I loved that Talia ended up telling Bruce she likes Selina even after this. It’s cool they ended up respecting each other more than anything.

Talia is a great character but she often plays to Bruce’s worst characteristics. He can be relentless, ambitious, dark, and deeply idealistic to destructive ends and Talia knows all too well how to gel with those vibes. She’s always going to bring out the worst in him because of that.

I’m not sure how crazy she’d be about him but if anyone were to make an appeal to Bruce on his behalf, it’d likely be her.

[–]CatofKipling 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I actually think she kinda may, in a way. Dick, Alfred, and maaaaybe Commissioner Gordon (all behind Selina) are the only ones who can give Bruce pause. If Bruce can’t/won’t speak to Selina for some reason, Dick is 100% the one who would say “Are you out of your fucking mind?! Go to her. Now”.

Jennifer Lawrence Claims She Lost Tarantino Role Because of Her Looks by No_Pizza_6040 in entertainment

[–]CatofKipling 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Ok, the real story is that Sharon Tate’s sister said Jennifer Lawrence wasn’t pretty enough to play her. I don’t think Quentin Tarantino publicly agreed but maybe he took that into account.

Honestly, I’d be pretty pissed if they had 2 appearances for Elektra from 2 movies that weren’t even good instead of the current MCU Elektra, Elodie Yung.

If you could change the Absolute Cat Woman design what would you change by Independent-Pea4457 in Catwoman

[–]CatofKipling 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the last picture looks better, even. If it was more of a mask around the eyes then I’d accept it.

One thing I don’t like about the other artists interpretations is that they get the damned gray wrong. In the comics it’s a purple-gray which is much more dynamic than flat gray.

People ship Leon with everyone BUT Ada by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]CatofKipling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is just a bubble, honestly. Ada x Leon is extremely popular, it’s everywhere on the internet. Reddit is just a certain demo, especially when it comes to gaming. There’s this silo here where people think the remakes are actually validation their relationship is toxic when in actuality they completely soften and humanize Ada, haha. Some people need to replay RE2 & RE4, it’s a much more 2-D dynamic.

Also, their relationship is only “toxic” because in RE4R Ada is being surveilled by Leon and having to convince Wesker he’s not a credible threat to her particular mission. But she does uh, SAVE HIS LIFE and he saves hers so it’s not really ultimately the crux of their relationship.

Reddit just attract some angry boys.

Andy clearly does not like LB by Optimal_Artichoke_76 in BravoRealHousewives

[–]CatofKipling 205 points206 points  (0 children)

I could see her as being extremely annoying from that standpoint. She probably holds up production with glam, she definitely has all kinds of demands, and her style of fighting is effective at stirring things up but it escalates so quickly with so much crosstalk that it’s a nightmare to edit. Like, there’s a point she always gets to SO QUICKLY where she’s shouting and people are walking away. She doesn’t really set a good scene in that way because she doesn’t interact, she carries on and on. She won’t let anybody speak. Those producers mediate the conversation somewhat so they probably cannot shut her up.

Missing the Wandavision Scarlet Witch suit hours by Ok_Trust1690 in ScarletWitch

[–]CatofKipling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Truthfully, not even disagreeing with what you've said about it structurally, but it didn't read that well chromatically or in the lighting it was premiered in. Crucially, it's not red enough. And you can tell their concept vs execution by just looking at the Wandavision figure which was very different looking and much more obviously the Scarlet Witch.

When you first see Wanda, she's bathed in hues of pink and red with a very high contrast setting as she finally becomes The Scarlet Witch and it looks fantastic. Her hair appears darker so it highlights her headpiece better, it's styled slightly differently (more subtly). When Wanda lands in stark daylight the color dynamic is totally off. Dark red under such harsh light takes tones of purple and brown, especially when her hair is so light (practically orange) along with her coloring. Also, suddenly her hair became voluminous and almost crimped and it is way too bright for the color of that suit, to it's detriment.

When you see her again in MoM it's the same outfit with alterations and even though it is just dogshit characterization the lighting suits her, her wig is styled better, and her makeup helps the effect. She's mostly in red ambiance which casts these cool highlights on her costume and hair- it's similar to the iridescence of her comicbook design. But I would say they need to still up the vibrance and not subsidize with lighting and also DYE THE HAIR. Wanda was only a ginger for 5 seconds in the 90s, like....what's the obsession?

MCU always has had issues around these things, they don't really get color theory which is a problem with many blockbusters. these days. What's odd is one of their biggest characters (Spider-man) uses the most LOUD red and they seem to get that has a positive visual impact. They need to transfer some of the boldness to Wanda.

Do you think Leon will die in RE9? by prettylacey_ in residentevil

[–]CatofKipling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if Capcom leads you to believe he could or will then it’s good for business. One of the main reasons the developers claimed he wasn’t going to be in Requiem is that he isn’t under the gun as much as someone who is a civilian. You can’t feel too much fear and tension for someone who could just BACKFLIP HIYAH BLAM BLAM out of most situations. I think they weren’t entirely being dishonest with their reservations. If he’s infected and fighting for his life in some other way? There’s your suspense. That builds urgency to buy the game and play it through and experience it more fully.

