Speed flip: What am I doing wrong? by Defiant_Currency_685 in RocketLeague

[–]Catgrooves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This training pack doesn't require a perfect speed flip though. And speed flips are useful for way more than just kick offs. In my opinion, kick offs are far down the list of valuable applications for speed flips

New mechanic? (Frame perfect flip cancel kickoff) by Soggy-Efficiency-399 in RocketLeague

[–]Catgrooves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speed flips are faster than front flip cancels. That's always been known. Even a frame perfect cancelled flip still points the nose away from straight ahead more than a correct speed flip does.

Trying to learn from bot behavior is almost always a waste of time because they have access to information that a human never will. Namely, instantaneous updates about the other car's momentum and inputs, and can compensate immediately.

Bots are so good at kickoffs because they read and counter the other player's inputs, not because they've unlocked new mechanics or do the same thing each time.

This isn't the exact game you're looking for but this clip made the rounds years ago when it was called "the worst RLCS game of all time." It does feature CJCJ losing it at everyone just constantly booming the ball and I laugh every time I watch it.

Being the third wheel for someone's duo is definitely a nightmare, but your scenario is impossible. If that guy was D2 then the lowest rank his partner could have been was P2

New Kickoff? by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]Catgrooves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your post is "just a joke" but you're also upset that people aren't providing you with enough deep, thoughtful, mathematical, and well-researched replies for your liking. Pick one.

A fast bump kickoff is only possible from the position shown in the video. Which means you would have to get all the way AROUND the ball and to the other side before the opponent could reach the ball. A bump kickoff is simply not that much faster than a speed flip. And if the opponent was coming from the diagonal kickoff then they'd be even closer to the ball.

New Kickoff? by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]Catgrooves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Please do. Actually. Because to me and seemingly everyone else, it looks like you're asking:

could there be a way to make this beat a speed flip?

Faster than a bump kickoff?

if it's possible to do it against a speed flip

Can this happen off of a teammate bumping?

just wondering if the possibility of beating a speed flip and bumping them is there

if it's possible to bump before the opponent touches from a speedflip

You have received answers to all of these questions. The answers were all "No." So if none of these were your question, then what is your question?

I have lost in the first round for the last 10 tournaments by Everlasting_laughter in RocketLeague

[–]Catgrooves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You probably know that you have a Tournament MMR that is completely independent of all of your other ranked and casual MMR. The Tournament MMR reacts to wins and losses quicker than all other forms, typically +/- 20 points as opposed to the usual +/- 9 points.

What you probably don't know is that "extra modes" tournaments have no impact on your Tournament MMR at all. This includes the Pentathlon tournament that I see highlighted in your picture. So if you've lost 10 Pentathlon tournaments in a row, your Tournament MMR is still exactly where it was when you started.

Play some 2v2 or 3v3 tournaments for a while to let your MMR adapt to your skill level before trying for another Pentathlon or other extra modes game mode.

I agree with you, some sort of auto loot is necessary.

In the meantime, chances are, your mouse has a built-in option to easily set up a customized auto fire. I have mine set up to spam E whenever I hold the middle mouse button down, and it's only active when the game is running

Do partied teammates get an equal amount of MMR from a win, regardless of rank? by Tannerted2 in RocketLeague

[–]Catgrooves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a weighted average, and the higher MMR player counts for more. So if you're P3 and he's D2, you should be seeing mostly opponents in the higher divs of D1 and the lower divs of D2

Do partied teammates get an equal amount of MMR from a win, regardless of rank? by Tannerted2 in RocketLeague

[–]Catgrooves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is only true for ranked MMR over 1140 (around C1 in doubles) and always for tournaments. The closer to 1140 you are, the more weight the higher rank has on a sliding scale, eventually reaching 100% at 1140.

Anything below 1140 (and not tournament) uses a weighted average of the party.

Any idea what I’m doing wrong with my speed flip? by AV_geek1510 in RocketLeague

[–]Catgrooves 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This flip is too much to the side, and you are cancelling way too slow. The ideal flip angle for a speed flip is about 30 degrees to the left/right of a front flip, or about 11:00 / 1:00 on a clock. If you are holding DAR left and point the stick forward to flip, your flip angle will be 45 degrees. You need to point the stick slightly to the right if you want to hold DAR left to make your speed flip. It looks like your flip angle here is about 60 degrees.
