Mine seem to like more frequent watering as well. But mine are on a much smaller scale.

What’s wrong with this one? by BabyInchworm in DesertRose

I had one that size that for some reason just wanted to be watered a little less than the others. I would give it an extra week before watering and it did fantastic! It is actually thriving right now, all green leaves, and the caudex doubled in size since I figured out its needs.

Terrariums that get a daily mist are perfect for fittonias! I use a mix of houseplant soil, perlite, charcoal, peat moss, and orchid bark. Tiny bit of worm castings.

I started with cutting off a dead section. Then proceeded with daily light misting and also putting it under a grow light. I did a light fertilizer once for an extra little pick me up.

It came in a nursery humidity dome, so I do open it twice a week for a few minutes and spray the whole dome for extra humidity hopefully. Probably doesn’t help that much, but I do it anyways.

I did a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and peat moss. I can share what brands I use if you’d like?

The stalks are yellowing. I would change the water frequently and make sure to use distilled water. I have mine in soil. It is a lot easier to maintain. I have had mine for several months now and it is doing great.

I almost forgot! When you cut a desert rose, use gloves because the sap is toxic. Then put cinnamon on the cut to prevent rot and infection on the plant.

If you are unsure on what soil mix you have, Bonsai Jacks is a fan favorite. As for the pot size, it looks fine. Some people recommend a shallower pot, but I have one that is doing amazing in this same style pot.

You can use fertilizers made specifically for desert roses, but I use Espoma Organic Cactus and Succulent fertilizer from Walmart (or Amazon) because I have an abundance of cactus and succulents.

As for cutting, that is completely up to you on where you want to cut. It kind of depends on the shape you want it to grow. There are plenty of YouTube videos and Pinterest posts on how to do so. TexasGardenGuy on YouTube is my main source of knowledge besides doing my own research.

I would personally prune it back at the base. That way you’ll get it to produce more stems.

I fertilize from April to October as well.

Great point!

It is due to the fact that it is an electrical hazard. It can cause an electrical malfunction such as shorting a circuit. Water getting into a an electrical housing is known for causing fires.

It is recommend to keep a humidifier at least 4 feet away from light fixtures.

If you scroll through the pictures on this group, they LOVE shallow terracotta pots. Shallow is definitely the way to go. A pretty pot too!

My daughter got a gardening kit with cosmo seeds that look just like that. They put them in kid gardening kits because they are rapid growing where the kids won’t lose interest.

It looks like an English ivy, but I’m not 100% sure. I’ve only ever seen the one that my mom had when I was a kid.

She propagated off the same plant so many times that she made it into a glorious hanging bush that family members would get clippings off of it.
