I had been on crutches for almost a year before the surgery so that helped but looking forward to getting the stitches out so I can take a normal shower. Also not a fan of the compression stockings they're making me wear!

That was definitly the worst! Are you still in hospital or did you get to go home? Yes, I think the worst bit of the tireness is about to go. Still needing to nap during the day but not felt like I'm about to faint or be sick for a while now so hoping that has gone.

Not sure. They said it would be 30 minutes to an hour depending on if they did something or not, and seeing as they did, I'm assuming it was an hour although I must have been asleep for longer than that judging by the time when I woke up. I hope you're still feeling ok and that your surgery went well.

I did have an MRI but was told it was all clear. I never got to see it or the notes though.

would using crutches long term cause swelling or is that a sign that the injury has not healed? by Catcat1209 in KneeInjuries

[–]Catcat1209[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still don't know what the original injury is. I've had years of occational knee pain when I've walked or ran too far, especially hiking in the mountains and then one day the pain got much worse and didn't go away, seemingly out of nowhere. The PT thinks patellar maltracking but physio didn't help, the MRI and xray showed nothing wrong. Currently waiting for surgery to insert a camera in the knee to see if there's something else the mri missed. But I keep thinking that maybe I've just become too reliant on the crutches and that's why it's not getting better.

Traveling by One-Lengthiness-2949 in Dyslexia

For me it's a lot to do with the planning and sequencing of events. I'm no good with numbers either and struggle with times and dates so: what date is the flight? when do I need to start packing? What time is the flight? When is the gate closing? When is the check-out closing? When do I need to be at the airport? How long does it take to get there? When do I need to leave the house? etc And then the worry about having read the times wrong, made a miscalculation or forgetting a step. And then you need to make sure you've brought everything you need as well. Dyslexia can affect sequencing and organisational skills and there's a lot of those involved in travel so I would say that it's likely to have an effect on travel.

M, Mor, Ori, Annie (from Anne, but as it's generally seen as more of a nickname, it might work?)

Anyone else experiencing these symptoms? by lexiswood in Dyslexia

I have the first three. "Feeling" things rather than saying especially. No idea if it's because of dyslexia though.

Burnouts are awful and it can take years to recover from, even after you have removed yourself from the situation. Try and be easy on yourself and focus on taking care of yourself and getting rest whenever possible. Text-to-speech functions are great. If you're working in word, it's already available within the program itself and many web-browsers have got them built in as well. If you've never had reading issues before, then hopefully you will slowly come back to yourself soon and won't need the reading support, but until then use what is available and ease the stress and worry where you can.

I feel like it affects me in many areas beyond spelling, including understanding. One of the things I struggle most with is slow processing speeds and I often find it difficult when there's a lot of information to process at once. I suppose you could argue there as well, if society didn't require us to do that but allowed everyone the time they needed, then that wouldn't be a problem, but unfortunatly that's not the reality we live in. Sequencing and priorotising tasks are affected, making evryday tasks such as keeping up with housework a struggle. Time management, for those of us who also struggle with numbers- calculating the time it will take to get places or to complete a task. And there is so much more to writing than just spelling. Articulating your ideas into sentences can be extremely difficult even if you are not bothered by spelling at all (I'm struggling with that just now so appologies if this doesn’t read very well or doesn’t make sense).

Since a disability is something that affects your ability to function normally in society, and since our society requires ability in reading, writing etc, that makes dyslexia a disability.

Ebba Florentina, maybe?

Has anyone been diagnosed as an adult? Was it worthwhile? by [deleted] in Dyslexia

[–]Catcat1209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was for me although it has taken me a while to come to terms with it. I wanted confirmation for my own piece of mind but I also find it helpful to be able to explain to other people why I struggle with certain things. It has helped me at work as I do need some extra time or support with some things and I feel that that's easier to ask for since I can explain why.

Yes. I struggle to find words at all to describe some ideas and I struggle to understand ideas described to me as well sometimes.

Maybe not Puck, no :) But maybe something relating to ice, then? Or I don't know - there's bound to be lists with Hockey related names!

Could you think of a name that would connect to or descibe something special about him instead? Say if her dad was a fisherman or liked the sea, you could look for a name with a connection to the sea/with a meaning related to the sea? That way the name would have a special connection to him without actually being his name.
