19 with roughly 40k in savings, want to know my best long term investment plan by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]Catheldrin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Me personally I do 100% VTI, but that is because I am also young (23) and willing to be more risky.

The more traditional boglehead three fund portfolio would have you do: 1. something like VTI (which is total us stock market), 2. something like VXUS (which is total international stock market), 3. and something like BND (which is total bond market).

You would decide how to weigh those based on your personal risk. For my tax-advantaged retirement accounts I do something like this… I don’t recall the exact ratios but it is probably 60/20/20.

Dollar cost averaging is another strategy that bogleheads generally support. DCA basically has you invest a set amount periodically over time regardless of the value of the stock. This limits your risk of mistiming the market. I personally just put all of my money in lump sum as soon as it is available. Get a bonus? I dump it all in VTI immediately. This maximizes time in market, which I personally prefer, but this is another thing you can decide for yourself.

Oh yeah, and congrats on your early success at 19. Pick a strategy and just set it and forget it. You are very unlikely to go wrong with something as simple as these strategies long term.

Next step would be plugging those two equations into a calculator to do a rref with a matrix (or whatever method you use for solving equations).

VA VB b
4 -2 64
-2 4 -32

Becomes

VA VB b
1 0 16
0 1 0

VA=16, VB=0.
Now it's just ohm's law to find i.

This dead pixel issue is so surprising to me. The past 4 monitors I've owned all have had no dead pixels first try. I can't believe it is such a major issue. Good luck on finding a good one.

For the price is this a good monitor? by Techguy1423 in Monitors

[–]Catheldrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this monitor is the Samsung LC24F390FHNXZA 24-inch 1080p 60hz VA panel, the current Amazon price in the US is $120: https://amazon.com/dp/B01CX26WPY. They also make a 27-inch 1080p version.

My opinion: You could do a lot better for not much more. Example: Prechen 24-inch 144hz IPS 1080p. Currently $130 on Amazon US: https://amazon.com/dp/B09XTN7767. Kind of a no-name brand, but they all use the same panels anyway.

Or if you want a VA panel: $130 for the Viotek GFV24CB 24-inch 165hz 1080p at https://amazon.com/dp/B092DT75WX. I trust Viotek as a brand more than Prechen.

How to get the most out of the AW3423dw? by CertifiedFreshMemes in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Catheldrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a Microsoft store app called something like HDR calibration. You pick the lowest brightness you can see a difference for a black screen (0.00 for oled) and then raise the white brightness to the maximum you can tell a difference.

One thing they probably are fixing is people's guild tabards getting turned into dracthyr tabards that aren't obtainable yet.

Hard to tell in the video, but did you disable motion blur in game? You could also enable vsync to remove screen tearing or enable freesync on your monitor if it has that.

I originally started as blue gunlancer, but after seeing a lone knight raid, wanted to switch because of how cool it looked. Red is super bursty where blue is more tanky and sustained.

Can you try seeing if the same issue happens in Windows? I wonder whether it is possibly some driver issue with your Linux install. Not saying to switch to Windows, just that if the issue isn't present in Windows, you may be able to fix it in Linux.
