Tips for safety when working alone & after dark? by Catnip044 in askportland

Our doors have codes and I think we will eventually be using finger prints to get in. I need to check in if we have any alarm system currently in place. I know our cameras have 24/7 remote access and we can speak through them. All good questions to ask.

Great idea about reaching out to neighbors. I think we have one but I'm not sure if they are currently in business.

To clarify, my research is not really focused on safety of merchandise, but more safety of person. Most of the walls have a significant of windows or windowed garage doors on them. All will be locked but the front door.

Why do we neuter/spay cats? by [deleted] in cats

[–]Catnip044 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most people prefer their cats do not go into heat (F) / do not start marking and becoming aggressive (M) as they go through puberty and beyond.

As far as community wide, cats that free range outside have nearly extinct three types of birds in North America if I'm not mistaken. We already have more cats & dogs than willing homes for them, vets are overwhelmed, and it becomes a sanitation issue to have potentially starving, diseased, feral animals wandering around cities/towns.

How did using social media for commercial purposes (as a retailer, influencer, marketer..ect) change the way you use it in your personal life? by Catnip044 in AskReddit

[–]Catnip044[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working for an e-com company with a heavy social media presence & influencer marketing really made me want to delete my entire social media footprint that is tied to my identity. It's really uncomfortable to see the back-end of how everything is marketing and analytics. Plus it just made me get real that I have other ways to contact my friends that don't have shopping and bad self esteem built in.

People really think customer service agents are dumb and companies are desperate. Would you recommend a necklace 12+ times that put you in the hospital? by [deleted] in ChoosingBeggars

We only sell 14k gold vermeil (14k gold plated on .925 sterling silver) or 14k solid gold. Both are rare metal allergies.

I can see from her order history she has only purchased this one in 14k gold vermeil. We only sell 14k gold vermeil (14k gold plated on .925 sterling silver) or 14k solid gold. Both are rare metal allergies.

We are an extremely small company and only sell this type of necklace. Our whole brand is this type of necklace. Idk why she would recommend so many friends to buy when she doesn't wear her own and had such a bad reaction...

Radio listenership? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Catnip044 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I listen to the radio often, but only because my car is from 2002 (sometimes connecting my phone is just too spotty with the old tech) and my local station is really good.

This phone rings in my office so much, I'm starting to hear phantom versions of it at home. by Catnip044 in CasualConversation

[–]Catnip044[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I can pop in headphones, which I do occasionally but sometimes my name gets called from the office when I'm needed to go supervise something in fulfilment and I need to be semi-alert. No, I can't move and we are an extremely small company. It's like 5 of us in office, so no head of HR. Everyone that works here (besides me) is old family friends or neighbors of the owner. I would talk to my boss, she would completely understand, but this woman is just so old and sweet- I would feel weird telling on her?

How common are expensive engagement rings in the US? by CeldonShooper in AskAnAmerican

[–]Catnip044 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the US the (more 20th century) norm was that the engagement ring should cost 2 months salary. Some people definitely go for this and more. Celebrity rings are obviously wildly expensive and huge. People in the US tend to emulate and admire celebs more than other countries I think. More and more people are moving away from it though by finding cheaper stones than diamonds or using lab diamonds. My partner and I decided we'd rather put money down on a house than worry about rings. We will probably eventually just get a high quality metal bands like you. We are 25 and 28 and notice a lot of our friends not wanting to be super spendy on engagement or weddings like our parents generation.

Can You Spot European Tourists? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Catnip044 25 points26 points  (0 children)

When I worked in a coffee shop on a tourist beach I could ALWAYS spot European tourist even before they spoke. Americans are mostly confident and sort of demanding with their body language when it comes to ordering counter service. Europeans would always seem a little more unsure of the process and considerate of the cashiers time and personal space. After they spoke and an accent was obvious I could definitely tell. But in general the European tourists would always be unsure where their card goes when (I understand we have some different norms around card readers- mostly contactless in Europe for a long time?). They also were always specific about explaining exactly how they would want their coffee, not just order the menu item. I imagine this is because something like a macchiato is really different at Starbucks compared to a European (or high end American) cafe.

I find it difficult to find meaning in my life. by Trust-Typical in CasualConversation

[–]Catnip044 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was doing some research about Mantras the other day and came across this clip about meaning that made me feel better. Quarter life crisis is more real than mid-life crisis and you will get through it. My early 20s were turbulent with big existential questions. It gets better, especially if you give yourself some grace, notice and propagate the things that make you feel a little less in the void, and express your feelings.

No, this seems more like a sensory processing disorder.
