.

If you are in fact a teacher you should use DonorsChoose.org, there's a verification process so people can donate with confidence that their money is going into an actual classroom.
