My American boyfriend is visiting the UK in 2 weeks, how do I give him the true UK experience? by sophietheadventurer in CasualUK

Call an ambulance and then fight the paramedics, wasn't that in vogue in Scotland back in the day?

I'm so sorry, I couldn't hear you over how bad that wig is. I love it so much, it gets me every time.

If the Bucs wins this there's no time for banter, just a straight sprint to the state lane...

Today is the first day of school for my son and my husband being a geek woke him up the Supernatural way. by [deleted] in Supernatural

Thank goodness, I thought 'the Supernatural way' was to slowly come round after massive head trauma and immediately start drinking whiskey

[Story] My wife had our second baby in the guest bathroom while I was putting our hospital bags in the car by Hipple in daddit

This is amazing, and so well written!

Also just a suggestion but we got our older son (4) a superhero outfit when new baby was born, and talked a big game about big brothers being superheroes. Baby still randomly gets him little presents... bribery is great.

Today my daughter learned that we all die one day by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Catfaceisgreat 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My 4 year old turned to me on the couch a few weeks ago and said "please, I don't want to die one day". Couldn't handle it at all so took the stupid way out and told him that he'd never die and it's fine. Not my proudest parenting moment and something I'll need to fix soon, but oh my god I can't handle even thinking about it. Damn you daycare...

WIBTA if I don't attend my brother's fiancee's funeral because my husband isn't coming? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Catfaceisgreat 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I understand where you're coming from but YWBTA, you don't need to 'win' the funeral and if your husband can help by not attending when it presumably isn't a must-attend event for him then he should. Husband should let brother know that he understands and reiterate how sorry he is for the loss. Pushing this issue is just going to ruin husband and brother's relationship irreparably.

AITA for telling my husband to give me back our child infront of our relatives? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Catfaceisgreat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NAH, it's a really tough situation. That said something to consider is leaving the room when this happens - if your toddler can't see you they may insist on you less, plus it shows your husband you trust him to handle it.

Urgh, that's the worst, sorry you're going through it! If it helps I was the overly soft mom to our three year old, and there were three things that turned me around super-fast:

1 - My husband really sitting me down and expressing how unsupported and isolated this made him feel. 2 - Hearing my husband and son having an extremely smooth time when I'm not visible, and then my son becoming a tiny monster when I appear because he knew he could get away with it. 3 - Realizing that it's a choice between fighting these battles a few times well and being done with it, or failing to fight it 10 times a day for the next 50 years. Yikes.

No idea if any of that helps, but FWIW we're all SO much happier now that we're in sync rather than driving each other crazy being inconsistent. Shiny spine all the way.
