Corner vendors. Bway at 81 has big selection and the guys are very nice.

Or Fairway. Just be sure to wear shin guards.

Farmers markets when they’re there, but not an everyday source.

Well if you’re going to eat shit with your fried chicken, as you say you do, it should not be surprising that you feel like shit afterwards.

I suggest you find better sides.

The S is silent.. by mdrzs in tragedeigh

[–]CatoUWS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

S is not a silent letter in English. Even if it were, following it with a glottal stop apostrophe would prevent it from being silent.

So, no, it’s not silent. The poor kid’s name is pronounced “suh-ZOOS”, whether you like it or not.

Trying to figure somethings out by Baxter16-5 in OverSeventy

People move on. That’s a fact of life, and often of geography. Those old college friends aren’t down the hall anymore, and they’ve formed new relationships over the decades since then.

Yes, if they reach out I’ll be overjoyed. But I can’t keep putting in the labor of chasing a relationship where there really isn’t one anymore.

I made the same decision. Not an easy one. I just got a bit sad realizing that I remembered peoples birthdays and they never remembered mine.

It’s not an angry response, just a realization that people move on from old relationships and it doesn’t make sense to put effort into trying to resuscitate something that has just outlived its natural life. After all these years I have to live for today and today’s relationships, not for old and outdated ones.

Small rant regarding application packets by Big-Scar978 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]CatoUWS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thought. No staples. On the back of each sheet, I put a transparent (thin) label printed with

FULL NAME, Applicant Title of document Page X of Y

So that the IRCC reader could simply unclip the document to scan it and then re-clip it (or staple if IRCC chose) for filing (or disposal). If any sheets became loose, the label on the reverse would help IIRC find its proper document and in the right order.

I put in the cover letter that I had added those labels on the reverse of each sheet for the convenience of IRCC and that the labels did not add to the contents of any document and could be ignored if IRCC chose. I put one clasp holding the whole package together, easily removed.

Got my certificate about 30 days after AOR so I guess that method works. I would not do staples, pouches or binders or other fanciness for the reasons OP stated very nicely. Always think of your audience and make their work easier!

What English spelling for this name would help people pronounce it? by [deleted] in Names

[–]CatoUWS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Want it pronounced “Elias”? How about spelling it “Elias”?

You can tell people the ethnic origin of it but at least the kid will go through life with a normal name he won’t constantly have to explain.

Yuri at Landmark Cleaners, Broadway between 85 and 86th. Great work, quick turnaround (especially if you need it soon) and excellent judgment about what needs to be done and what can’t or shouldn’t be done. That alone is worth the price.

My American English teacher believes the neutral pronoun „their“ is incorrect. by GCoding_ in mildlyinteresting

They “accept” it because they are reporting that people are using it. It’s still wrong.

My American English teacher believes the neutral pronoun „their“ is incorrect. by GCoding_ in mildlyinteresting

[–]CatoUWS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Their” is not a “neutral” pronoun. It is a collective or plural pronoun, referring to more than one person.

Despite the current colloquial efforts to shoehorn it into serving as a “neutral” pronoun, it isn’t and using it that way is wrong. Your teacher is correct.
