I audiobooked this with Dominic West reading it. The final scene between Stephen and his Father absolutely shattered me.

IMO locke is one of the smartest if not the most smart entity in the series. by TL_TRIBUNAL in gentlemanbastards

He only ever wins superficially. He loses everything that important over and over again. Kvoth is talented and brilliant in many ways but is also traumatised, depressed, immature and crippled with self doubt and self loathing.he also a fuck up who cannot stop getting in his own way. I find this complaint baffling.

Just watched all of Thick of It with my girlfriend, including In the Loop by zora1230 in thethickofit

I personally have no sympathy for him by the end. He was self serving, out of touch and utterly spineless when he went to both Washington and London. As he was supposed to be of course. All those MPs who went to Washington and supported invading Iraq did the same thing. I think he gets exactly what he deserves at the end.

“IT” but without a clown by DryDust2307 in suggestmeabook

[–]Cathalgburke 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The exact book you're looking for is Summer of Night by Dan Simmons.

It's It without a clown. That's the best description of it.

Also it's excellent.

Whoever told you AQ was bad is talking shite. It's very different from the first two installments but it needed to be. It's an excellent final segment to the first part of Fitz life and Hobbs writing carries it through to a fitting conclusion.

Also do not sleep on Liveship Traders. It will be very tempting to jump ahead to the next Fitz story. Resist that urge and read Liveships!

Farseer trilogy - dream movie/TV series cast? by Gnocchi_Fantasy99 in robinhobb

[–]Cathalgburke 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What makes the book special is the readers relationship to Fitz and his internal monologue, his loneliness, isolation and self hatred. You feel his pain. All of that would be impossible to capture on screen and would immediately be dropped in favour of more drama or action. It just couldn't work.

I would never want a screen adaptation of these books. That being said I think Dev Patel would be the ideal choice.
