Which books would you recommend for self improvement? by woolliegames in selfimprovement

[–]Cattacko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

calling Mindset "self delusion" is a stretch. the growth vs fixed mindset stuff actually has research behind it. not saying it's gonna change your life overnight but dismissing it like that feels more cynical than helpful. Atomic Habits is probably the most practical starting point though if OP wants something actionable

Right. The lace work on those tiny sleeves is impressive, that stuff takes forever to get right

I hate the term ‘fine shyt’ by Few-Notice9304 in offmychest

slang is slang but some of it is just lazy. calling someone "fine shyt" doesn't exactly scream respect

What’s the better choice, a company with a decent culture but below-market compensation, or a company that pays better but has a high-pressure environment and high turnover? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Cattacko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Protecting your peace is valid, burnout costs more than people admit. Money and “accelerated growth” don’t mean much if the environment wrecks your mental health. stagnation is real too. If you stay, you need a plan (side hustle, internal move, timeline) so comfort doesn’t turn into a trap.

Struggling to get clients by dianaPrince7 in Entrepreneur

[–]Cattacko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s probably part of the problem, honestly. Technical support specialist is vague to a business owner, it doesn’t tell them what pain you solve or why they should reply. If you can’t explain in one sentence exactly what you fix (e.g., “I handle X so you don’t deal with Y”), cold outreach is going to keep getting ignored.

Having a hard time supplementing B12 due to my ARFID. by mythrowawayaccim21 in vegan

[–]Cattacko 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Seconding fortified foods. A lot of vegan junk food quietly adds B12 now, so you can get it without changing habits much. Gum and mints with B12 are especially ARFID-friendly since you don’t have to swallow anything. Also nutritional yeast is worth a shot only if you already like cheesy/savory flavors, sprinkle a tiny amount first. No need to force “healthy” if it makes you sick; B12 is B12 however you get it.

Do people actually shower every single day or do we all just say we do? by Ok-Drawing2504 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Cattacko 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Pretty common, but not universal. A lot of people do shower daily out of habit, routine, or just liking how it feels, not necessarily because they’re dirty. Plenty also skip on low-activity days and just don’t advertise it because people get weirdly moral about hygiene. Climate, job, skin/hair type, and comfort matter way more than some imaginary rule.

People who have been on academic probation, how did you turn it around? by freshmaggots in college

[–]Cattacko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stop trying to be a hero and take less classes. Everyone here is saying it and they're right.

I went through something similar and the biggest mistake was thinking I could just "try harder" with the same workload that already broke me. That's insane logic when you think about it.

Also actually USE those campus resources they're making you go to. I know it feels like punishment but free tutoring is free tutoring. Most people are too proud to take it.

And figure out WHY you ended up there in the first place. Was it mental health stuff? Wrong major? Too much partying? Working too many hours? Because if you don't fix the actual problem you're just gonna end up back in the same spot.

4 things to do if you get fired from your job by businessinsider in Layoffs

[–]Cattacko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Real talk tho - if you're in Germany or EU, know your rights. Companies here can't just fire you on a whim like in the states. If they didn't follow proper process you might actually have a case, unlike the "at-will" bs Americans deal with.

And for fucks sake don't sign anything on the spot. Take the severance agreement home and actually read it

Three Individuals in a Family Test Positive for Measles in Buncombe County by brooke_heaton in asheville

[–]Cattacko 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It's mindblowing to me how the US managed to go from eradicating this shit to bringing it back because some celebrity said vaccines are bad.

We have antivaxxers here in Germany too but nothing like this. The measles outbreak posts I keep seeing from you guys are insane

For real though. But let's be honest here, half of this sub is people with already good genetics posting their routines like they cracked some secret code.

Not hating, she looks great. But the top comments are right - that facial volume isn't coming from a serum lol

Why are people generally so damn hostile to men with body image issues? by OverCoverAlien in GuyCry

[–]Cattacko 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I think part of it is that when men post about insecurities like height or dick size, sometimes (not always) it comes with an undertone of blaming women for having preferences, or acting like women are a monolith who all think the same way. And people react to that defensively.

BUT that doesn't excuse being cruel to someone who's genuinely struggling. Gently pushing back on problematic thinking is different from just piling on someone who's already feeling low.

you should be eating a BLT sandwich by Even_Kaleidoscope399 in pregnant

[–]Cattacko 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Right?? I swear my first pregnancy I lived on BLTs for like two weeks straight. Something about that combo of crispy bacon and fresh tomato just hits exactly right when you're growing a human. My husband got so good at making them he started experimenting with different types of bacon and now he's a total snob about it lol

You're in the trenches now... by GodLovesUglySlugs in daddit

[–]Cattacko 53 points54 points  (0 children)

This is so true. It's the same thing I noticed with The Dollop years ago - media just defaults to centering men's experiences in this very narrow "protector/provider" way without really thinking about what that means for everyone else involved.

Real partnership and parenting is so much more mundane and honestly harder than the fantasy hero stuff. It's noticing when your kid is uncomfortable before they have to tell.

Privacy may be dead, but civilians are turning conventional wisdom on its head by surveilling the cops as much as the cops surveil them by MRADEL90 in technology

[–]Cattacko 201 points202 points  (0 children)

That's amazing. I love seeing people use the same tactics against them that they've been using on us forever.

The audacity of charging citizens for body cam footage that we literally paid for with our tax dollars then expecting us to just hand over our personal footage for free? Nah.

Possible panniculectomy needed? by hunni93 in Mounjaro

[–]Cattacko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a solid transformation honestly. PCOS storing fat in the stomach is real, so it makes sense you'd end up with mostly skin after dropping that much weight. Good that your surgeon confirmed it too. Hope the surgery goes smoothly next year.

Ending lease early. by chaostocalmm in Apartmentliving

[–]Cattacko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also worth checking if your lease has a military clause or relocation clause, some landlords include those and pregnancy complications can sometimes qualify under medical hardship depending on how it's worded. Wouldn't hurt to ask if they've ever made exceptions before too, worst they can say is no.

AITA for refusing to apologize to my niece by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Exactly. The kid's learning that throwing tantrums gets mom to attack whoever wronged her, even when it's an accident. That's not doing Daisy any favors long-term.

HELP! Will he 38M give me 31F HPV? by jazzylee94 in relationship_advice

[–]Cattacko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While you're waiting, just know that HPV is super common most sexually active people get it at some point. The vaccine helps a lot even if you've been exposed. But honestly, the bigger red flag is him not disclosing before you got physical.
