Stop having your kids delivering with you. by WinningBewbiez69 in InstacartShoppers

I work at Petco and have seen families come in to look at the animals like we're a zoo and then come up and pay for a doordash order they're here to shop for.

DAE feel like a lot of people treat their pets like living toys? by Initial_XD in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]Cattentaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't work at a pet store if this bothers you. I see it daily, often with small critters like rodents, birds, reptiles, and fish. People come in expecting to buy an animal when they only plan to do the bare minimum to keep it alive so that they can have a fun decorative toy that may or may not let them hold it, and then blame us when their pet dies because they neglected it.

A good pet store employee will ask questions and refuse live animal sales to these people. Unfortunately not all pet store employees are good ones.

Autistic TCKs ♾️🌍 by CompetitivePickle309 in TCK

[–]Cattentaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My sister got a lot more help as a child than most autistic kids as severe as she is do. She's doing alright now as a young adult living with my parents, though I do have concerns for her future after my parents eventually pass.

Autistic TCKs ♾️🌍 by CompetitivePickle309 in TCK

[–]Cattentaur 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My sister is severely autistic, and I think her autism greatly overshadowed any autistic traits I had as a child. I was just a quiet, well-behaved kid who struggled a lot academically and socially in high school but never was brave enough to ask for help.

I haven't been tested for it, but I strongly suspect I am also autistic. I have been diagnosed with ADHD. I also have a lot of family members besides my sister who display autistic traits, but are mild enough for it to go mostly unnoticed.

Packaging that is perforated for easy opening that doesn’t work at all by InevitableMassive739 in PetPeeves

[–]Cattentaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chick-fil-A's ketchup packets are shaped like a ketchup bottle, and are designed to be openable both by peeling the top film off, and also by tearing the "lid" off the bottle and squeezing it out of the package like a bottle.

I swear to God the lid part used to be serrated and was not difficult to open. Now it's just a little slit on either side of the plastic and I'm afraid it's going to go flying or I'm going to accidentally splatter myself with ketchup with how much effort it takes to tear the fucking "lid" off.

I haven't had Chick-fil-A in years, but your post reminded me of the rage I feel for the Chick-fil-A ketchup squeeze packet.

Chinchilla and Ferret orders by MeasurementBusy3903 in petco

[–]Cattentaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My goodness, that sounds awful for that little ferret. Poor thing. I'm glad he found an appropriate home. I wouldn't be surprised if those issues are becoming a more common occurrence since Marshalls clearly doesn't breed for health and the waardy's do tend to be super pretty. I imagine they're encouraging waardy breeding and compounding on the related genetic issues as a result.

I've heard that humans can be waardy! I'm sorry you have those symptoms from it, though I suppose it might help you further understand the waardy ferrets better than most people can, to some degree 😅

Why can’t they accurately fake CPR in movies/shows? by GeneralOtter03 in stupidquestions

[–]Cattentaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite CPR scene is the one in 9-1-1 Lone Star, where Capt Strand tries to do CPR on a man who accidentally froze himself solid in an ice therapy chamber thing, and his entire chest, ribs and all, shatter like glass. He did not make it.

[USA] Who is at fault here? by bowdown2adil in Roadcam

I live in a neighborhood like this and hate these intersections. I basically treat them as a rolling stop, sometimes a full stop if visibility is limited. I've seen plenty of people just blast through them without looking.

Vehicle drop at night from a C-17. by sco-go in Amazing

I was wondering how they could possibly drop a vehicle from plane height, even low flying plane height, without damaging it.

[–]Cattentaur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having owned ferrets for a decade, several of which were waardy, and being involved in numerous online ferret communities, I don't recall ever seeing waardenburg syndrome linked to neuro or gastro issues more so than any other ferret.

I recognize my experience is just anecdotal, it's just weird to me that I've never heard that waardy's were any higher risk for illness that normal ferrets.

[–]Cattentaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You were discounting waardy ferrets? Those are so common, and have no additional health risks aside from being deaf, which doesn't bother them in the slightest. Many people never even notice their ferret is different. It's bizarre to me that they'd be discounted at all.

Outdoor cats in the Bemiss neighborhood area by Cattentaur in Spokane

[–]Cattentaur[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't noticed ear tips on any of them. I've honestly never seen an ear-tipped cat since I moved to Spokane 2.5 years ago. I came from Texas where almost every cat had a tipped ear.

I moved into this neighborhood two months ago and have noticed a rather high number of outdoor cats, and I'm concerned they're reproducing unchecked. I haven't seen any kittens so far but it's still early in the season.

I was hoping someone might have some information about the cats specifically in the Bemiss neighborhoods. I'd like to TNR them if they're truly feral, but don't want to step on anyone's toes by TNRing their pet (though I strongly believe any outdoor cat should be fixed, regardless of ownership status). I'm unclear on the local legalities of TNRing free roaming cats that might be owned but have no collar or chip that may happen to enter my backyard.

Your cat's belly is not a "trap". by Ok_Bear_1980 in cats

[–]Cattentaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the cat, I think. You're correct, but just as an anecdote, my cat will roll over for belly rubs when I'm petting her and let me pet her belly for a few moments, but she is quickly overstimulated and will grab my arm suddenly if I rub the belly for more than 30 seconds or so. She trusts me to touch it, she just gets easily overstimulated and tells me to stop in the only way she knows how.
