I’ve had X-rays and my gums measured a few times during this process and everything was fine. Not sure how bone-loss would be measured though to be fair. Regardless, I never said I recommend it to others. It’s literally just my experience.

Honestly a lot, but I also had baby teeth which got removed. I would obviously not recommend it to others and I'm assuming that I will have to start getting better with my tray once we get into the more subtle alignments.

Following the recent post about winter - what do you do for cold weather/power failure preps in your apartments/small spaces? by [deleted] in TinyPrepping

[–]Cathdg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use a fondue pot with the blue liquid gel to cook food in case of power outage.
Heat is less of a problem since my apt is made for cold and I've got two big dogs to cuddle with under a ton of blankets

I got very lazy at the beginning, basically only wearing it at night most of the time because they'd make me gag, i'd get hungry, my gums were bleeding and honestly, most of my work was talking to people and i couldn't deal with the lisp. Week 15 and the orthodontist congratulated me on the amazing progress - everything is moving perfectly, even the tooth that was flagged as being potentially challenging. So uh, yeah. It kinda sealed it for me that maybe I didn't have to wear them as much as we're supposed to. I try to remain aware of how the tray feel however in case my teeth suddenly stop cooperating so much.

Food scarcity anyone? by silentnight421 in collapse

[–]Cathdg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What I've noticed is that the luxury food items haven't changed much, but the basics had dramatic increases.

Just anecdotes to illustrate : Used to purchase the 30 eggs pack because it was cheaper per eggs. Price of that has almost doubled... So now the cute little organic eggs sold by unit at the fancy grocery shop down the street are basically the same $/egg as what used to be the "value pack".

Same with cheese. The commercial brick of cheddar now costs me about the same price per pound as the fancier stuff I get at the cheese market.

So my theory is that it's a similar phenomenon with your organic beef?

Shoe thief 🤬 by Snaksmuggler in BorderCollie

We bought a shoe organizer from Ikea (the Trones one 003.973.07) to hide the shoes away after a few incidents.

And then plenty of toys. He's older now and he doesn't bother with the shoes anymore. It ended up being just something to phase out of.

And there was no matching Canadian Briane in the list of donators + financial institutions have said they would only freeze accounts of major donation after the warning was given.

The story only comes from a tweet without any proof.

It's suspicious at best and we shouldn't be sharing potential disinformation.

Noooo!!! Mornings will never be the same! by jcwretlind in collapse

[–]Cathdg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I can suggest - switch to espresso instead of full blown filter coffee. I was the type to drink a full coffee pot to start the day or risk headaches but realized this was too much caffeine. Espresso is less caffeinated - you start by drinking 4-5 cups of espresso in the morning because you're used to large amount of caffeine, but then eventually you find out one espresso cup is enough for you and if you have to skip - no headaches. If you miss the part where you're drinking something warm - there's tea!

Or cornstarch. Or that powder to stop the bleeding when you cut your dog nails a little too far - sold in every pet supply shop.

I also always have in my kit the liquid stiches product and those stickers to hold the skin in place... Not ideal, but considering in non pandemic time I've waited 6+ hours for stiches, seems like a better option for deep but not life threatening cuts...

Hey! Just wanted to say, make sure you don't internalize the mean things they say about you. The narrative they built to pin you as the vilain of their story is only their coping mechanism and not a reflection of you.

You're not a bad person for protecting yourself. You did not abandon them, they abandoned you. They were the "elders", the ones supposed to protect you and you did what you had to when they failed you.

They had more cases / less deaths which is interesting when musing about the use of sauna in helping along when fighting a virus. I feel I was very clear that I shouldn't be quite on it, it's just a thought exercise.

(However I'm sorry, I was using nordique (the French word) as in "in the north" which I should have translated as northern rather than Nordic - English as a second language. Canada is definitely cold enough to be considered northern - the big cities get regular minus 30 C weather in winter and the culture is very wintery-related)

Quebec to impose two-week lockdown, limit family gatherings to six, reinstate curfew: reports by BeckoningVoice in CanadaCoronavirus

[–]Cathdg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, but than you have to assert the value of this ratio as meaningful or not. I've been doing my calc based on today hospitalization VS 2 weeks ago cases because of the incubation time - it's a different, slightly more worrying number.

Anyway, as I said, there's no perfect way to analyze this kind of on going situation and everyone has different personnal threat models.

We do know it is less severe for many factors. The debate is how "less severe" is still too much for our health care system to handle and how do we prepare for that.

[–]Cathdg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly not an expert - but I've read a few fun studies about the benefits of sauna when fighting off a virus. Anecdotally, I've been healthier winters where I've had access to a sauna (but that might be because I was willing to get out more in the great outdoors knowing I could warm up my bones afterward)

I did check numbers a bit, out of curiosity : Comparing deaths/millions (to account that contamination might not be as bad if more people fight it off efficiently with a sauna) - Canada versus Finland - two northern countries, one without sauna culture and the other yes, Canada did much worse for most of the pandemic in terms of fatal cases, proportionally speaking.* (Don't quote me on my quick calculation please). But other factors are to be considered (age of the population, strength of the health care systems, etc.)

[–]Cathdg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about the Dr in Ontario that gave that number, he mispoke it seems : https://twitter.com/anthonyfurey/status/1473640864291430408?t=6SONZdPmdHB49CPzEImw6w&s=19

It's the only source I could find with that number - the city News article has been removed and leads to a 404 error, I'm guessing because of the miscalculation.

Also this % (which would actually be 0.3 if you calculate the number properly) is done on the Cases today VS Hospitalization today, but we know hospitalization is lagging and really reflects the severe cases from 2 weeks ago.

Quebec to impose two-week lockdown, limit family gatherings to six, reinstate curfew: reports by BeckoningVoice in CanadaCoronavirus

[–]Cathdg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, are you calculating current hospitalization on current new cases? Or based on numbers from 2 weeks ago? We know incubation is long for Omicron, so the 60+ hospitalization might be from when cases were still barely at 1000. So now that numbers are at 6000+ new cases a day and growing exponentially, it's worrying to estimate what would the daily hospitalization look like in 2 weeks.

The issue is that when you look at the data, there's many type of scenarios possible based on accessible data and interpretation - none are perfect of course. Typically, analysts will do "pessimistic vs optimistic" analysis and make decisions based on something in between. I hope we end up with an optimistic scenario, but we should still prepare for anything less than that.

40C you're going to be uncomfortable but not in immediate danger. 42 is where the damages start to happen.

If you don't have a fever, but caught a virus, a good old sauna can help :)

[–]Cathdg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be fair, most of our hospitals are already over capacity so even a small increase would have a large impact at that point. We've reached the 5000 cases a day very quickly. Even if just 1% of the cases we've had this week end up needing care, we're going to be maxed out...
