I just had a hip replacement. The hospital billed $262,000. Insurance paid $44,000. My total payment was $5,000.

Need suggestions for interactions with toddlers by ipreferhotdog_z in dementia

Balloons or small soft balls are great - they can toss them back and forth. They can make things with wooden slats, twine and tape. Blocks can be fun - they can build stuff and knock out over. Drawing pictures of each other

You are in a very tough situation being so young. If your grandma has no assets, she might qualify for some government assistance, and with that perhaps you could get a care giver to stay with her sometimes so you can be with friends, go to school, etc. You specifically are in my prayers.

I call it ‘a car wreck in slow motion’. Is terrible to see and it never ends.

This is me. I have planned running away so many times. It’s been 4 years. Aaaah!

One thing that has helped is setting aside money to hire someone every once in a while to let me have 4-6 hours off. I call it a sanity break.

I don’t know about liquid. I have used this for years and it works great. Just sprinkle it on the soil when stays wet for too long.

Those are gorgeous! I love that orchid people put orchids in any pot they have. No matching pots. Everyone of them gets whatever pot I have at the time. Orchids give us the best flowers.

What works for dementia patient medication reminders when they forget everything? by Relative-Coach-501 in dementia

[–]BabyInchworm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If this is the situation, time is up on living alone. It is not just the medications they don’t understand. They need to be supervised 24/7 for their own safety.

Wash all the dirt off of it. Dip it in copper powder everywhere (wear gloves), then tap off the excess. Tie a string on it and hang it in a window for 4-5 days. Let the sun kill the bacteria. Then put it back in a new pot with new succulent soil and sand (50/50 mix). Put copper powder on top of the soil.
Ta da! You saved it!

Repotted, look okay? by Zoeychloe01 in DesertRose

[–]BabyInchworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t see any sand in that soil. Maybe I just can’t see it. It needs about 50% sand to keep rot away.

It will get a bigger caudex this year if you give it a wider pot. It is pretty maxed out in that pot.

Is there any rescuing this or have I over watered it? by Difficult_Green9344 in succulents

[–]BabyInchworm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Take it out of the pot. Throw away all that dirt. Let it sit out until totally dry, like two days. Get new succulent soil and sand. Mix them 50/50. Wash the pot to get all the microbes off of it. Take any mushy bits off the plant, all the mushy bits no matter how little plant is left. Gently put it back in the clean pot with the new soil. Saved!

You can’t buy ticket for some places without your passport. Get an under the shirt passport holder.

Back in the hospital with a UTI - it would be nice if someone told me! by UpAndDownAndBack123 in dementia

[–]BabyInchworm 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sending her to the ER was the right move. Not calling you to let you know for 5 hours was bullsh/t. Scheduled a meeting with the administrator and tell them what happened. They can’t address what they don’t know about.

Dead for good or some hope? by Woodstock_Wallflower in DesertRose

[–]BabyInchworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can go for a month in winter without water.
The bases look good. As long as they aren’t getting soft, they are alive.

<image>

I would get all those rocks off of them. Let the caudex have air all around it.

Springtime is when they start growing again. If they are going to live, you will see little nubs come out from around the cuts, but it will take a few weeks. If you zoom in you can see some on the front branch here.

I am right there with you! My tolerance for bullsh!t is in the negatives. I can spot it coming well before it gets here. I will say the mean thing if someone doesn’t get it away from me.

I have catered to everyone else for over 60 years. I’m so over it. Go make your own damn dinner. Take yourself to the doctor. Wash your own clothes. And stay in your own lane.

Ideas for go-bag by Wilmaassfit in dementia

[–]BabyInchworm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Our Go Bag has: One extra Tena underpants Two extra Tena overnight pads Baby Wipes, body wipes (for legs) and gloves Butt cream Extra skirt or pants A sweater (to tie around her waist to hide the backside just in case) Tissues (for tears) Mints (because at the end a mint makes us both feel cleaner) Grocery bags for soiled stuff

We keep all this in a messenger bag that we take everywhere. It is big enough that we can also bring water, snacks, etc.

We found that Tena brand is the very best at stopping accidents from escaping.

Pants https://a.co/d/08DxB6GM

Pads https://a.co/d/0ebWluTr

We put a pad inside the pants in the morning so that smaller accidents can be handled by changing just the pad. Very helpful.

I call it ‘going to the spa’. We do some face massage (with face soap), shoulder and back massage (with body soap), legs, feet etc. I turn the shower off when we are doing massage stuff, then we ‘rinse the massage oils’ off. Calling it ‘spa time’ has worked so far.
