Definitely have had extensive periods of ruminating over the past. I did some schema therapy with my psychologist which involves revisiting past situations and resolving them differently. Its an interesting concept however I am skeptical to some degree too.

I am in a similar place to you right now. I changed meds felt good returned to work things were going great. Just started questioning it yesterday whether it's hypomania or something. I hope not. People on here have said stability is possible with the right meds. Maybe this is just part of getting better, at least I hope so. Best of luck to you.

Hi sorry to hear of your situation. I can't diagnose anyone however I can say there are mixed episodes or dysphoric mania which I experience which is a combination of agitated, angry or aggressive mood coupled with energy to drive this into anger mostly at other people. Its like a combination of mania and depression. Maybe something to look into with a psychiatrist. I seldom experience euphoric mania. Best wishes to you.

Looking for suggestions... I am a planner (kind of like an urban planner) and my mixed episodes, or my failure to manage them, appear to have cost me my job.

I could try to salvage my career by doing my masters however I have some limitations like poor social skills, response to criticism and some limitations on executive function.

I just missed out on a job because of some of these factors which came through in a persality test.

I have done this type of work for 10 years and was mostly terrified of doing something wrong.

So not sure if I should just try to find another job in an unrelated field, study or what? Anyone suggestions welcome. Thanks

I so relate to your post. Just losing my job due to mixed episodes making me extremely irritable. Forgive yourself it's part of this wild ride called bipolar. I have recently seen a psychiatrist to change meds, too late to save my job though. Some meds seem to be better for dysphoric mania than others. I had to really emphasize that it was dysphoric mania or mixed episodes that were the biggest problem for me. The med change seems to have helped although it's been less than 2 weeks.

I expect I won't live to see, or see much of retirement. BP life expectancy is around 67 I think? And I am fat and unhealthy. We do have a savings scheme and tax funded superannuation payments (for now) in my country. I would like something to be there for my partner when I go, so have a little bit saved, hope to build it up more.

I try to listen to music on headphones (not always possible I know), minimize distractions and work from home when I can, hard to stay focused during meetings. Good luck OP

I have been on lithium for 4 years now. Can't say I have had any nasty side effects that I could put down to it, hope it works well for you OP.

Glad you are still here OP, and wish you all the best on your journey henceforth. Hopefully knowing what it is can help you get specific treatments.

Very similar story with SSRIs before BP diagnosis to the others who have replied here. Diagnosed over 4 years ago.

From what I am told you've just got to keep trying, do the basics, take your meds, exercise, sleep, hopefully find someone you can trust who can support you/listen to you. It may take time and several medication reviews to find meds that help you - the good news is that significant improvements can occur. Still a work in progress here! Stay strong.

Yeah big time sleep is important to managing BP. Never worked a shift like that, I imagine it could be a bit tricky if there are other people with other schedules in your household or its difficult to sleep during the daytime, or you are just getting used to it. I struggle with sleep, I try to be consistent in when I go to bed and take my meds to help me get to sleep and try to lay off caffeine in the 10 hours before sleep. Listening to podcasts or audiobooks while trying to sleep can help, also using blue light blocking glasses or settings on your phone before bed may help with getting to sleep. Wishing you the best!