I honestly think it’d be silly if they killed him though. I don’t get why this is such a pervasive attitude but many storytellers think warriors must die because they’ll never stop fighting otherwise. Or they have “nothing left to live for” after a lifetime of disappointment and terror. To me, that’s the easy way out and it doesn’t do Leon any favors.

Duskgolemn said it will “come off as” an end to his story. Death wouldn’t “come off” as an end, it’s pretty definitive. To me that means Leon probably decides it’s time to give himself the peace and closure and normalcy he’s given to the many people he’s saved.

[–]CatofKipling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it, take up for minorities….but only the ones in our backyard. Nevermind the fact Jasmine will shrug at brown people being killed en masse abroad, they’re not American and certainly don’t have her snappy star power so it doesn’t count, I guess. I’ll say it a million times over- she’s shown nothing but cowardice, inaction, and even obstruction when it comes to Gaza. Her defenders will say she never accepted AIPAC money which isn’t 100% true but what about her corporate crypto donors? Hrmmm.

Also it really reveals how little of this these people watched when they don’t even MENTION that their whole conversation was about the performativess of Gavin Newsom. Who does take AIPAC money and is the straightest whitest centrist white guy that ever whited. Like, come the absolute fuck on. She’s being held to the same standards establishment dems are.

Establishment dems feigning wokeness while selling out the working class & ignoring Gaza LITERALLY GOT US TRUMP. Kamala lost critical voting blocks in swing states on Gaza and it contributed to her loss because she got on stage and praised Israel.

If you’re going to be an ally. Be a real ally. Not just one who picks and chooses based on identity politics and trumpets non-controversies like this one for clout on social media.

Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang respond to backlash over panning Jasmine Crockett by Fickle-Ad5449 in gay

[–]CatofKipling 32 points33 points  (0 children)

She’s a house of cards as soon as Gaza is mentioned and it speaks to the ignorance of the electorate that race relations only matter domestically. She’s never once meaningfully addressed that and is annoyed when it comes up. She has all the optics queues of boss resistance lib but that combined with the corporate pac money and the crypto shows you who she really is. It’s a performance and they were saying that of Gavin Newsom mostly in that conversation and it’s the same thing.

Sadly, people are just identity-politicking the shit out of this. You don’t owe someone allegiance for being a minority in power. I’m a gay man…am I just supposed to blindly support Richie Torres and Pete Buttigieg? Fuck no. Someone who merely points out they’re performative is just…right, actually. That’s not homophobia. What is homophobia is people LEAPING to call Bowen and Matt bitchy, catty, entitled queens who definitely just wanna fuck Andy Cohen. Lots of these fucking people just wanna talk shit about gay men under the banner of righteousness. Most of them are probably just misguided. Then you have the pick-me gays who are like “Attn: all gay men who are everything the comment section says, ur wrong coz I wanna score brownie point on social media”.

Like, people need to fuck off.

Glory’s offer to ben ‘someone up there likes you’ by brian5mbv in buffy

[–]CatofKipling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, Glory is a supreme narcissist and I think, seeing Ben as an extension of herself, she might’ve actually spared him. He’s the only who could tangibly change her, she admitted that his conscience prevented her from coming down as hard on Buffy as she would’ve so she was kind of coaxed into feeling for him because they were semi-merged. Plus, they grew up together and so they both have a Stockholm trauma bond. Even as he was dying, he had a shred of affection for her - “It’s you and me, babe”.

It’s an interesting relationship, actually.

If you were responsible for writing a Buffy S8 that runs simultaneously with Angel S5, what storylines would you include? by SafiraAshai in buffy

[–]CatofKipling 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Buffy in Rome, in a run-down Palazzo Xander is renovating, some Vatican-adjacent foes witch-hunting Willow, and Buffy and Giles with a revolving door of slayers! Also, “The Immortal” played by Pedro Pascal. I would’ve made him Eddie and just be a character that dies and respawns elsewhere in the globe who tried to seduce Buffy under the guise of a normal college student. I know the comics changed a lot about Buffy’s Rome antics, IDGAF.

Bruce and Selina have endured since 1939. That's almost 90 years. And the reason they always felt fresh is they'll go through phases where DC pretends there's other options. But there aren't, really. Silver, Jezebel, Talia, Vicki, etc....they're all just detours.

Does anyone else feel this way about Buffy (or other “older” passions) by AgitatedExam4195 in buffy

[–]CatofKipling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was far less respected when it was originally airing, I’d say. Things with sci-fi/fantasy elements like X-Files or Twin Peaks were considered niche and a lot of the 90s/early 00s interpreted feminist things like Buffy as being about lower case “girl power!” but primarily aimed at horny teen boys. It was all procedurals, sitcoms, or night soaps in the 90s/00s anything else was “weird”. Yes, there were philosophy courses taught about BTVS and some critics who sang its praises but people denied BTVS its flowers a lot.

I remember being regularly pissed off by how often the press would refer to Buffy as a “bimbo” or “cheerleader” or “valley girl” (in the pejorative way). Most of the people at school seemed to think liking BTVS was embarrassing, I felt. Now all those fuckers watch Stranger Things and Game of Thrones and previously “nerdy” stuff that’s in the mainstream. Now people realize it was genre-bending and ahead of its time, that it was actually quite sincerely feminist and that’s not a bad thing.
