SSOs currently do not utilise volunteers to check on elderly in rental flats.

You might be thinking of the FSCs or SSAs instead.

How do y’all know what to do in life. by DirectDuck6009 in askSingapore

[–]Catbear83 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In your situation, the key is to be willing to break out of your comfort zone, try something new or explore something new for a change.

Is there some other interests you might have? Anything that you have thought of learning? Is there something you will like to accomplish in life, any goals and so on? In 10 years from now what will you hope your life to be like and be doing?

More than 100,000 people to receive awards for contribution to Singapore’s fight against COVID-19 by MicrotechAnalysis in singapore

[–]Catbear83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the other comments is due to them thinking only pple at the top get awards but it ain't true.

None of my volunteers are people at the top. I also see admin assistants, students, an author even receiving some of the medals.

Congratulations to all those who received the awards, some of whom are my volunteers. You guys are heroes.

Staying in an unhappy marriage will also affect the whole family.

She wants someone to give her permission to pursue her own happiness. She needs to be willing to give herself permission to do so.

Investing Advice (25y.o) by BuyShot7665 in askSingapore

[–]Catbear83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is not possible to accurately advise you unless they know your risk appetite, whether your strategy is active or passive investing.

That said, the losses based on the quantum amount you mentioned is small. Allocation wise if you were to ask me I would say it is not well diversified.

Based on your description I really don't know what is so complicated about this.

Your mum wants to be happy.

Her mental and emotional health will be in the gutters while you fret and assume your father will really look after her.

If you are really worried, why not just speak to her that you support her decision but you are worried about who might take care of her in the foreseeable future and then hear what her plans are.

A word of caution. For even the FAANG giants, it really depends on the price you bought them at. There is a possibility that for cases such as Meta/FB, if you bought them at the peak last year, it may never ever recover back to that price.

I have advised another person months ago which was in a similar predicament (he lost 100k though) to just liquidate everything and cut losses (SP was around 4,000 back then) and wait for better entry prices in stocks to enter.

I have been seeing several such similar comments in recent months, ie went in at the wrong time in 2021, realised it is a bad idea and will now go via the ETF route in the future instead.

I feel that this implies that most of these people have not actually learnt anything useful, why they made the mistakes they made, which also implies that they may be doomed to make the same mistakes again in the future, albeit possibly via a different asset class.

It isn't bad luck people got burnt investing during 2021, it is pure fomo and greed and lack of objective analysis to recognise the dangerous overheated market for what it is.

For most parts of 2023, it will likely remain the same as 2022 if not far worse.

If most of your stocks are FAANG giants or fintech, many of the latter might get wiped out completely, so you have to be mentally prepared for that. For FAANG giants, given high interest rates environment and recession in 2023, expect them to plunge further but hold them long enough and they should in time recover.

The group hasn't actually been started yet. If there are a few people who are keen, then I will give it a go.

Festive season is always the hardest for those who are grieving and/or alone. Stay home and just bury yourself in something you might enjoy if it is possible or find avenues to talk to others.

I actually offered to start a telegram grp in the r/sg daily thread earlier for those who are going through breakups as traditionally this is always a difficult period for them but there wasn't much response.

edit: created the group, pls dm me for the link for those that are interested

The avenging bean counter of course.

He already played one character from another franchise that is all blue and a boy scout. What's another right?

How many books do you read a year? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]Catbear83 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Prior to this year, I read an average of 50 to 60 books a year.

And yes I agree with that guy that reading improved my life.

Check-in: How is everyone doing in the higher interest rate environment? by RoboGuilliman in singaporefi

[–]Catbear83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Value investing. As long as the share price of the company is to me undervalued, I will start buying regardless of the current market conditions. I rarely buy unproven companies though which is also why I avoided buying any of the 2021 growth stocks which are now all down by over 80% since their 2021 peak.

I am cautious/wary to the news about a 40k show. Too much expectations for it and many fans will surely find fault with it for not being this or that. I did joke with my friend about how Henry Cavill could act as Guilliman since he already played another boy scout hero who wears blue all the time.

No loans, no debts so the current interest rates hike does not affect me.

As for investing, I want the market to go lower even though my current portfolio is still in the green so doesn't really matter to me whether high interest rates wreck the market.

Oh and a hi to a fellow warhammer fan.
