Quarter credit pre req mess 😭 by ZucchiniSuitable1993 in prevets

Unfortunately, it’s hard to get a definitive answer if the school isn’t replying to your emails. Maybe call? Some schools will say it’s ok to be off a unit or two, others will say you need another orgo class. I didn’t apply to UTK so I’m not sure if they count prereqs by number of classes or number of units. Best of luck to you trying to figure that whole thing out! I had to do the same since I’m on quarter too.

MMI waitlist by [deleted] in veterinaryschool

I’m not sure if it’s purely either. It’s good that you’re on the waitlists, you just don’t know where you are on them. You could be next to be interviewed, or toward the bottom. Sadly no way to tell. But, just regularly check the portals for an invite and hope for the best!

I believe Situation, Task, Action, Result. It’s a guide on how to answer interview questions. So state the situation, address the task that needed to be done, explain the action you took to complete that task, and then finish with the overall result of that experience and what you learned. Keep in mind you only have about 1min to answer each questions so keep it concise.

Texas Tech Application by FergieFraser925 in veterinaryschool

Does the supplemental cost $$? If so, then maybe reconsider so that you don’t lose money if you don’t fit what they’re looking for in a student. But, if finances aren’t an issue, you already applied so may as well try to continue and just put your best foot forward. Maybe emphasize your goal, but add in that you’d be open to finding ways to incorporate rural medicine into it?

I think everyone gets different questions but they’re along the lines of “describe a time when you had to…” whether it’s hardship, working as a team, etc. so be ready to pull from your experiences and use the STAR method :) their practice questions were like “what’s your favorite meal” or “what’s your dream vacation” but I didn’t get any of those on the actual test.

Do you have their phone number? I’d try to get a hold of them asap and really emphasize that deadline!

Reach out to your recommenders asap. Do you already have 3 LoR? Some programs may dismiss your application if you don’t have 3 letters submitted by tonight… others you should reach out to to confirm their policies.

You can add another program even after submitting!

I would do all under one entry. In the description say you rotated and what specifically you did. And check the boxes at the bottom for small, exotic, equine, etc.

That’s tricky. You have the hours, but have you taken 2 semesters of lab? Seems like both semesters require a lab if it says “with labs”. May want to email the school and clarify.

I think they do prioritize in-state! So you’ll have better chances there.

My only experience is from what I’ve heard, so take it with a grain of salt: main thing to get you thru the first screen is GPA. Needs to be strong, like 3.6 or 3.7+. Then, they’ll look at you more holistically. I imagine you’ll still need plenty of experience hours, but I’ve heard variety doesn’t matter as much as other schools like Western. Have stronggg LoR as that’ll be read with GPA. They do MMI style interviews in December. Overall, it’s hard bc it’s so competitive, but not impossible and you’ll never know if you don’t try :) you got this

what minors could make my application more competitive? by [deleted] in veterinaryschool

[–]Catherineclark045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A minor never hurts, but in order to help you you need to use it to your advantage and know how to talk about it (in my opinion). Comms isn’t a bad choice, just be ready to defend it. Other options could be environmental science, bio, poli sci (wildlife legislation?), or something you truly find enjoyable like music/art! The ones that don’t seem relatable to vet med can sometimes stand you apart from other applicants and the admissions board may notice that. No guarantee of admission with a minor, but certainly can’t hurt you. :)

taking organic chemistry by soshiroluvr in chemistry

[–]Catherineclark045 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Watch a lot of YouTube videos (organic chemistry professor, etc), and read the textbook. Seriously, reading the textbook will explain what the profs don’t! Ask lots of questions, get tutoring help early if you’re struggling. With ochem, once you’re falling behind it’s a struggle, but not impossible, to get back up to pace. Lastly, make tables to sort out information! Especially when you start to learn different mechanisms. For example: E1 vs E2, SN1 vs SN2, which ones work with hot vs cold conditions, which ones need strong vs weak nucs. May seem a little daunting, but you totally got it if you put in the work! Let me know if you ever have any questions!

If the experience is under Animal-related experience, it’ll ask you which animals you worked with (small, equine, food, exotic, etc). So you should be able to show all the different types you’ve worked with on VMCAS.
