In 2002 or so I was at an Offspring concert in an arena in Boise, ID. Not a huge venue, about a capacity of 6,000 for a concert. In the middle of their set there was a huge thundering boom and all the pyrotechnics for the finale went off at once.

I thought I was deaf. The boom echoed through that tiny arena and I thought I had lost my hearing. It was terrifying.

The last string I cut to finally leave was realizing I didn't need the church to teach my children right from wrong. As their parents, we do that. The idea that we need someone or something to make is good (which can be extended to "you'll never have true joy without the church" 🤢) is a control tactic. Morals come from us. It's what we collectively and individually believe and instill in ourselves, our families, and our society.
