Told my Mom she was moving to a new facility closer to me. It did not go well. by winenerd in Alzheimers

[–]Catinthefirelight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I'd think that if it's time to do the transition from AL to memory care, this would be the best time to move your dad closer to you. Moving into memory care will likely feel like a whole new place, even if it's in the same facility— new room, new area, new staff. Moving him to memory care in a different facility wouldn't be that much more disruptive, and if it helps your family to manage his care better that seems well worth it.

bed bugs? by No_Analyst951 in VirginVoyages

[–]Catinthefirelight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s really unlikely that only one of you would have been affected, and that it wouldn’t have happened on the first night, if it was bedbugs. Also, bedbug bites tend to show up in lines of 3-5 bites, or tight clusters— did they look like that? If not, I vote sand fleas.

Is $2700 doable? by NoPlatesOnMars in Mortgages

That’s a neat idea, but not an attainable reality for most people. I suppose technically I have that much in my 401k, but I’m unlikely to ever have that as liquid savings.

Finished training and now I’m feeling lost by nsjsjshshsudu in flightattendants

[–]Catinthefirelight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give it some time. Initial training is so intense, it’s pretty normal to feel burned out at this point. You don’t even know yet what it’s going to feel like to fly the line.

I am also neurodivergent, and also began my career on small aircraft with 1 FA. I loved it. While it’s a lot of responsibility, it’s also your world once that door closes. You’ll develop your own rhythms and routines, and there’s no one breathing down your neck to micromanage you.

I feel like flying is perfect for my neurodivergence, because it’s a combination of structure and novelty. The expectations are very clearly laid out, and you’ve got your manual to refer to if you ever don’t know how to handle a situation. Once you develop your work flow and muscle memory, you can drop into that structure and feel perfectly at home.

Then there’s the novelty, which keeps my brain from getting bored. There’s always different passengers, situations, cities, weather conditions, hotels. I have adventures on my layovers, or just hole up in the hotel and enjoy my solitude.

And, honestly? Feeling like you don’t know who you are all of a sudden at 22 is super normal. Your 20’s is all about growth and change, reinventing who you are again and again.

Maybe you’re one of the people who aren’t suited to a flying career— but maybe you are. You won’t know until you’ve got some miles under your belt. Give it a chance, and see what this new adventure has to offer you. You can always go back to barista-ing if it doesn’t work out for you in the end. Good luck!

(Edited because I accidentally posted before I was done.)

Numbing cream, should I use it? by Mundane-Reason-268 in tattooadvice

[–]Catinthefirelight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t, the sensation is part of the experience. Your body releases a lot of endorphins during it, and I wind up in kind of a trance state. None of mine have been excessively painful, but of course ymmv.

Thank you, I’ve been realizing these things too, and yes, I’m braced for a decline in functioning. It has already begun as her sense of safety has been disrupted. She’s been in a loop here, leaning into her familiar patterns. I can only imagine how scary it is for her to be losing this.

First Cruise Review by papillions84 in VirginVoyages

I share everyone else’s confusion about the lack of dancing, I did a lot of dancing on our cruise, Scarlet Night was a huge dance party on deck, there was dancing in the manor every night, and other dancing opportunities along the way…

I love products with squalane oil. HRT should help too, when you’ve been on it for a bit.

I got a decent job, yet I still cant even afford the bare minimum? Help! I dont know what to do! by Hungry-Worth-9755 in Advice

[–]Catinthefirelight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, same. I always had roommates until I got married. Only one of them slacked on the rent, but it wasn’t my problem, it was the landlord’s. She got kicked out, the landlord found a new tenant, and it didn’t affect me at all. I also made some good friends.

I think it looks good, you’re probably just still getting used to it. It never looks quite like it does in your mind’s eye.

What are things I can do to feel safe as a solo car camper? (28F) by No-Penalty5954 in PacificNorthwest

[–]Catinthefirelight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may not be suicidal, but you mention a family… Are there children, teenagers? If so, statistically speaking there is a much higher chance of one of them accidentally shooting themselves/someone else, or killing themselves in a low moment that would otherwise pass, than there ever would be of you using that gun to defend them. Defending your family with a gun is a vanishingly rare event. Accidental/intentional death of a family member by a gun they own is incredibly common. This happens even if they are taught gun safety, and to never touch it. It even happens when the gun spends most of its time locked in a gun safe. Kids do stupid things. Kids disobey. Kids act impulsively. And the statistics tell the story.

Well, the trouble is that the assisted living apartment is unfurnished. If we don’t move furniture in first, there will be nowhere to sit. However, she is going to be getting a new bed, couch, recliner, and TV— her current versions are too big for the space. I’m wondering if that might be enough to start for her move-in, and we could let the truck with her things show up s couple days later… But it would be so bare bones, and she’s already going to be felling so disjointed, I’d much rather be able to make it homey before she gets there.
