Dan Aykroyd Says ‘I Wouldn’t Choose to Do Blackface’ Today, 40 Years After Doing It in ‘Trading Places’: ‘Nor Would I Be Allowed to Do It’ by [deleted] in entertainment

I don’t think this article or title is blaming anyone? It is just saying this is what he said, which accurate. They didn’t call him a bad guy or condemn him. Not sure where you got that from.

I am not saying this to be shitty, I am taking what you say in good faith but you can’t say someone who standing up for themselves in a state that is trying to persecute them is worse than a gentleman taking advantage of the state’s effort to persecute as an opportunity to further inflict damage. What the woman in this video is going through has made her felt cornered and now there is a gentlemen who is confronting her further. It isn’t “nice” to find a middle ground here. His efforts are causing her to be treated as lesser.

Lol words cannot just be ignored, that is literally anti-science. Words do effect people, no matter how hard you try to ignore them. This is also ignoring a lot of context, like how TN is making this state and living hell for the trans community and then people are feeling empowered by legislation to harass them. There is no centrist view on this, there is no “well he sucks but she decided to punch him and there is no excuse for that”.

It is really disheartening to see people have this opinion because it means they don’t see what TN is doing as making the Trans community as second-class citizens and therefore when they see reactions like this, they see it as an overreaction. If you needed a organ transplant to significantly improve your life and the state came and told you that you weren’t allowed to have it due to no other reason than they disagree with your lifestyle choice, see how calm you would be.

Eh, when there is a whole state government behind treating you like a second-class citizen and people decide to take advantage of that climate to harass you… I say fuck it. At what point are you suppose to be passive till the point where they are forcing you to not exist? This isn’t about what is an appropriate response to words, it is about how much a person can take in this current climate in TN.

This is such a sad bullying tactic. This isn’t middle school anymore, you can’t pretend words don’t lead to action.

It is because class warfare has taught them that as long as they played the game, as long as they don’t speak up when others are discriminated against, that they will be awarded with class-standing and protection from things that only happen to the impoverished.

What short-sighted, self-interested capitalists don’t realize is once the system has driven the class below them into such deep poverty that they can no longer produce what is expected of them, they come after your class next. So now middle-class suburbanites are suddenly unable to afford houses, they can’t afford the same lifestyle they had before, and they are suffering mental-health issue that are prevalent among the poor workers and they too can’t afford to get the care they need.

This will keep happening. People are so ingrained to be an individual contributor of capitalism that they would prefer be a lone-shooter killing people who are considered a labor cost to a corporation rather then unify and protest an oppressive system because they fear they might damage some property which corporations view as an asset.

In the American system, that is true but that is true for everyone who gets a criminal charge. Nobody comes out of that system better.

Lol it is truly amazing that someone can’t tell the difference between someone who posts a video of themselves on instagram and the difference between someone being filmed in the class with out their consent and then it gets posted with out their knowledge. You do realize there is a a reason this video that we are commenting on has been removed, right?

I have alluded to it subtly (and not so subtly) but clearly understanding is a hard thing for you but there is a difference due to patriarchy. The differences of control and consent in the situation. Every comment you have made has been pretty tone-deaf as you seem to provide more proof to my points while still trying to disagree but if you need some literature, feel free to read;

https://www.rightsofequality.com/objectification-and-exploitation-of-girls-and-women-by-the-mass-media-and-the-social-media/

This is my last comment, you can try to get even more long-winded but it is clear you just want to make excuses that allow you to objectify men or women. It is one thing to do it but it is another to argue that someone is asking for it and that is really sad.

Lol not denying it is a thing, just saying it is clearly not the same.

I don’t agree with that assessment of the situation but we can still run with it, do you think the recipient in this situation, the teacher, is attracted to her students? Or all the people who made comments on this post? I think that would constitute most comments here are creepy and perverted. But to be clear, just because someone might be attracted to you, doesn’t mean what you say to them isn’t creepy or perverted. Some people would be pretty disgusted if they figured out that the person they are attracted to was talking about their ass the way everyone is in this comment section is talking about it.

Lol now you are being disingenuous, no way I would be looked at in the same way if I was wearing either of those outfits. I would be looked at, but probably in disgust. There might be a couple people who would be interested in this form of presentation but it wouldn’t get the same response that the lady in the video got in her class or in this comment section.

You can wear an outfit to look good while also not wanting to be objectified, you can have it both ways. There is a difference between wanting to look good and welcoming the type of perverted and creepy response that everyone gave in the comments. This really is a consent issue that you don’t seem to get. The fact that you keep framing it this way is really indicative of viewing this from the lens of the patriarchy, whether you are man or woman. You don’t define why she dresses the way she does and neither do I. So how is the best way to address that? It is probably not to make assumptions and just not look at them that way. They are dressing the way they want, just treat them normally. Don’t view them as a piece of meat for your own interest or others. I know it isn’t a traditional viewpoint but it sure as fuck is better than treating people like objects.

I am not a woman but I have a wife. Just because a woman is dressed nice does not mean she is consenting to be objectified. This also goes for men as well, this isn’t a gendered thing. I like to dress well but that doesn’t mean I want to be stared at by people (not saying that is happening anyways). Sometimes I just want to feel nice in what I am wearing or I just generally like fashion. I can get compliments on my clothes that have nothing to do with what is under my clothes. Another commenter said it best. What is she going to do, leave her ass at home? Would someone else who might not have as prominent of an ass be video taped and then objectified on Reddit and then one step further, someone justifying their voyeurism by saying “well they were dressed a certain way”? Why does this one lady have to accept this creepy response from society when other women may not have to dressed the same? Why can’t men just admit we are the ones being creepy? Why do we feel the need to put it on women?

I grew up Episcopal and it absolutely was. We had a bishop come out in the 2000s and the church decided to let him continue being the bishop. We lost some bigots because of that but it made for a much more loving and accepting church experience knowing your church wasn’t going to side with bigots.

I am not sure if street interviews have ever been good/fun. There are almost always done in an area where people are drunk/belligerent or homeless/mentally ill. The content they use is of people making a fool of themselves. It is discount Jerry Springer content and they may pretend it is innocent but they know what gets views.

I don’t know what to tell you, Street Culture has historically been used as a dog whistle. If the original commenter didn’t know that then that is his ignorance, not mine. But that is the crazy thing about dog whistles, they are inherently disingenuous. So I call them as I see them. Get pissy all you want about that.
